I just bought one December 2021. In only 10 days its become my go to everyday camera. I work within its few limitations and am glad I bought it. Great video.
Simple answer - absolutely yes. I never used to take pics or videos. This camera is soo good and rewarding, that I take footage every single day as it is always with me - it is just FUN 😀

100% truth. I recently retired and am traveling for an extended time and find myself NOT bringing out my big mirrorless system. Love my kit but find myself using my phone more often. I will be purchasing an RX-100 Vii

I have this camera and am new to it. I noticed the focal length is 9-72mm, but it does not seem to be around 16mm with the crop sensor, when fully wide. Do I have a wrong setting or something?
It gets tricky when talking focal lengths without talking about equivalents. The rx has a 24mm-200mm full frame equivalent. Remember this isn’t a crop sensor, it’s a 1 inch sensor so the ratios are even more drastic. But no, at the wide you won’t get wider than 24mm. Congrats on the purchase though!
Great video ! I want to buy this camera, but i was wondering if this camera capable to shoot on low light situation, bcs i decided i want to shoot at night (photo n video) more
Hey Akira, thanks for watching and the comment. I'll be honest with you, first I would wait on buying this for the next couple months.... it's been a while since this launched and I suspect a new one is coming so the price will drop. Also, It's not very good at low light performance. Anything with this small 1" sensor won't be great at low light. If you want to shoot photo and video in low light I'd look a crop sensor body minimum or full frame.
@@DominicPhillip ahh that's a shame... the zoom on this camera is fantastic tho, but maybe i can use this on a daylight. Do you have any good recommendations ? A camera compact enough for me shooting video and photo ?
Nice review. But last part seems to be bit promoting rx 100 vii.If you could do a review of canon m6 markii that would be great so as to compare although both systems are different.
Hey, although I do love this camera, I'm def not promoting it. Just a lot of pros especially compared to the cons. I do really like that new M6 mark II, I think I should do a review of it! Stay tuned...
Great video. One simple suggestion though, when you say “ok google” in the video so very clearly, it triggers my google speaker, and I need to pause the video to stop it from explaining to me what speedy means …lol…
My only problem with this camera is the zoom wiggles the camera while working it’s extremes, even on a tripod operating with the app. It’s a distraction in the video.
Can I make music video clips with it and a stabilizer like crane m2? The slow mo is really important to me. And I probably shoot hd not 4k.but with post grading is it gonna be fine? Of course not comparing to ariana grande videos but would it be good buy? Also those video clips are for my own music so not to make money.
Hey, so you can definitely do slow mo on a crane m2 and that’s a great setup. Just remember that with the RX slow motion you’re limited to short bursts, which i don’t like. Also, if you’re looking for a more versatile camera to shoot something like this on I’d look at an older sony a6100 or a canon m50. They’re cheaper, more versatile, and much much better at slow motion video than the RX. Easier to work with and for music video work you’ll want to be able to change your lenses out for different uses.
Well I wear glasses and it is fine for me. It is just about technique. Practice for 10 mins and you will get it. This camera is just mind blowing and you just have to make minor adjustments. You will get the best footage you ever had, and also more memories just because it is so small so it is always with you. Way better than my iPhone 13 Pro Max or my dads Samsung s21 Ultra. Also does not suffer from rolling shutter like the Sony 6000 or A7C.
I just picked up a good used copy of the rx100va for a great price- so far, I am very pleased to have it as a go everywhere camera when I don't want to carry my heavier gear. The first thing that I did was buy and install the Sony grip ( huge improvement! for an extra $20.00 ) and I have ordered a second battery and travel charger. I am not loving my Peak Design wrist strap on it but the Leash is okay. This is the camera that I will take when I am not comfortable bringing along a more conspicuous set up.
Sort of disagree - I wanted thing as small as possible but also fits into the leather case so I can hang it around my neck. Although I guess they could have just provided it in the packaging at the price I paid!
Nice review. I like the rx cameras. I have the 7 and I am thinking of selling because it keeps me from using my a7iii. I am always comparing with my iPhone 11 max. I hate when the iPhone wins. Ha
Hey Scott, totally agree with you on comparing my iPhone. I will say iPhone night mode is pretty nice, but for anything with added zoom reach, extended recording time, and good audio I'd take the Rx. I also think the Rx is better if you're going to run your photos and edit in Lightroom first, but if it's just straight Jpg I think Apple does a better job. I think we should just have Apple make their own mirrorless already!?
Your iPhone wins - seriously?! I have an iPhone Pro 13 Max -stupidly!! Have you ever tried taking a video shot where you zoom and watch the whole footage fall apart as it changes lenses and the colours, depth of field etc etc go to pot!! As for the a7iii - looked at that. It seems to suffer from rolling shutter - the Rx100:does not at all.
@@colinhoward2200 thanks for the comment. Ugh I sold the rx and I have an 13 pro max on order. I still have the zv1 but I was going to sell it and use the iPhone. We shall see ….
I considered this camera. I have an hx90v which is a baby brother of the RX. I didn't buy it, (my choice cost about same) I bought an a6400 and Sigma 16mm instead. When the RX shows up on the 2nd hand market here in Saigon, I'll probably grab one. Nice review. Great camera too.
Thats a really smart choice! I actually just bought an a6400 myself and will drop a video about it soon. Such a great camera and a good value second hand!

I’m not sure I fully understand the needs you have and what you want to shoot. But I think you need to run a lengthy video feed or live stream. If thats the case I don’t know that this is a good choice. I think the canon m50 ii may be better for you. Especially rigging it up with external power and enough memory or live stream feed to run for long periods.
Yes, speedily is a word, however it is awkward using it as you did. It is most correctly found in this context: “she speedily completed the task.” Rapidly might have been a better choice for the sentence. I am not sure why speedily feels wrong there. I suspect it is more to do with common usage than anything. BTW, I am in the camp of those who prefer the 1.8 to 2.8 lens from the Five, and love the ZV1... except that they more than halved the HFR shooting times. Canon is not the only company that loves the Cripple Hammer. As to the poor close distance focusing, that is where the Panasonic LX100 II shines. Sony for slow motion and most AF, Panny for macro and touch screen.
@@DominicPhillip Unfortunately, all of these companies tend to struggle with giving customers what they really need. After all, cool design and clever marketing sell more cameras than fixing problems does. :(
EV1 was ruled out for me as it did not have the EVF. If you are trying to take scenes in bright sunshine using the screen you have no chance. It is horses for courses - and depends on your needs. It is why I guess the produce both the RX100 and EV1. There is no right answer 😀
I must be doing something terribly wrong. My ZV-1 produces far better still images than my Sony RX100 VII which shocks me. I must being doing something wrong.
I would gladly buy 2 variants of them, one with 200mm lens and another one with 18-55mm 1.4-2.8 lens. If Panasonic was able to get this wide angle lens, why not Sony? Sony wanted to compete with phones, but they went wrong direction. Instead of making it wide angle lens, they decided to go with a reach, which is used much less by general public than wide angle.
Hey Oleg, totally agree with you, most people out there will use a wide much more than a zoom. I honestly think they'll drop another version with a more standard 24-70 F1.8-2.8 lens in the future. An 18-55 would be even nicer, I like your thinking!
Bion Z processor!!! Do you mean Bionz X processor... The low light of this camera beats the best iPhone by a margin, you are comparing computation photography with singe shot. Don't do that, use MFNR or HDR in the camera, then it beats iPhone's in low light.
