Wood turning - The Dragonfly Wood & Resin Art

- In this woodturning project I embed a dead Dragonfly into resin set on a horse chestnut burr/burl. On return from a holiday several years ago, we sadly found a dead dragonfly in our house. I placed it into a plastic box where it slowly dried. I am aware that any tiny amounts of body fluid will cause real problems with the resin and can cause fractures. This Dragonfly was so dry that I hoped it would be OK.
Despite sealing the burr some air bubbles escaped during the curing process and the delicate mesh wings captured a few of these. I had a change of plan after using the gold spray. The wings needed a white backdrop or they became invisible.
I hope you enjoyed this one - thanks for watching
Best wishes - Jim

Thanks and welcome👍
Brilliantly conceived, executed and video edited! Finally a turner who knows how to direct from start to completion! Dragonflies and Burls are two of my favorite things!
I'm so glad I found you this morn and subscribed! I'll keep checking in.
Question: your lathe; make and model(not that I don't love my Vicmarc)? It seems a top tier machine!
Thanks a lot 👍 My lathe is an Axminster AT406WL, It gives me ability to turn about 16” over the bed, but with the moveable headstock I can go up to 38”! Thanks again for your lovely comments. Best wishes - Jim
Stunning Jim! Where DO you get these incredible ideas from???!!!!!
