You are a classy guy there mate. I live in the Bluegrass State and at 57 I am just now starting my tying adventure. I can tell that your videos will help me tremendously. Cheers, JC White
Hi Dave. Great video. Thanks much for taking the time to make it and share it. Gray Ghost is one of my all-time favorite flies in the salt -- really killing. :)
Hi Davie- I just saw an original Gray Ghost tied by Carrie Stevens at the Maine state museum and was going to try to tie one. Having seen many of your videos I thought you may have done one on this fly--thanks, as always, for such a clear and concise instructional video. I have learned so much from watching your videos. All the best, Mark
for me this has always been the the catchiest one,,the only difference I still use golden pheasant crest for the belly line , also this one is a sure thing for lakes. Great fly Davie, thanks,Tommy.
The red bar on the head was Carrie's signature!. I do not use the red bar. I love the ways he puts the buck tail and Peacock heral on the fly. Great job. I tie mine smaller on a TMC 300 6 , 8 for trout fishing here in Michigan.
Thank you very much David, maybe you dont know yet, but you r my new teacher. I had never seen so beutifful flies like you tying. i wish you all the best. Tom Czech republik
Hi Davie, I cant thank you enough!! The video was very clear and i can now whip finish my flies using a whip finisher! Many Many thanks once again, Best Regards and Happy New Year! ~David
Great Steamer Davie! The Grey Ghost is a fantastic fly over here in New England. We troll that streamer all over the waters of New Hampshire and Maine for Landlocked Salmon. We troll it in a tandem version and cast it in a single hook. That streamer style is very popular here and there is a great book by Dick Stewart & Bob Leeman titled "Trolling Flies For Salmon & Trout" that contains the original recipe for Carrie Stevens Grey Ghost as well as other famous streamers in New England. Thanks
Great tie. I don't have much use for a rotary style vise, but I one could really bang out a long floss body without spinning the bobbin every few wraps. Cool hook by the way
Hi Davie, Thanks for the advice..It makes sense . .I figured you would know the best way..Thanks again and when I can tie half as good as you, I will post a video.. Take care and keep up the great videos...Steve
.The barred look is a great spice up for the Gray-Ghost.. I tie a lot of Grays and yours looks easy and very effective...I'm from the area where Carrie Stevens' came from near the Lakes Region..Golden crest under wing and golden crest throat was used by Carrie.,But yours will work just fine...Very nice tie. Steve @ (Moon-Rise-Flies
Hey Davie I can get the Partridge hooks here in Maine, USA I just saw them in my local shop. They are either really old, or they have started manufacture again. All the best, Sean
Davie, I made a mistake on this fly. I even got all the lines right! But, I made the head red. I wonder if it would ruin it to put black nail polish on the head, and then tie the red strip onto the head? I made the head red because I thought I remembered red head black stripe so I got it backward. I was so proud that the feathers were perfect I put it in its own fly box. Then I watched the video again tonight, and the air went out of my balloon. All the best, Sean
Hey Davie i love the fly im planning on tying it and using it for Atlantic Salmon where i live in Ct, USA . Would you be able to jot down the recipe for me. Thanks for the great videos!! Tight Lines
Hi Dave That fly looks like a killer. Even though a little long according to the experts..Most fish strike for the eye so I think your fly is awesome, just the way you tie it. Keep up the nice work..Do you tie tandem streamers?? We troll tandem streamers up here in Maine and the Gray ghost is one of the best for Brookies.. Thanks again Steve @ Moon-Rise Flies
I had the same problem until I realised the thread I was using was too thick . Try using a 6/0 thread where you've been using a 3/0 thread and and 8/0 thread when you've been using a 6/0 thread etc...
Hi Davie, In your next video would you be able to go slower when you use the whip finishing tool. I bought the veniards rotary one today but I dont know whither to hook the thread over the loop at the back first or hook it onto the hook at the front first aswell as coming in from infront of the thread or from behind. Thanks, Best Regards, ~David PS. Sorry I missed you a few weeks back at the Angling Center. When would you be next available so I can return your book? Thanks!
very beautiful streamer, both elegant and fine. However, I ask myself two questions: Wouldn't such a long hook encourage stalls because of a strong support by the fish? On the other hand, as on many assemblies, in particular for salmon, are the jungle cock cheeks an aesthetic artifice that we can do without or are they a necessary signal to encourage the fish to attack the fly?
Hi Davie, Do you have any tricks to tying tandem streamers ?? I'm from Maine and we troll a lot with tandems...You make it look too easy when you put the Jungle Cock on..Even if the Fly is not a Carrie Stevens' Gray Ghost ,,it is still a very attractive fly.. My Jungle Cock always wants to roll on me ,, if I don't glue them on the silver pheasant first..Help!!!! You rule Davie Thanks Steve @ Moon-Rise-Flies
I was born and raised in New England, so there's something special about these Stevens flies. Especially this one. Thanks!
I simply love this fly. Thank you for your amazing tutorials

Yes. I had been told that many years ago. Adding the red line is rather like signing someone else's name to a painting you did.
Come on Trout season! I cannot wait to get this streamer in the water! 1 week to go in Yorkshire!
Davie, you have no idea how much I appreciate your videos. Thank you.!!.
Thank you very much David, maybe you dont know yet, but you r my new teacher. I had never seen so beutifful flies like you tying. i wish you all the best.

So beautiful! Mine are way simple. But they seem to work. I'm afraid I'd catch too many fish if I used yours!
Great tie. I don't have much use for a rotary style vise, but I one could really bang out a long floss body without spinning the bobbin every few wraps. Cool hook by the way

Thats an awesome fly. What do you catch on it if you use it at all? Salmon, Trout, Pike?
Curioso streamer Davie, seguro que es muy pescador, felicidades.
