    This video is very telling about the way those cars were, especially in the graphic. As a sim Racer I have raced this car a lot in asseto corsa, it's one of my favourites. It's an animal to tame especially on the brakes. But every video I watch about braking techniques bang on about trail braking and getting to 100% trailing off the pressure through the corner, to the apex, but when you try in something like this it's nearly impossible, but no one explains pre abs cars and how they react, because he's not braking late at 100% he's braking earlier and at 50 to 60 % pressure and then feeding the power through the corner before the apex.

      MikeVonDoom It wouldn't go that fast at Spa. In fact, it didn't go that fast anywhere. In qualifying for the 1989 Le Mans 24 Hours, the Sauber driven by Kenny Acheson, was measured at 400 km/h (about 248 mph). The other Saubers were doing 385 - 390 km/h. Acheson did not get pole position this way so even with the 5.8 km straight, that top speed actually resulted in a _slower_ lap time than the car of Schlesser. The gearing for Spa would be completely different and I doubt it more than 320 km/h is possible.

    Actually you're wrong current F1 cars have probably the highest drag of any racing cars on earth, and with banned blown diffuser, active suspension, double diffuser, fan cars, ground effect etc the only downforce they can get is from the wings and the shape of the cars itself and the drag to downforce efficiency is poor, just look at Monza this year they can barely reach 320kph sometimes on the home straight and that's the lowest for a long long time.

Straight line speed is not that important at Spa, except up the hill on the Kemmel straight and that is not long enough for this car to get to 400 km/h. It might get to 300, maybe 310. • @thethirdman225
      @thethirdman225 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Group C cars were not made for massive power outputs. It was a fuel allocation - i.e.: _fuel economy_ formula. Rumours of 1,000 hp are everywhere but they are mostly exaggeration. This car put out about 720-730 hp on 1.9 bar boost.

    • @SMSinger91
      @SMSinger91 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thethirdman225 they're not an exaggeration, but rather what power output they could achieve in qualifying trim. It was not uncommon for teams to crank up the boost to the absolute maximum for a few laps in qualifying to maximise top speed on the straights to try and edge out a laptime. In race configuration the 1000hp setting would chew through too much fuel and screw up their pit strategy, not to mention the reduced reliability of the engine from the added stress.

    What sort of power is it running? because if you look on the speed then even the current F1 cars are quicker on the straights with 700hp

    • @thethirdman225
      @thethirdman225 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. The C11's predecessor, the Sauber C9, once hit 400 km/h. No F1 car has ever gone that fast in race trim. These cars have between 700 and 800 hp, depending on boost. The big thing is torque and the Sauber's torque was its best feature.

      @@thethirdman225 Their advantage was that the downforce was stable ) Front and rear ) Second was that their fuel consumption was lower than the others due to that they are running low boost on this engine. Third was that the drivability of the engine was superior to the others. The tourqe cuve is flat from 3-7000 rpm.. Therefore they only needed a 5 speed gearbox
