He was what, 24 or 25 here and ALREADY knew how to work the crowd into a FUNKY MESS!! Don't care what anybody says, greatest composer, arranger, producer, engineer, performer to ever do it!!! Even running around in his drawers!!! This was Wendy's first performance? Thank you VimanaRama!!
Yes that was Wendy Melvoins first live. She did sing on Free(1999) and Irresistible Bitch(Lets Pretend We're Married -B side) she would play guitar for soundchecks for the 1999 tour when Dez Dickerson wasn't there.
Me too agree!!! Unbelievable talent!! My little sexy giant of a man!!! 🥰🥰😥😥🙏🙏 RIP Prince you are most definitely missed...of course Michael Jackson too 💜💞💞
This cat PRINCE was a daring trendsetter that was ahead of his time! He brought a different element to the funk! That outfit with the fedora, trench coat, bikini briefs, legwarmers, and platforms is just too much! He gave the funk a freaky new-wave element. Big props to THE REVOLUTION for a great performance and laying down the nastiness. Wendy Melvoin showed some mad skills on guitar! It's not often that you're going to see a female keeping a funky riff locked tight in the pocket!
Prince did exude much love and grace over his lifetime, bridging cultures and bringing people together, but systematic racism being a part of life here in America is no lie.
@@6886stevieThank you!!….even Prince knew that, if you knew anything about him you would know at times he spoke about this exact thing….he was unstoppable, and a great musician.
@6886stevie There are racist people but not systemic racism. However it seems that the media and the far left want to divide us. Don't let them. Peace and be wild 😜
What ever you say about the Revolution, they were pure mechanical cold funk. His later bands were maybe more flexible but, the Revolution suited his music from this era. Dam cold
The best of the best! Amazing that Wendy was only 18 here, and they were all so young. The whole show was so good. Prince's best band for sure, and they backed the best, most adorable performer 💜
Wow Dr. Fink really played the opening lines to Prince's sexy dancer piano solo at 5:45 that's so crazy to me. I know that solo front and back. Prince really made sure that the people who he played with were the best at being themselves and could also sound just like him when they needed to. Beautiful!
I agree! He's the whole package! ❤ love him, fan for life. American Bandstand, debut performance ( I Wanna Be Your Lover) I got hooked in 79 and I was 15 now 57.
Whoa this took me way back to 80s Prince performing in his undies! LOL he was very daring and very courageous, lawdy! Go Prince & Revolution! Loving this
And what a sense of humor in addition to all he was able to do... he always made me laugh with his on stage antics aka theater, show, entertainment... the best on so many levels...
MusicIsMyChurch Oh no. This is tame. You haven't seen anything until you see his old Dirty Mind shows live. Pure fire. Sexy, raw & wild. One of these days, I will get them converted, but I'm kind of enamored with the imperfect VHS versions.
Yes it is-- I was there! Hotter than blazes and only time the 3rd verse to PR was performed. Crowd reaction to the new music was surreal and little did any of us know what was up with the sound truck outside. Oh yeah, and Wendy in white w/those hi-tops (yowzah)
I still have a hard time choosing which of his albums I like more so I say 1999,PR, and SOTTs are 1ab,c and then ATWIAD and Emancipation are 2ab then everything else falls into place after that!!!
Everybody (everybody) loosen up Shake it like you just don't care (shake it like you just don't care) Never mind your friends, girl it ain't no sin To strip right down to your underwear...

Wendy probably didn’t realize what she was taking on by getting into this band with PRINCE. Best thing that ever happened to her, right? She did a great job .... can you imagine what must’ve been going through her mind?! I would love to hear her take on all that went on in the early days. They were all so young and cutting edge. They didn’t even realize how HUGE this night was going to be and that we’d all still be watching it years & years later. Just incredible entertainers. Prince and his music will live on forever. Also, this is probably why they all wanted to call Prince gay at the start of his career because he said Brownmark was a “little cutie”...( not that Prince cared). RIP 💜💕💜💕💜💕
The (maybe only time) a hat look appeared -- too close-looking to Michael Jackson, no mo'. Give me some horns, but synthesized on a keyboard: one of the defining things of The Minneapolis Sound (which is really just The Prince Sound.) "White people clap on the 4!" -- and First Ave. is almost all white. haha!
@@davidzwack1308 Go ask Prince, I'm quoting him and the band: "White people clap your hands on the four, now", a line he used for live playing of this song. Here at 3:22.
Asside from peerless musicianship, that #BlackThong separated him from the herd, putting in front row of a class by himself which he never shared with anyone; even in death. Amazing it wasn’t BIKEJockstrap (butt that was probably just too vanilla/white).
In my opinion, Prince was the best live performer, no one came close. Does anyone else agree?
I do. hands down
@@Suunder Me too
There’s this guy named Michael Jackson
I don't know but there was a guy named Elvis.
Although I am a Michael Jackson fan too ❤❤
Stocking, high heels, underwear and still the hottest dude in the house.

Sandra Smith you can't help but stare, he had so much talent and stage presence. I still can't believe he's gone. So glad we still have the music!
Amen Brother.

He started when he was about 17-18 and 1999 came out in 1982 so he’s probably about 21-22
He passed six years ago today. Luckily his music never does. Best musician ever.
Need to release this gig, this is the holy grail of performances of Prince! Good Gwaad! The funkiest man you've ever seen!
It’s definitely MY holy grail!! 💜

Wendy was killing it at her first show!
@Eoghan Are you saying her guitar was out of tune? Sounds fine to me.

The coldest man the god of music ever produced. PRINCE
Coolest guy. Trendy. Funky. I love Prince's hair style here....but then I love all his styles. He was brave to wear those knickers. Love him 🥰
If you find yourself ever slipping into the American systemic racism lie....just think of all the love and grace that was Prince.
Prince did exude much love and grace over his lifetime, bridging cultures and bringing people together, but systematic racism being a part of life here in America is no lie.
Systemic racism is absolutely a thing. It's just very silent.

RUDE BOY at his Finest! 💜
Prince just has some much God Given Talent, and he shared it with everybody. Total ICON 😊
The last time people could see him before he became a huge star…people in the audience don’t understand what they are witnessing

I think Charlie Chaplin too

This was when Prince didn't change the lyrics to the song ...he changed the lyrics to the song around early 2000
and he stopped performing a lot of his songs.
LOL I love the way he finally flipped his hand and stomped off the stage LOL Love Prince & the Revolution
