You two did an amazing job sharing the beauty of this National Park. I love the way you produce your videos. The planning, filming and narration are great! My wife and I visited and tent camped at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Early June of 2000. It is an amazing National Park. We did not do the extreme hiking that you did, but we did enjoy many of the overlooks along the south rim and did some mild hiking.

Thank you so much Alan, that means a lot! We are so glad you've gotten to experience the park. There are so many amazing overlooks and milder hikes to do there!

Wow, wow, and WOW! This was intense and freaking awesome!!!! That hike to the bottom looked pretty crazy and I know the camera doesn’t do it justice. This is a part of Colorado I’ve never been to but it’s on my list now! I just can’t get over how awesome it looks! You guys are awesome and my heart jumped when I saw the notification for this vlog while I was drinking my coffee this morning! 😍😁😊🥾🇺🇸😆🤩😲

I can’t believe how much busier it is there! It was only about 5 years ago the most recent time I did the Gunnison route and we just showed up late morning on a weekend, got a permit, and were the only 4 people there. Good to know that it now requires more planning to get a permit.

It's pretty crazy! We read a blog from last summer that said to show up 1-1.5 hours before they start handing them out. We likely wouldn't have gotten one had we done that. The parks are all so busy this summer! We hear it's not as bad in the off season though.

I really really love your vlog. I spent the good portion of the holiday binging on your vlog. There's something so relatable and down to earth with both of you. You travel a lot which is such a privilege but i never felt that you were humble bragging or rubbing it into my face what a great life you're having compared to mine. Haha. Just got back from our 7-day trip to CO and Black Canyon NP, imo is way underrated for being the least visited park. This was actually my favorite park. Did the Oak Flat Loop Trail and that was a perfect for us. Nothing extreme like the trail you did 😅. Thanks for sharing.

One of the pictures at the beginning, after the 2 guys using the drill. The shot of the dirt road with a trail going off to the right. It's an old stagecoach road. In spots it's rough. I use to camp 3 miles back in off the dirt road. It is beautiful in there.

Been to that park. No, not the Grand Canyon but awesome in its own way. Must see. So, Kona is my favorite dog behind my own shadow. I love Kona. My Shadow is a Standard Poddle, and we have paddle boarded, kayaked and hiked all over the Sierra. Poodles are not fragile as I suspect most suspect. Kona is a wonderful doggie I love how you show her on your adventures and cater to her as well. That alone makes me watch. I love the upbeat feel of your presentations. After I watch your vids, I have trouble letting down. They are so uplifting. Don't much care about the dissecting of the food items but just jump through those. Clearly, many like so good you do, and I understand.

When I used to go to that south rim trail there were no more than 3 visitors to the bottom per Year. There were no chains, no markers, no cell phones, no gps, and they would only come looking for you if you didn't sign out after a week. You also had to sign a disclaimer that you are hiking it at your own risk. Every time I hiked to the bottom I spent no less than 3 days. I was caught in the middle of a running herd of big horn sheep a couple times. If you haven't spent a few days there in a row you are really missing out.

When I hear "trail" and "chain", I think "Angel of Death Landing" in Zion. I was proud of myself when I accompanied my wife up Wall Street in Bryce Canyon. That, like Teotihuacan's Pyramid of the Sun, was steep enough. But your hike in Gunnison? The sign to the trail should have read:
    PERMIT REQUIRED. ("Check.")
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST ______ THIS TALL FOR THIS RIDE. ("Check. Barely, but check.")
RANGERS MIGHT INSIST ON PROOF YOU ARE AT LEAST PART MOUNTAIN GOAT OR IBEX. ("Ah, fuuuuuuuudge." [Ralphie.] "Adam, can you go back to the van and get our birth certificates?")
    TIGHT HAMSTRINGS NOT ALLOWED. ("Check.")
It is always fun to stick your bare feet in a cold river. We did so in the Colorado at Lee's Ferry, Arizona. Less rewarding; no hike required! But niiiiiiice.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK

For those less adventurous, you can drive down a paved road to the bottom of the canyon where there is also a tent oriented campground in about ten minutes. Alternatively, you can sea kayak or canoe in either the Morrow Point or Crystal Reservoirs and get to really experience the Black Canyon. Ask me how I know . . .

Even though you can tell this was hard, I'm sure it was 10x harder than you make it look! You don't use poles, is that because of all of your equipment? Also, I didn't see the InReach on your pack, have you changed devices? I used all of your Utah NP videos to plan my 5 day journey to hike the Mighty 5, 2 of those days were in Zion. You made those hikes look so easy and they were soooo hard! Your vlogs are exceptional, I wish you were going to Acadia NP before I go there in Oct but I'll enjoy your report whenever it happens. I'll be at Pikes Peak next month for their half marathon ascent. Happy travels!

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Paula! It was super hard! And we aren't fans of poles to be honest. We have tried them before, but don't really find them helpful for us, although we know others do! And I know we had the inReach with us that day (we texted my mom when we got to the bottom from it), so it must have been hiding in the video. We love the inReach! When in October will you be visiting Acadia? We plan to visit this fall, but with our videos typically being delayed, it may not come out before your trip unfortunately. 😔

First of all - Great video, Thx. During a solo road-trip i 2018, I visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, and to be honest - I didn't dare the Gunnison route alone. But as I wanted to see and feel the river up close, I drove down the East Portal Road - which really can be recommended if you for some reason don't have the ability to hike down the steep route. Thanks again for some great vlogs. Best wished for your continous adventures :-)

If you just plan to do the South Rim, one day is totally doable! The overlooks are all pretty quick, but we HIGHLY recommend doing an inner canyon route if possible. If you decide to do that, you'd technically need 1.5 days, so you can go the day before in the afternoon to get a permit, spend the next morning doing the route, then explore some of the south rim viewpoints. The North Rim takes less time, so you'd only really need a half day or so, but it does take a while to get to.
