Priority is for nation and not for player. Even kapil dev also said it

And also 175 ball 36 runs he scored in 1975 world cup match. He should put to rest why he played that kind of innings

I agree. This has to be put to rest. I can see no reason behind this except he wanted to show one upmanship above captain Venkat. As a Gavaskar fan, this troubles me the most as the other two occasions mentioned in the talk,I was moved by emotion to support those decisions incorrectly as well.

Mr Sunil Gavaskar.. it's absolutely unbelievable on the issue of dropping Kapil Dev. If Kapil Dev is a match winner on your views, why didn't u oppose to the decision of selctors and demanded Kapil to be included ?? We are certain that selectors can't go against the captain, that too when Captain wanted Kapil Dev, the match winner !! Pls don't try to justify your dirty politics after 40 years. and we are not fools to believe your lies !!

As someone who followed the Indian team quite passionately in those days esp the 70's and 80's, Kapil Dev was a match winner & a 100% team man and to drop him for the Calcutta Test is unjustified whoever was responsible. Sunil Gavaskar states here that he was not responsible for this. Even if he was not, should he have not stood up for Kapil (who was at the peak of his career) and said if he's not playing then I'm not or resigned his captaincy ? The fact remains that he din't oppose the dropping of Kapil Dev who was replaced by I think Manoj Prabakar for Calcutta Test. There are some interesting comments below & I leave it to viewer discretion to decide for yourselves.

Actually at that time selection of the players for india wasn't easy if you commit one sily mistake that might ruin your career as a player that's what happens to the player at that era whereas if we talk about todays generation because of IPL,if players fail to score runs in big matches they wouldn't dropped and get more chances in the team for playing Bilateral series and world cup that is the big difference, the temperament of the players of that era and players of todays generation is different totally different 💯💪🏻

With GREAT respect to Sunil i am questioning the decision to leave ground with Chetan
Cursing and using foul language is routine....

It was a routine for Aussies not Indians you blame or praise his action but truth is that the team got united for self respect and defeated strong Australian team by getting them allout for 83

Sunil gavaskar said that he did not propose for his axeing but you did not support kapil that time either. You just kept quiet which is not the thing expected from a man with such oratory skillsets.

Kapil played an irresponsible shot and It proved to the turning point. So Gavaskar was Right in not supporting Kapil

Kapil played an irresponsible shot in previous match and India lost the match from a comfortable position. So Gavaskar instead of not supporting shud have actively dropped Kapil

The only Indian cricketer I know who retired with his head held high. Rest all were either playing for their records or money, including the greats of Kapil and Sachin when the world actually wanted them to retire and let fresh air in.

@@defierdarer3289 I had watched Kapil playing right from his first match in Pakistan to his last match. Kapil's bowling pace dipped during the end of his career but his batting was doing good, you can check the record !! India can't produce an another all-rounder like Kapil for the next 5 decades atleast. People who watched him playing know how much he had contributed in all the matches he played. This is not ur mohalla gossip that can be shared with world. Selection decisions have some rules of confidentiality. Even now inspite of so much coverage, we dont know who gets dropped or selected. But true sportsmen dont share closed door decisions.

@@rajanireddy5271 True, he was also better fielder than all other 3 and the unbelievable thing was his fitness, being an all rounder he never got injured and the best striking rate at that time . We know how many times Tendulkar got injured and take rest.
And also for all the other 3 all rounders they had equally good fast bowlers in their team, here Kapil was alone in the dead pitches . But as a sport lover, Imran, Hadlee and Botham are incredible players and we are fortunate to saw these greats
