They also spared at least one more when they were shooting. There was a boy hiding under a table when they came into the library and he asked either one of the shooters, I don't remember who, "Hey, what are you doing?" and he replied "Ah just killing people" then the boy says something like "are you gonna kill me?" and he looks at him and either walks away or says "nah I like you" or something and then walked away and kept shooting. Something like that, it's been awhile since I watched the documentary.

Exactly. Let it be someone else kid and they’ll scream bloody murder but soon as it’s their kid now they wanna show some compassion. I hate that killers get to plead mental health issues to avoid jail. What if the victim had mental health issues but was murdered. If they’re that crazy they shouldn’t know the difference. That’s a privilege no murderer should be allowed.

    • @malicemadness5946

Usually when people use the phrase “they were just hanging with the wrong crowd”, the person they’re referring to is deceased. And being compassionate, most people don’t want to speak Ill of the dead. It’s not always parents trying to blame other kids, it’s parents attempting to put some perspective on the tragedy that took place.

I suspect that if he did go into a television or netflix show, it would burn him out and the content would be worse for it. Perhaps the production values woudl go p, but I fear his zeal and excitement and passion would start going down. And that zeal and passion and excitement is why he i so good at this, in addendum to his hard work (motivated by his excitement for it, rather than a paycheck).
So while i agree that Mr Ballen would excel and succeed on television or netflix or some other kind of corporate media, that it was corporate media would start to ruin him for it, and I'd rather he stayed independent, free, and happy.

I'm sure they might have. But when the door didn't open fully they probably went "meh" and walked off. Even if they saw a leg, if they were wasted they probably thought "oh some poor asshole already went and passed out in here" or something.
And even THEN... You'd be surprised what people might keep to themselves. I know if I were at a part like that, drunk off my ass, and someone was like "Man I tried to go upstairs and look around, but someone passed out in the bedroom or something I can't get the door open" I'd probably get anxious over what the right thing was to do. Even though outside of the situation the obvious answer is "call emergency services"... A teenager drunk at this massive party, especially one where the kid throwing it keeps reminding ppl police could be called which would get us in TROUBLE... Idk man.

the story about Erick and Dylan telling someone to go home reminds me of the time I was working OT in the office one night. There was a guy who always kept to himself, etc. and was near retirement age. They had tried to force him out, even had a retirement party for him and gave him gifts. But he went to HR and didn't leave. He was there the following Monday. Nothing we could do about it. He was constantly sleeping, snoring at his desk, etc. A few weeks later I was working OT, which was unusual. The lights would get turned off automatically in the building, so after 6p I'd have to make sure the lights in my office were on. All of a sudden he walked in my office and said excuse me, Ms. MJ, you need to leave. NOW. I said ok, grabbed my purse and left. I think it was the first time I'd EVER heard him speak. I would always say hi to him, would bring him brownies, etc. from home so I guess he liked me. I walked down to the Director's office who was still there, and told him what happened. He said lets get the hell out of here. We left and let security know what happened. It was creepy as hell. They checked the building, nothing was amiss, but they decided he was no longer allowed on the premises and he never showed up again. I have no idea what happened to him, but a a few months later I went into my office and someone had drawn a smiley face on my notebook I kept next to my computer, and under it was written 'thank you for treating me like a human.' I showed it to the Director and he said yup.....that's his writing. He somehow managed to keep a card key to the building. So they had to inspect the building again, and change all access.

The very fact that he was telling someone in the first place meant that he didn't care if the news got out, and the complete disregard for hiding the evidence beyond one shut door likewise shows a total lack of concern for being caught.
I suspect that it was originally planned to be a proud middle finger to his parents, essentially a celebration of their death(plus some cheekiness at throwing this huge party with no one suspecting what he'd done), but I suspect - based on the way he talked to his friend about it - that after the deed was actually done, the gravity of it all hit him. I think he stopped caring much what happened to him after that point, or maybe even welcomed being caught and punished. The way mrballen tells it, it doesn't sound as though he talked about his parents' murders with much bravado. That really is a scary thought. Quick note; This horrible man we now know as “The Golden State Killer” was not known by that nickname until 2013 when Michelle McNamara coined it and began her book “I’ll Be Gone In The Dark.” He was known in one part of CA as “The Original Night Stalker” and in another park as “The East Area Rapist.” He kept moving into different police jurisdictions that, at the time, didn’t communicate. The nicknames being different didn’t help, and there was another murderer already referred to as “The Night Stalker.”
When this nickname was given and adopted, it was seen as a better descriptor and as more and more departments began compiling and sharing details, they realized how prolific he actually was.
It is true that the GSK did target the man that made fun of him in the community meeting. He was also a police officer for many years. “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” is worth the read. If you have HBO they also did a miniseries about it under the same name. This was also the first case that was solved by “familial” DNA - meaning the DNA of a family member via an ancestry website is how they ended up catching him.

