    Wow! Thank you for analysing my race!
    As you’ve mentioned, I’m riding for a continental team, so you can’t demand too much. The staff and everyone around are doing their best and of course it would be much better with a fan and cooling-vest. We didn’t have that - but I was using ice on the warm up;) Even though I got overheated, so you’re analysing is pretty spot on!
    This race wasn’t very prioritised, so that’s the reason why I’m not 100% prepared - but I was definitely leaning a lot!
    Ps: I was ordering salad because I was sick of rice and chicken after 2 weeks on the road with racing:D Was of course carbo loading in the evening that day as well;)
    GG!

      If resources are an issue simply use a fan or as Jesse said just ride around during your warm-up. Ice vests and other conductive cooling methods have limited utility and are resource-limited. A good quality fan you can take around in the team van would be the way to go in your circumstances.

    GG is “Good Game” just something fun he has said since the beginning of his YT journey, this is often used in the Gamer Community. Things are either GG when things go well, or Not GG when things don’t go well.

    I have been following @cedrikbakkechristophersen for a while now, and it great to see his training and racing. He obviously has a big engine and hopefully will progress into the WT at some point. As always a great analysing insight into a race, nice to listen to Jesse, someone who actually know what he is talking about.

    I'm done doing hard warm ups. For cyclocross i use to do the standard 20 minute warm up on the trainer. Even in the middle of winter you can overheat. And see others burning themselves up on trainers without fans. I just noodle a bit or do a recon lap of the course.

    Hey Jesse, what do you think about training in high heat environments, i.e. zwift with no fan, absolutely cooking? I see there is a body of literature that says it's very effective, having a similar effect to altitude training, but obviously a very different mechanism. I imagine two otherwise identical zwift sessions at zone 2, where one is normal temp VS the other at high temp would have a different kind of training stimulus.

    • @lorenzfrass9499
      @lorenzfrass9499 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty sure jesse did a heat acclimation protocol himself before nationals so yeah he must thinks it works. The zone 2 ride in the heat just has the additional stimulus of increasing plasma volume I guess? And maybe also higher load on the heart because heart rate is higher. And more stress for your body in general so it lets you do less of your normal work/training to a degree which is why you wouldnt do this stuff all the time but only before an important event. Also because the benefits taper off rather quickly when you stop doing the heat training completely.
      Btw not having the fan on on a zone 2 ride might not be enough of a heat stimulus. Maybe try some thermal baselayer in addition or being in a hot room. If your heart rate is elevated 20-30ish beats over where it usually is during a zone 2 ride half an hour or an hour in then you are doing it right.
      My sort of heat protocol would be when i had an interval day on the trainer as soon as I finished the last interval I would switch off the fan and put on a long sleeve jersey and maybe even a warm baselayer and then ride for an hour at zone 2. Worked pretty well.

      I chatted about this is one of the first videos I uploaded on YT: th-cam.com/video/rXXfejNdf-4/w-d-xo.html
      There's benefit to active heat sessions. But it needs to be hotter than just riding on Zwift without a fan and done in a block of 2-3 weeks with multiple exposures per week to get the benefits, not just randomly riding on Zwift without a fan once or twice a week. It can increase hemoglobin mass but unlikely to match what you can get from living at altitude

    • @LindseyH24
      @LindseyH24 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At-home cycling indoors without a fan simply hasn't been studied properly to answer this question. Most of the research on heat acclimation protocols is in laboratories with high ambient temperatures and relative humidities as we know. The main requirements for heat acclimation/adaptation are maintaining a core body temperature of at least 38.5 degrees (higher is not necessarily better as it can delay adaptation and recovery from the heat stimulus) for 60-90 minutes and maintaining a high sweat rate on at least 5 consecutive days (the longer the better to an extent - 5 days/week up to 4 weeks has shown awesome results for example). This could be done without a fan indoors but it would be super uncomfortable and because we don't have the core body temperature data on this sort of thing safety would be a concern to recommend people do something like that at home without supervision.

    • @LindseyH24

      It's not necessarily aero vs climbing, it's climbing versus flat (+ aero position). There's a bit of research out there showing an increase in power capabilities on inclines/hills versus the flat, mainly due to biomechanical and muscle recruitment factors. Wahoo Sports Science will publish some of this research soon I believe.

      That carb target for carb loading is total for the day, not on top of other food. And it doesn't need to be pasta, could add in sugary drinks like fruit juice, candy/lollies, cereals, etc to get there without the bulk
