the parents definetly lied about "forgeting" the child and should be charged with neglect, theres no way you just "forget" about a child you've had for three years
@@ramona4913 i completely disagree. My mom and step-dad were alcoholics. And that man is definitely still responsible for what he did to us. When u wake up from a stooper and learn what u did and decide to still drink that is a conscious choice. And yes I understand addiction. That part was sad but I couldn't help but laugh at the story as a whole just because of how wacky it was. She had a roofing tile in her pocket that she used as a projectile weapon to defend herself from a man who was trying to intercept her after seeing her running down a highway repeatedly hitting herself in the face with a hammer. Immediately after which she jumped off a 40-foot bridge. Seriously, this shit sounds more like an Eric Andre sketch than the description of an actual crime.
Oxana’s parents didn’t forget they had a daughter, they severely neglected her. She was still living on their property with a pack of dogs when authorities removed her from their “custody”. They knew she was there the nearly 5 years she spent outside. Oxana is now 39 and lives in assisted living, according to doctors she has the mental capacity of a 6 year old and they think this is due to her lack of upbringing in her formative years. Oxana says she would like to be treated as a normal person. She said she sometimes reverts to dog like behavior when she is lonely. She is sad because she has no real family. She met her biological father as an adult and was introduced to a half sister he had. But her father was not interested in a relationship. Apparently she would like to meet her biological mother but news media that has done stories on Oxana have not been able to locate her mother. I saw in one article that she has brothers apparently but they don’t visit her.
@Witty Witty Death penalty for murdering someone while having a psychotic episode? That is incredibly extreme. The Justice system isn't meant for retribution, it's meant for justice and prevention of further harm, and that's a good thing.
That all seems weird, but it may have been a very large property and the "kennels" just some kind of building where the dogs slept, not a suburban back yard.
They were sever alcoholics, which is probably why she was mentally impaired, (foetal alcohol syndrome). It's in Siberia, so rural or semi rural maybe. It would be good to get a fuller picture about how they all survived I doubt the parent cared about themselves mush less anything else.

While the dogs accepting Oksana into their pack is heartwarming, its horrible how parents could just forget that they had a child. Even if they were drunk or high on drugs.
Imagine how rewarding it must feel to uncomfortably carry a whole roof tile in your pocket for who knows how long, when suddenly everything in your life leads you to an opportune moment to use it.
I literally busted out laughing at that part and that part alone. Who tf CCs a fucking roof tile. Imagine a 41 year old lady turning around and ninja stars your ass with the tile. How do you explain the story?
I don't think they did forget. I think they intentionally left her out there all those years. It would not be possible to completely forget about the existence of your child for 5 years, i don't care how drunk you get. They essentially gave her to the dogs.

You'd be surprised how hard it actually is to get someone held when they are showing signs of self harm or being a danger to themselves. Because of the bodily autonomy laws they have to be crystal clear that they mean to hurt themselves before they can hold someone of a psychiatric hold. Case in point, my brother. Long history of mental illness and self harm, ranging from slight cuts to literally hammering a 6 inch nail into his own knee while high on heroin. One day he decided to try and kill himself and he slit his femoral artery with a razor blade. I had heard him crying so went to check on him when i found him bleeding out, thankfully i have combat medic training so i did my thing while my mom called an ambulance and he was taken to hospital and fixed up. About 6 hours later to our horror we get a call from him asking to be picked up (it was mid 2020, that's why we weren't already there, we weren't allowed to be because of the pandemic), we were under the assumption because it was an attempted suicide he was going to be held for his own safety. But nope, he gave a half assed lie to the doctors and they released him.
@Witty Witty I helped a man get out of punishment scott free for abusing a woman because I thought he was a good guy, guess what he actually WAS an abusive piece of shit. Blame your own kind (men) before you blame others. Maybe if you guys weren't animals society would have a higher opinion of you
These two women absolutely met the legal criteria for a 72 hour psychiatric hold (in the US anyway) on the grounds of the extreme level of lethality of the method they chose to attempt suicide. Furthermore, this method blatantly puts members of the public (anyone who's driving) at risk of serious injury or death. As someone who has spent years working in psychiatric hospitals, I'm very familiar with the requirements and procedures for placing a 72 hour MD hold. This case absolutely met the criteria. The doctors that "treated" these women and released them with a clear bill of health, these doctors should be held liable. I remember one case in the past decade or so in which someone who attempted suicide was treated for a day and released, then promptly completed suicide. It became a huge legal fiasco for the practitioners and the hospital. There are two states in this country that, when someone successfully uses the "not guilty except for insanity" plea, they are mandated into locked inpatient psychiatric treatment centers or hospitals for the duration of the longest sentence that can be applied to the crime committed. They are rather successful programs and it's astonishing to me that most states do not have these programs; the other 48 states allows anyone using the NGI plea successfully to walk free and that is really fucked.

Fun fact: shared madness has actually been found to happen in complete strangers who meet and both have mental health problems whether diagnosed or not. It happened to a couple of young adults who met at college and both had undiagnosed mental health problems. They went on to kill several people together and when they were separated in jail they went back to being themselves and couldn't explain why they had done it.

