Some newer Intel CPU holders/sockets (that's where the CPU rest on the MB) on the motherboard do not have a readily visible alignment mark. There are notches on each side of the Intel CPU and if you look carefully you will see the corresponding protrusions on the Intel CPU holder/socket. Align the Intel CPU notches with the socket. It's been my experience that if you have low density and high density modules in the same machine it will cause issues, and the same goes for using double sided with single sided modules. I just want to throw it out there because I know from experience that these Dell Optiplex 790 and 990 computers won't post with DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) or 8GB DIMM Modules. They also only work with unbuffered DDR3-1333 or 1600. They won't work with Registered, ECC, or Buffered memory. They sometimes also won't work with "gaming" memory that requires more than 1.5 volts. Gaming memory is not going to be of any benefit anyway in these systems as they offer no ability for overclocking.

On Soul Not necessarily. If you do 60 fps on higher resolutions then the 1070 is the component creating a bottleneck. While the 2600 will go strong up to around 100-120 fps at 1080p ultra.
Had a Dell Vostro 230 on hand. Had a dual core cpu and an old mechanical hdd no video card. 2gb ram. I added an Intel core 2 quad Q9650, Nvidia GT1050, 600 watt Raidmax PS, bluray rom drive, usb 3.0 frot header and rear addon expension card, 8gb ddr3 1333 ram, 500gb WD SSD, put in better fans and used the old mechanical HDD as a storage drive. All of which I had on hand. Thing runs sweet. Using as my backup pc.
I would recommend starting with an Optiplex 7010. It looks exactly like the tower in the video if you get the larger form factor. However, some 7010 come with an i7-3770 already in the board. I found one cheap and threw in a 400W PSU, 32GB Gskills Ripjaws RAM, 250GB SSD, 2TB WD black HDD, and a GTX1060 6GB. It is my daily rig and I love it. It handles anything at ultra in 1080P.
Hey Matt! You can actually clone a larger drive to a smaller one so long as your data does not exceed the size on the SSD! I've done it before using hirens boot disk :)
Mysterious Jack dude ich bought a Pc with an i7 4770 an gtx 660 16 gb ddr3 ram an 120gb ssd an 1tb harddrive a power supply from corsair with 750 on a asrock Z87 pro 3 for 180€ ( sorry for my bad english)
I just bought dell optiplex 990 for $110 on Offer Up. It had 4gb ram and a 2600 non k too. It transferred my 600 watt power supply, added 4gb more of ram(total of 8gb ddr3),and my gt 1030 from my old build. This a great medium-high setting build now. I had an i5 650 before....
Did this last year for one of my boys. I7 3770, 16g, new 250 SSD & 1 TB HDD in there. I already had a GPU sitting around from some old builds, so all I ended up buying was a GTX 1060 mini off ebay for $100. I added some new thermal paste and cleaned out the dust. The GPU & CPU are a good match - no bottlenecking. It's silent and fast. If you're running 1080p at 60hz, then there really is no reason to drop $1k on a new PC.
My friend might give me his old pc and it is 11 years old and has an I7 so I was thinking of keeping the I7 adding a gpu and replacing the power supply and the hard drive then adding an SSD and RAM
Most websites for the manufacturers of "corporate" PCs have a place on their support page where you can put in the full serial number to find out what is in your machine and exactly what it can be upgraded to. Sometimes upgrading can be a little tricky because of proprietary motherboards, power supplies, etc. And ALWAYS upgrade the BIOS first.
I found an optiplex 9010 with 16gb ram and a i7 3770 for $220. No hdd, but holy crap! Got a 750ti, a cheap used evga 600w, and a $20 wd blue. Awesome system for under $300. Just assembled it today.
The i3 2120 is honestly great. I paired it with a gtx 970 and 12gb of ram and it ran gta 5 on almost ultra settings. But 1155 motherboards are hard to come by
I have a similar setup - Optiplex 790 w i5-2500, 32GB of RAM, dual Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD and 1 Samsung 870 1TB NVME SSD on a PIce 4x card, EVGA GTX 1050ti 4GB Graphics card. This setup runs most current games at maximum settings with no performance issues. I'm planning a newer build off an XPS machine with the i7-8700, but am waiting until the summer to build it.
Would going with an Intel Xeon CPU have any downsides? It seems I could get an insanely cheap buffed CPU for a build but if there are downsides let me know.
I got a asus h55 board, xeon x3470 and 8gb of ddr3 ram for 100ish dollars. I've since then invested into a better cooler (212 evo) and got my xeon to 4.0 Ghz, and it performs almost like a I7-3770 at stock. The x3470@4.0Ghz won't bottleneck a 6gb 1060 and also it will bottleneck a 1070 by only 10% which is great, i find RX580 8gb match for it. Just when picking xeons, try getting the ones that are either rebranded consumer chips or the ones with higher clock speeds and lower core count, something like 4c/8t is just fine for gaming and it's probably going to perform better than 8c/16t that would excel in workstation loads like video editing and animation/3d modelling etc etc
What you should have mentioned is, that some manufactures of OEM-PC use propitary power connectors on the motherboard (even in towercases). So an normal ATX-PSU will not work.
About a year ago I picked up a Optiplex 3010 for $12 at Savers. It has a i5-3470 and 8gb of ram, i added in a gtx 1050ti and it runs amazing. Great value for under $200
outstanding video well-put-together very professional and straightforward with educational values, I would like to say discount PC on refurbished systems is overly expensive in fact a lot of their Dell systems and servers are between $100 too $300 markup.

