    This is a second video on the Corolla Cross after walking around the lowest spec two weeks back.
    The main interest was in driving the Hybrid to get a sense of what is happening with this tech being reported to have so low power (90kw) figures but raising so much interest regardless.
    Somehow I forgave them for the low power figures when I looked at the fuel consumption and also driving it in town. It is not a great vehicle for the highway, especially when you need to overtake, be it other cars or trucks on long distance trips. It is as sensible as a car of this size can get, its not about performance but comfort, economy and reliability.
    In terms of looks, I find it to look so simple and plush enough to be looked at again. Not the most strunning and in no way bold like CH-R and RAV-4 styling. Toyota played it safe in design which is what I always thought Corolla is: a simple, functional and reliable face.
    The Corolla Cross is slotting between the Rav4 and CH-R, however it is Toyota's response to the currently Uber-perceived Corolla sedan. Toyota made a smart move in using the tried, tested and trusted sedan's platform to bring out the CUV is line with world demand of crossovers.
    The sedan market has been taking quite a beating and its no suprise that many manufactures are joining in on this CUV/SUV craze. I mean did you see it coming with Lamboghini? What about Aston Martin?
    So you can see no one really wanna be left behind. This car is coming in where its already hotly contested, banking on a proven nameplate and brand name its dubbed to be one of the best sellers not only for Toyota but the segment.
    I, however, feel like at the lower variant level like with Xi it will find it really tough to crack it as it offers somewhat a functional and just a car vibes with real infortainment screen and minimal morden interior and exterior specs. The higher variants look more appetising and also offer more modern features which is where I think it will sell especially coming in with Hybrid.

    Nice video, thanks for the review. The Jolion seem to be great value for money but i have heard a some people saying that the fuel consumption is really, really high which can be a deal breaker.

      Very true, currently people are going to be very sensitive to the fuel consumption. This is forever going to be a psychological matter. It does not cost much over a 55L tank but people will always feel its better to get more kilos from one tank.

    I had no interest in hybrid cars due to the lack of knowledge, but lately I've been paying close attention to dem. This review has definitely got me hooked, plus I was raised in a family of Toyota lovers n so I have a soft spot for dem beauties.
    You've got yourself a new fan my brother and now I'd like to make a special request🙃, a review on Toyota Corolla hybrid.
    I love SUVs but I'm truly seduced by the sedan hybrid.

      Hi Sibusiso, welcome to the family. Thanks a lot for the positive feedback🙂
      I know how it feels to be close to a brand in that way, very sentimental.🙂
      I will try and fit the Toyota Corolla in the schedule. Might take some time though🤔

    Thank you so much for this excellent review. This was very informative. It seems EV mode is probably only really useful in situations like pulling out your driveway or when stuck in slow-moving peak traffic, provided the battery is sufficiently charged. Nonetheless, this is a good, honest and refined vehicle that deserves to be successful...

    Great review as always brother. Nicely done. Have to say I really like the dashboard outlay👏🏾... What driving modes does this car have (I think I missed that). Does it also come with safety features such as blind spot monitor, lane keep assist?
    If it's possible, can you please also review the kia seltos brother..

    • @sebuwam
      @sebuwam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Thabang, thank you very much for warm words, truly keep me going. 🙂
      The driving modes are Eco, Standard and Power (Where power mostly feeds from internal combustion than the electric motor). It does not come with those advance safety features unfortunately.
      With the Seltos review, the age gap will make it a bit difficult to put it through as of now, I already have a line-up of reviews heading to year-end. I will try see if I can do quick overview since the rebadged it to see whats new🤔