When the police went to Lauren's apartment, it was actually garbage day, and the garbage truck was on her street. However, the police had parked their car so that it blocked the garbage cans, so the garbage truck passed by without picking up the garbage from the apartment. But she was not missing - she lived next to house, in their sight, what's wrong? *sarcasm* in fact, she was very lucky to survive among dogs. I know the story when a friend with a daughter of about 4 years old came to the owner of the kennel. The women let her "walk" around the yard and sat down to dinner. After dinner, they remembered the child, began to search and found in the kennel - one of the dogs bit the girl to death. It is not known why the dog became so aggressive. But a small child only needs one serious bite to bleed to death.
This was a child that was severely neglected by parents and likely didn't have much of a motivation to explore her surroundings. She may have been afraid of the dogs until they came and comforted her. I'm betting the child that the kennel owner let walk around the yard either did something to the dog or the dogs were being kenneled to be watched and the owner didn't know their personalities well enough to protect the child from one that may have been child aggressive. Both stories are sad. But at least for Oksana she had a chance to live and experience life. I feel so sorry for the little child that was bitten and bled to death. 😢

You can mistake the killer who was interviewed as being upset that a friend/neighbor died but knowing it’s because he killed her and he’s terrified they found evidence is so crazy.
It's only in retrospect some see it as "creepy" he was upset, but there is no reason he could not have been upset at being reminded of her death, the same way other people cry when thinking about dead loved ones. Since he was obsessed he probably did have strong feelings for her. Wonder why he actually went on to kill her. folie à deux actually doesn't only affect identical twins, it can affect any people who are very close with each other and the first known case involved a husband and wife
This is seriously late to add but there's more to that stalker story. I've researched this one a few months ago and it has stayed with me because Lauren was basically described as Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. Her neighbor had keys because he was part of the building maintenance crew. That look of shock on his face while he was being interviewed about a body being found is real. The reason for that was because when the police were doing their investigations earlier, the garbage truck that Steven knew would be coming on a certain day, was blocked from picking up the garbage that week because of all the traffic that was blocking the dumpster. He had assumed that the torso would have been taken away with the normal garbage and had no idea that the truck hadn't been able to do it's weekly pick-up. The police officer that discovered the torso actually found it because the smell of the decay was permeating out of the dumpster by that point. Her stalker assumed that evidence would be gone. Using some of the other keys that he had on his maintenance key chain, they were able to find the saw that he used to dismember her body (and if I remember correctly, they had video of him purchasing this saw which is why it was such a key to proving that he had in fact made plans to kill her). It was in a maintenance room that only two people had keys to. That look is 1000% actual shock, realizing that things had not gone to plan. Had the dumpster not been blocked, the evidence might have been taken away the day before. He was counting on that. He was smart enough to get into law school. But not smart enough to fool forensic science and police investigators. It was very tragic. It's still very tragic. He came so close to getting rid of her body. It just didn't go as planned.
"He was smart enough to get into law school. But not smart enough to fool forensic science and police investigators." I feel sorry for all the people who had to deal with Sabina - she needed to stay in an asylum after the first incident. Just a quick edit: someone said there are no asylums anymore? I'm not American so wouldn't know, but I'm sure you know what I mean anyway and you probably still have some kind of institution or place that could have done an evaluation before letting them go.
It seems crazy that after the way they acted they were just left to walk free. They endangered other people on the road, and are obviously a danger to themselves as well. Wtf
I've read about the Stephen McDaniel case and seen other videos about it, and I loved how you told the story from Lauren's perspective instead of focusing on him.
I hope Oksana is living a good life. Feral children are a tragic phenomenon. Another example I know of is actually from America. A young girl that was only publicly identified as Genie was kept in a closet or basement her whole life, and she sadly did not manage to recover from the neglect and stunted development. Edit: I looked her up, and apparently it is spelled Oxana. Edit 2: Nope. "Oksana".
I remember that story as well. I think that there was a made for TV movie about it back in the early 90s because I swear I remember watching it when I was a young kid. Wasn't she tied to a portable toilet chair and locked in a room alone for her entire childhood?
12:28 can we just appreciate that the police officer, who just got punched by Sabina, only takes a split second to react and immediately turn around and wave to try to stop traffic. Even though this woman just punched her and she was probably stunned or dazed, she was concerned enough for that woman's life that she reacted immediately and tried to flag down traffic to stop.

The ancient Greek king Pyrrhus of Epirus was killed by a roof tile hitting him in the head. Thrown by an old lady from an upper story window. LIkewise there were others. I recall a Roman general also dying by roof tile which fell off at the worst possible moment during the conquest of a city. Watch out for roof tiles!
Little do we all know they actually have a millionaire mafia boss triplet with kidney and liver failure who has hitmen hunting them down as the only known matches
For people wondering about how Aksana’s parents could neglect and forget her. There are…sadly…addicts who do only care about their addiction, even ignoring their children just to feed it. Given when and where the story takes place, I doubt the family had means of regular birth control either. They likely saw Aidan’s as less their child and more a burden, so even if they noticed her with the dogs they likely didn’t care.

It’s insane how they could release someone who’s so obviously having/ had a psychotic break and willing to hurt themselves or others so quickly
You have no clue what you are talking about. You are not allowed to just lock up people YOU diagnosed as crazy

Yeah got me
The first story hard to believe because how could her parents not realize that she was missing for more than 4 years?
But she was not missing - she lived next to house, in their sight, what's wrong? *sarcasm*
in fact, she was very lucky to survive among dogs.

It's a bit tiresome that people seem to think there is some rote way of responding to death, or that people can't have mixed emotions, be glad someone is dead on one hand, and be sorry at thr same time.

But why kill her at all?

Those poor children were on a day's outing on their own to the beach, a beach i used to play on by myself (as i was an only child). The fact that her brain was able to be like, hmm we can’t live this way so instead we are going to completely redo everything we’ve learned to adapt into our living situation. And then the fact that after all those years she was able to walk and talk again! It really does show how amazingly complex the human brain is.