honestly it’s a great vid, this gave me a lot of ideas and just for £150 i built a pc that gets high frames in csgo val & minecraft & could run more games but i haven’t played anything else
I bought 2 of these for Aud $200 each, but with i7 2600 cpu, I put gtx 1050TI in one for a friend, and GTX 970 in the other (my one, plus 16gb ram). I had a 400 watt psu and 650 watt psu, and ssd for each, 2x 1tb hard drives, great compact budget gaming! You will need to drill out the rivets for the hdd cage if using a longer graphics card and move it up about 100 mm or so, so the long Gpu will fit. For 1050ti or 1060, it will fit without changing anything except better power supply, these are only 265 watts in Optiplex 990.
have an hp pavilion office pc, and it’s actually really good already! Has 16 gigabytes of ddr4 ram, Intel core i7 9th gen, gtx 950, and a 600 watt psu. Honestly, only thing I would do is upgrade the gpu to a 1660 ti, and this pc would be a monster. I paid $750 for it
Whats the point in buying a system and then upgrading/removing a lot of parts from it? Just get a really cheap dell OEM motherboard, cheap case, and then buy everything else
Typically the only parts you would remove and upgrade are the gpu and psu. The goal is to buy a cheap pc with a good cpu, which also has a good amount of ram, like 8gb. Then from there, all you need to do is stick a gtx 750 ti or 1050 ti in it as well as a better psu and you have a budget gaming pc
bought a optiplex i5 3470 4gb ram, added 500watt psu, 4gb extra, 6gb gtx 1060 and a 240gb ssd $200 total for everything off fb marketplace. 60fps ultra gaming with most games... planning on buying a i7 3770 soon to upgrade :)

while I think the g4560 was a fantastic cpu when it came out (and to an extent still is), it's only a dual core with hyperthreading. So while it has 4 cores which is the minimum you need for 2018 gaming, why limit yourself to that when you can get real 4 cores with a Ryzen 3 or an 8th gen i3. Plus both of those generations brought more cores to the masses.

I've been planning buy an i7 2600 optiplex and upgrade with a better psu in a new case with a gtx 1070.
PaneledPear6555 will that even work
PaneledPear6555 Tbh if you have a 1070 you should a better system like a ryzen system.
You didn't upgrade that crappy cooler ?
tovmassian13011 its not nessecary
That’s what I thought I mean it’s not necessary but definitely a good idea😂😬
I agree that cooler must be making that CPU hot he should add a RGB fan cooling master to keep it cool
@@MasterdanielXD he wouldn’t need rgb lmao it’s a closed case
I would recommend starting with an Optiplex 7010. It looks exactly like the tower in the video if you get the larger form factor. However, some 7010 come with an i7-3770 already in the board. I found one cheap and threw in a 400W PSU, 32GB Gskills Ripjaws RAM, 250GB SSD, 2TB WD black HDD, and a GTX1060 6GB. It is my daily rig and I love it. It handles anything at ultra in 1080P.
If it the CPU is in the motherboard you can't change the CPU without changing the board right?
@@david7598 bro the 7010 has removeable cpu
Hey Matt! You can actually clone a larger drive to a smaller one so long as your data does not exceed the size on the SSD! I've done it before using hirens boot disk :)
Got this PC from work. Teach me, Matt!
lol that is what i did but i found one with an i7 2600 non k and 8gb ddr3 ram for $180
Mysterious Jack dude ich bought a Pc with an i7 4770 an gtx 660 16 gb ddr3 ram an 120gb ssd an 1tb harddrive a power supply from corsair with 750 on a asrock Z87 pro 3 for 180€ ( sorry for my bad english)
SyniX yea but that is $223 in us also that is a pretty good deal for that price anyway lol
John Lomeli The i7 2600 is being severely bottlenecked. It handles 1070s.
John Lomeli you got to put in the account that you spent on the gt 1030 and the PSU + the extra 4gb of ram...which might be around 200-220 lol