Yes, you said what I was going to say. “I’ll be Gone in the Dark” is a fantastic book, and I’m sorry it’s author didn’t get to see how her own contributions to investigating the killer did finally help capture him. And it is important to note that Ms. McNamara is the one who actually connected the crimes and helped investigators figure out they were all being perpetrated by a single man she dubbed “The Golden State Killer.”

@Keegan Kokko Maybe this applies in their case, but it doesn't make my point any less relevant in these kinds of scenarios. My point stands against people who are *severely* bullied, poked & prodded at in high school, & the torment that ensues from that course. Just because these guys happened to seem shitty, that doesn't immediately devalue & disprove the significance of the sheer torment being incessantly pushed & broken can eventually build into. It's not always just the one who brings the gun to school that's the "monster" or the "psychopath". People need to give a shit about others before they end up getting way passed their breaking point.

I was living in Aurora when this happened. That night a friend did not show up to work, we were all worried about her. It was later that week found out it was her father that was killed. Those two were evil, they had good families, good lives, yet were incapable of any human emotions. I remember an interview with one of the families, and the parents were so shocked because they had never yelled at their son, never hit him, never punished him. That is when I realized where the problem started.

    • @VadulTharys

@Guerilla Gurus No I have no idea what it was like to go to school in the 1990s. I went to school in the 1970s. Being mixed race and in the south tell me how bad bullying was? Because I really have no idea what is like to be daily targeted and beaten. I have no idea what is like to be kicked out of school because they found out my actual racial make up. I have no idea what is like to be the "token". No you are not making sense in a real world. Yes in a perfect world we would all be nice and polite. This is the real world children are always cruel, because they have not learned to filter. Strength is not gained by no resistance it is only gained with struggle. The issues we are facing today with the riots and the political murders are a direct result of a generation "protected" from bullies and disappointments. Those two were evil, they said they were bullied but all evidence indicates they suffered very little bullying. Actual evidence indicates they were often the bullies and targeted some of the most bullied kids at their school. That narrative was quickly shot down by the local press who did a very detailed investigation of both their pasts, and how the police conducted the investigation and what the facts were.
I know I lived near there and as I said the teacher shot was a good friends father.

@Guerilla Gurus Hitler was very popular in the Army, won an Iron Cross for bravery. He was also very well liked and popular long before he went into politics. His introduction into the NSDAP was as a mole working for the government to determine the threat they posed. His charisma, popularity and speaking abilities led him to embrace them and then lead them. Hitler had a very strict father, a mother who coddled him and spoiled him. In school he was popular and well liked by the other students. He was unpopular with teachers after his mother died and he became sullen. Before that he was a star pupil. Hitler only ever suffered imagined slights and oppression. Well until the treaty of Versailles then every German became oppressed and suffered.

Eric originally had Brooks at the top of his hit list. Had threatened to kill him in the past. He randomly decided that day to forgive him for some reason. Eric was the true psychopath. He was responsible for most of the deaths. Dylan was mostly just suicidal and deeply depressed. Leaving him impressionable and easily exploited by Eric. Brooks was actually Dylan's very good, childhood friend who was introduced to Eric after Dylan befriended Eric after he moved to their town. This pretty much destroyed Brooks and Dylan's friendship after a very petty altercation between Eric and Brooks over a snowball fight. Just proving even more how messed up that kid was. Brooks' mother even called out Eric for "having everyone else fooled" a while before the shooting.

