  • Full of natural voids, stress cracks, and unstable features, this olive burl was always going to explode, but I was determined to try and complete this project without the use of resin. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only way to salvage this piece in the end.
Please let me know what you think of this project by leaving a comment below! I cannot always respond to every comment, but I make time to read each one. I always appreciate feedback, positive or negative.

If it were me turning the bowl, the pieces would have ended up in file 13 or the fire wood pile. But you, took a bowl full of lemons and turned it into lemonade. You came up with a very ingenious way to save the turning. This is why I think you are becoming one of the best wood turners in TH-cam. Outstanding save! Very glad that you were not hurt when it let go. My father made beautiful turnings as well. Some made it into museums and given as prestigious gifts to "VIP's". Beautiful work!

I TRULY appreciate how you persevered in the face of adversity. This came out Magnificent and Stronger. The dark Smoky color contrast pairs well with the natural grain look. Excellent Workmanship.✨🌤️

There is a reason you bounced back from your tree stand fall so well. Resiliency. Demonstrated in this project. I have seen some pretty fascinating repairs, before. This is now the best and biggest I've ever seen. Well done, David!

Awesome job! I call this the Prodigal Olive Bowl, because it was once lost and given up on but later returned in better shape than it originally was. Black was the perfect resin to match the color of that burl, I really enjoyed this.

I can only agree with everyone else in thinking that the bowl is simply stunning. I also noted in the video when you were covered in resin threads. What a great look for Halloween!

This masterpiece would not have existed if it weren’t for its earlier disaster.

That piece is absolutely gorgeous, I'm so happy you were able to bring it back. My heart sank when it exploded on the lathe. Awesome work. That is so beautiful