Really you are mad to work with pcs.
Your goodness bro👍.😎😎😎
Fantastic video! You should seriously benchmark this PC!
Mine is a dell optiplex, it has 16 gb of ram, an i7 2600 and a gtx 1060 6gb runs pretty much anything
I have a Dell OptiPlex 7010 which came with an i7 3770. I added 16Gb RAM and a GTX 1070 and the performance is amazing!
Did you get a new power supply?
It’s sad because I clicked the video and this is the exact computer I have 😂😭 I get 25fps on Fortnite. That’s why I’m here

Nice job on the video man Good editing and audio 👌 keep it up
I managed to get an optiplex 990 and 9010
Which had an i5 2400 and 3470 from my local solid waste for free
Send one ;)
Also got a 990, gonna upgrade it with a GTX 670 an a new PSU
I just ordered a 3010 I can’t wait to get it!!!
I did this it came out good mine came with a i5 and added more ram and a good grafix card
I found an optiplex 9010 with 16gb ram and a i7 3770 for $220. No hdd, but holy crap! Got a 750ti, a cheap used evga 600w, and a $20 wd blue. Awesome system for under $300. Just assembled it today.
*Matt, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Discount PC is definitely what I needed to score a decent PC for less!*
Just put some RGB in mine gotta say was pleasantly surprised the grey panel in the front really illuminates well
These old dells support cheaper Xeon equivalents as well! :D
Exactly the kind of video that I was looking for! You simply nailed it, man! Liked & subscribed!
The i3 2120 is honestly great. I paired it with a gtx 970 and 12gb of ram and it ran gta 5 on almost ultra settings. But 1155 motherboards are hard to come by
Roberto Ortega the cpu might be a huge bottleneck sometimes
Roberto Ortega The i5 2400 is a better option.
the ryzen 3 1200 is much better for the same price. compare them on cpu.userbenchmark.com and you'll see
WhatTheHax cpu user benchmark is whack. It doesn't give accurate info. The i5 2400 is just as good.
PaneledPear6555 tbh,if the guy wants sumthing new,he should go for an ryzen 3
Also there is DVD+R DL writing-reading device,to unplug, and connect.Of course who uses it nowadays. But my old Dell has it.

Thank you so much like i swear i have been searching for a video like this for so long and i FINALLY found it!!
Where did you get the ram? Like what brand is it
Coretimeless you need to have the same brand of ram you can find the brand on the side of the ram stick
My father office pc..he gave me
I change it into gaming pc
i5 4thgen

You might also want to change the thermal paste
About a year ago I picked up a Optiplex 3010 for $12 at Savers. It has a i5-3470 and 8gb of ram, i added in a gtx 1050ti and it runs amazing. Great value for under $200
is a GTX1050TI 4GB GDDR5 128 Bits for 47 pounds a good price?
Really good, I payed 70 for standard 1050 2gb

Hello sir please name the Dell machine with sys specs ??
Finally a video with good information. Thank you.

outstanding video well-put-together very professional and straightforward with educational values, I would like to say discount PC on refurbished systems is overly expensive in fact a lot of their Dell systems and servers are between $100 too $300 markup.

Can I use a GTX 1050 instead of the 760
Anas Miah yes
1050ti is better for not much more money
Daboss 21 its a good quality too
I bought 2 of these for Aud $200 each, but with i7 2600 cpu, I put gtx 1050TI in one for a friend, and GTX 970 in the other (my one, plus 16gb ram). I had a 400 watt psu and 650 watt psu, and ssd for each, 2x 1tb hard drives, great compact budget gaming! You will need to drill out the rivets for the hdd cage if using a longer graphics card and move it up about 100 mm or so, so the long Gpu will fit. For 1050ti or 1060, it will fit without changing anything except better power supply, these are only 265 watts in Optiplex 990.
the case needs to be rgb... GEIMING
have an hp pavilion office pc, and it’s actually really good already!

Zereko many times the whole computer is cheaper than the parts as a separate. I've got refurb 990 optiplex with i5 2400 for $80
Oh cool, where did you get it from?
Zereko cheaper.
Zereko eBay, there are lots of refurbishers who sell these office machines all the time
Typically the only parts you would remove and upgrade are the gpu and psu.
This pc has an i3 and my “gaming pc” has a core 2 duo
Upgrade it to core to quad same thing just with 4 cores and 8 threads

Why not a g4560 $60 a h110m.2 $60 450watt evga $30 8gb ddr4 $80 and a case $70 and you can spend the rest on storage or what ever you want
while I think the g4560 was a fantastic cpu when it came out (and to an extent still is), it's only a dual core with hyperthreading. So while it has 4 cores which is the minimum you need for 2018 gaming, why limit yourself to that when you can get real 4 cores with a Ryzen 3 or an 8th gen i3. Plus both of those generations brought more cores to the masses.
not the rn 2600x get the i5 8400 its litterly $40 cheaper and only proforms 3% worse
then the 2600x