Yeah they were Psychopaths alright but you got to ask yourself to what is it that made them that psycho? I mean you hate to say it in a way but some of them kids probably brought a little bit of that on themselves and on a lot of innocent people who didn't even know those too but people don't just do what they did for no reason whatsoever or just because they're quote crazy mental illness is rarely 100% of the reason things like this happen

    • @ZombieSazza
      @ZombieSazza 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@mikemoore8808 well there’s the whole “nature v nurture” argument of how a person develops, is it their environment or is it their genetics? And a bit of both, but if someone is a psychopath, they’re mentally ill, and this is something that can go “undetected” (the family/school ignores signs of mental health issues) like hurting animals, doesn’t feel guilt in any capacity, is a pathological liar, and a complete lack of empathy, if the parents ignore these very obvious behaviours, which are a mental illness and therefore genetic, they are then nurturing them, they’re enabling them. By nurturing these behaviours they’ll become emboldened and their behaviours may become more extreme over time, which can ultimately be avoided if they actually watch their kids mental health and seek professional medical care.
So it comes down to “is it nature or nurture” and others thinking “can someone be born evil”, when really it’s both nature AND nurture, that they’re genetically predisposed to these behaviours and their families completely ignore the signs and don’t seek help. Hell we all know schools are terrible at actually caring about kids behaviours, so it’s easy to see why a psychopaths tendencies will fester in such a way, which is just fucking devastating if you think about it. The signs were there, but got ignored and were incidentally enabled.

Growing up in Sacramento and knowing victims, living two houses away from his last Sacramento attack, the East area rapist was my pet case. I studied everything they had. I posted on every crime message board and blog to discuss theories. In fact before the cops even considered the Visalia ransacker was the East area rapist and the original night stalker, we had already made the connection through MO. We all assumed he was a cop (not only was he a cop, in the small town next to Visalia, he was apart of the burglary department.) because of his ability to outsmart the cops and his ability to investigate his upcoming victims. After ransacking got boring, he started stalking a young girl. One night he attempted to kidnap her but her father chased him and was murdered. It was his first known killing. He left the girl. It’s then the investigation really took off. A detective named McGowan tracked his movements. He was known to return to the same house or neighborhood and they estimated where he would be. Believe it or not, he showed up. McGowan pulled his gun and deangelo started screaming and begging him not to shoot him, and while McGowan was walking over a hedge as deangelo was literally acting like a crazy person, deangelo pulled his gun and shot at mcgowan. He missed his eye by a few millimeters but hit his glasses and he was able to escape. It was after that he knew he was done in that area and transferred up to auburn. He was married to a law student and moved to the auburn police department, about 20 minutes east of Sacramento. He was a menace. He was well known in auburn by the local kids. He’d pull them over for nothing and threaten them. He was excessively aggressive. That’s when the rapes started. He targeted women at home alone, from adults to children. After that thrill was gone, he started attacking couples. The police refused to speak about it and finally held a small town meeting at school. The man who stood up was an Italian man. He didn’t berate deangelo, he berated the husbands of the victims for not protecting their wives, telling them they weren’t real men. He was targeted but there is zero proof he was ever at the meeting. He has never been identified in any photos from that night. That photo is not deangelo. Deangelo had a very round cherub face. He was an incredible criminal. He would research his victims for months. He would watch them have sex and make the women reenact what they did with their husbands. He was also known for having a very small penis. During one of his rapes in David he started crying and calling “why Bonnie?? Why???”
He was almost caught multiple times. One kid saw him jumping his fence and started chasing him and deangelo shot him in the stomach. There were reports of a man who matched his description who would stop at a 7-11 in one of his hunting grounds so they send plain clothed cops to look for him. Except they just threw a button up on and wore their police uniform pants. Deangelo actually called the store and taunted them for being so stupid. He was then fired from the auburn police for shoplifting a hammer and some dog repellent (which explains the chemical smell his victims recalled). When he was fired he actually showed up at his sergeants house at night with a gun
When he was caught it was like all the air was sucked out of Sacramento. People celebrated outside the county jail. As soon as his name was released it was like a waterfall. All of our theories were proven correct (except that he was dead and in jail). He was a police officer. He was the original night stalker and the Visalia ransacker. There was an engagement announcement for him and a woman Bonnie found (they broke up before they married). His wife was a divorce lawyer who moved to southern CA which explains why he suddenly appeared down there as a murderer. He would stop his criminal activity at the time of his daughters birth for a few months.
Basically, he was a well and true monster. But he MO didn’t just start as a murderer. He gained confidence and went from a ransacker, to a kidnapper and opportunistic killer, to serial rapist, to a serial rapist and killer. All the work us “citizens” put into this case was worth it to know we were right. If only they had taken the police officer theory seriously. He could have been caught before the murders started.

She was an author who put basically all of her energy and effort into investigating this case (if I remember correctly, she went to each of the sites of his rapes and murders in order herself). She pretty much worked herself to death over this investigation, and she was one of the big reasons why they caught the guy. It’s a shame she died two years before her efforts fully paid off.
