But they do have Vicfires which is pretty much dispatch

Yeah up until recently, the state of Victoria had two dispatch centers for the entire state (6.5 million people). The one for central Melbourne (the capital and largest city) and Geelong (the second largest city) was Telleho. The rest of the state were served by VicFire. However, I think this may have changed in the last few months because Country Fire Authority have just lost all their career fire fighters (they joined a new service called Fire Rescue Victoria).

@Bryce VicFire has now become Firecom and both CFA and FRV operate using Firecom and, although separate organisations, work closely together such as if a CFA station is closer to a fire, along with some FRV appliances, they will turn out

@@vincentweatherly9991 thanks for the update. Interesting to know that both agencies use the same dispatch system. It makes more sense and will allow for better interoperability.

How ridiculously political that the volunteers run the rescue appliance!!! The district needs an OM with balls!

Approx 26 is more than a handful of CFA rescue stations. You are correct most are run by volunteers - that is a no brainer given the staff to volunteer station ratio! However, it is political when you have a career station in the same town that can get the rescue out the door much quicker with a guaranteed crew 24/7 - and don't give me any crap about vol stations being able to guarantee crews! It is also the same story at Hoppers Crossing/Werribee.

I agree on - if the response times are kept up there is no issue - I just hope those response times are being reviewed continually and not fudged. As for Werribee - are you sure that you want to impart that kind of information publicly?? There are no fully volunteer stations that would have Municipal certificate of occupancy issued, which makes it illegal for anyone to "live" there as in the case of a staffed 24/7 station. I am sure that Wyndham City Council, CFA, the UFU and centrelink would probably be very interested in this. Centrelink as some of them are probably on the rock and roll - yet fully fit and able to respond a fire truck, just not work for a living.
You need to remember what volunteers were intended for in CFA - and that is not to provide an illegal 24/7 presence on a station, which you have to admit is only to stop staff getting their hands on the rescue.

@@harryhighpants5789 most stations that have occupancy are maned by paid firefighters(roughly 5 per shift)

    • @harryhighpants5789

I'm not sure you understand what is being discussed there - and it is 3 or 4 per shift per primary appliance. The occupancy I refer to is the classification of a station as a liveable building, which Werribee is not.
