  • Emperor Constantine XI and his commanders Giustiniani, Loukas Notaras and Sphrantzees before the fall of Constantinople in 1453. (Rise of Empires: Ottoman)
Historical account of the event that changed world history by the fall of Constantinople and with it, the end of the Roman Empire. After the Turks won Constantinople became Istanbul, Turkey's capital
After facing tremendous resistance from the outnumbered Romans, the Turks managed to get past the walls. Emperor Constantine, knewing he was going to die, removed his imperial insignia so that they wouldn't identify his body and take his head as a trophy. He then led his men where the battle was the thickest and died fighting at the city walls, near the St. Romanus gate (known as the cannon gate since the Turks placed a massive cannon directly across the gate, which lasted 8 weeks before it was weak enough for the Turks to get in. The gate of St Romanus still stands today)
The building at the beginning is the ¨Hagia Sophia¨, which still stands today.
I do not own this video nor the images displayed in it. The contents belong to Netflix.

He was a noble Roman and Greek emperor, ending the long history of Romans and Greeks with heroic act of self-sacrifice.
But it was the time in history for Fatih and the Ottomans to rise, and bring glory to a bankrupt Constantinople by making it the Ottoman capital of Istanbul. Fatih was educated, ambitious, and a visionary.
Take care of Istanbul, my Turkish brothers and sisters. And we will take care of the lands where your Turkish ancestors lived, loved, and made their families. Unfortunately, we learned to hate each other, sometimes because we were selfish and stupid, other times because foreign powers made us into enemies.

They attacked constantly, waging warfare that eventually led to the sacking of Constantinople itself, Muslims raided the Mediterranean islands taking slaves, and even raided the coasts of the British Isles to kidnap people into slavery. Lets hear the real story from me, as a Turkish history researcher. Constantinus XI died when he fight with two Ottoman soldiers. He was closer to today's Mevlanakapi (Rhegium) when he died where the Ottomans broke the defence of Byzantine first time. He was changed his emperor uniform so Ottoman Yanissaries was not understood that he was the Emperor. There are too much different stories and secrets of this conquest. Fatih, the Mehmed II's mother was Serbien and Orthadox before. And also Constantinus XI's mother was Serbian and Orthadox too. They know the same language and they have better communications as an enemies. Emperor was arrenged with Mehmed II before 1453 about peace and accepted to pay taxes. But Mehmed II broke the deal for some reason and attacked to the city in 1453. However he wanted something from his soldiers and commenders. Constantinus XI will not die and he wanted him alive. But as i said before, two soldiers fight and killed him. When someone saw that his purple color bots that which was wore by Emperors, they gave information to Mehmed II about the situation. The body has no head and Fatih Sultan Mehmet saw the dead body and he was understood it at first sight; it was Emperor...He ordered the head of the body to be found and launched an investigation into who killed the emperor. When the soldier who killed the emperor was identified, he was executed for disobeying the command. (His tomb still in Vefa district in Istanbul) After this event, he wants the severed head of the emperor to be displayed on an old column outside the palace until evening, and this is done. Later, he instructs the corpse, which the Patriarch also identified, to be buried with a ceremony befitting the emperor. The corpse is stuffed and buried next to the other emperor's tombs, which are located under today's Gül Mosque (Hagia Theodosia Church). The summary of history that i reached after long long time researchs by many resources and different country's historical documents... With respect to Constantinus XI and Mehmed II the Conqueror...