    Phenomenal video once again (I think you know more about the the car than the salesman btw 😂). I really need your help. I am literally at a cross roads between the corolla XR hybrid and the Jolion super lux. I test drove the super lux and the Xi and felt the Jolion was more powerful/responsive. I'm on the waiting list for both super lux and Xr but just don't know which one to go with. The Xr has the reliability of Toyota and is a hybrid but has so much less tech/features than the Jolion like sun roof, lane keep assist (drives itself), wireless charging, 360 camera view and let's be honest, the jolion looks way better as well and has more passenger space especially in the back (no transmission tunnel taking up space in the back as well). The Jolion is also fuel thirsty at first but settles down after a while and also averages around 6l/100km on long distance which is amazing! I've also taken into account that I will be working from home (as most people will be going forward) so reduced work commute and more long distance trips. There's also the 5 year warranty that comes standard with the Jolion ( 7 year at certain dealerships) vs only 3 years for the Toyota (granted that Toyota is more reliable).
    I am in a real real quandary here and really really need your help. I don't want to end up selling the Jolion next year only to make a loss and buy the Xr or buy the Xr and only think about all the tech/features I could've had for less money 🥴🥲

    • @sebuwam
      @sebuwam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sey, thanks a lot for the warm words. Haha, I think we were trying to figure it out together.🤣
      Well, you putting me on a very tight corner here but I am going to have to find a way deep down to choose wisely. Here is what I am seeing, if you want to take a leap of faith in your choice, Jolion makes a whole lot of sense. The "faith" I am referring to here is that it will hold up value, especially with the way it is selling, demand helps with value retention. H2 is still holding up value well actually also based on demand and the changing perception of the consumers towards Haval as a brand. On the other hand, if you want guarantee of value retention and reliability (not only as a brand name but because a lot of tech in the Jolion is still new and we don't know how long it will hold up) then Corolla Cross will make sense. You mentioned long distances though and thats where I think Jolion will shine on ride comfort and also on performance as the Hybrid in Toyota is definitely not one to overtake trucks with ease (in the context of this comparison). If you looking to save fuel and also worried about parts and after sales issues Toyota might be your best bet but if you looking for more value for the price you pay, Jolion is hands down worth it and will definitely not disappoint you. I don't see a reason why you would sell it in a year actually🤔

    Nice review, but here are some info: the key for hybrids is not to save fuel but to reduce CO2 emissions, fuel saving depends largely on the driving style. the engine is an Atkinson cycle design, simply put they produce low torque but are more efficient. The electric motor compassionate on the lower torque and is instant. Every time you decelerate, the engines goes off, and EV only works below 45km/h & low demand/touch acceleration. My legendary 2010 Prius was torque was rated at 349Nm but i see Toyota has changed its reporting on hybrid.. This cars has no reverse gear, hence the car can only reverse in electric. Amazing technology, and reliable as a mother to a child

    Thank you Sebuwa for another awesome review. I currently own a Haval H2 (do you still have yours?) . Love the car but fuel consumption in city driving isn't great (getting +-11L/100km). First service is coming up so hopefully consumption will improve.
    The Hybrid Corolla Cross is definitely an option. From what I'm gathering, what's the main difference in the Hybrid Xs and Xr? Is it only the less powerful petrol engine in the Xr?

    • @Historymaker881
      @Historymaker881 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also torn between XR and XS spec in hybrid form. The XR looks slightly better because of its larger alloys and added styling bits. It also has a digital instrument cluster, front parking sensors and safety-assist features which the XS lacks. Though realistically spec for money wise, the XS in hybrid is the better value option and has all the creature comforts one will actually use and appreciate..

    • @sebuwam
      @sebuwam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yusuf. Thanks a lot🙂. Yeah, I still have the H2, currently averaging below 8L/100 consistently between 7.4-7.8L on the cluster but still feels like it chows anyway especially with City Driving. I have to say 11 is quite high though, you must be a fast driver because it does not forgive when you drive fast. The difference between Xs and Xr Hybrids is specs offered and aesthetics but engine is the same together with the power. I have to say for someone who drives a lot in the City this is a dream. However it makes the H2 feel like a performance car due to low power figures, I guess you have to sacrifice one thing to get the other🤔

    • @sebuwam
      @sebuwam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it depends on what you want out of a car. Haval is no joke when it comes to value for money but Hybrid is more about economy and I think this Xs is well specced as much as it falls short of Haval (e.g Jolion) on tech, it feels as comfortable, especially if you not going to do a lot of long distance travel. If you are about performance though, compared to Haval's 1.5L/7 DCT this is behind.
