I've had these things growing in my yard for several years and never knew what they were. Going to try these ideas out. Thanks!

Love the video! I'm just getting into foraging and this spring I have a huge patch of grape hyacinth near my apartment. I can't wait to try this!

I totally agree about yards. I spent 20 years allowing and developing a 4 acre yard that was truly alive in the midst of green zones void of anything but lawn mowers.

In the video I forgot to mention that the color of the hyacinth water changes to a beautiful blue lavender when lemon juice is added

I've seen people post about making lemonade but I tried just a taste of the flower and it was disgusting. Definitely didn't taste like something "edible," but I feel the same way about highbush cranberry. The bulbs sound more appealing to me.

Lemmon juice seems to help with the soap like taste of the saponins. As a kid if I found out something wild was edible I had to try it. Over the years I have found only a handful of wild edibles that I will crave . over the centuries humankind has cultivated the best and most suitable edibles .
My favorite green will always be purslane.
I notice many people enjoy trout lily leaves in salads .... To me the initial taste is great until the after taste hits. The bulbs of hyacinth need soaked in water over night and then boiled in equal parts water and vinegar to rid the bitterness of the saponins . I simply hope to teach in these videos and pass on tradition to my grandchildren if I should pack up for the great camp out in the sky any time soon

A note: grape hyacinth is not a true hyacinth. True hyacinths are not edible!! Make sure you are using the correct one!

The star shaped flowers on many " x" or hybrid varieties are not suitable for consumption . the native species to north America is not edible .

"Hyacinth" is mildly toxic to humans. These are "grape hyacinth" or muscari, which are not true hyacinths, and which yield a forager's treasure. Please do not make these recipes using hyacinths, though!
