I agree 💯%!! Love love love starting my morning with a cup of coffee, sitting outside on my back porch, and watching a new Garden Answer yt video. I'm surrounded by my flowers on the deck, and planting beds out in my small postage stamp sized back yard..... and get to dream of something bigger as I watch Laura and her family planting, canning, planning and everything else that's uplifting, wholesome and truly inspiring. Lovely family, lovely home, lovely gardens. Learning a lot as I do.

@Garden Answer, just to be of help, take your bands off the jars for storage. There’s a thing called “false seal”. The jar could unseal and reseal without you knowing and cause you & family to get sick. Also don’t stack your jars. Same reason. Love that your canning!!!! Keep going!!! ❤❤❤

@@yvonnealexander3241 after your jars have sat for 24 hours, remove the bands and just leave the tightly sealed "flat" lid. I also gently rinse the outside of my jars and let them air dry. Label and store in single layer. Also, if processing multiple batches on same day, consider numbering your batches on the lid so if you find a bad jar later on you can pay close attention to the others in that batch.

I love watching you can things. I didn’t know there was such a thing as the juicer thing you showed us, i’m very interested in it. I love going through your garden, I love seeing you plant, prune, and, etc. But the canning is just the icing on all that you show us the whole process from beginning to end from buying the plants, digging the whole fertilizing, planting, taking care of them, harvesting, then two canning. That’s really a treat for me.

So perhaps 8 gallons of juice which could be drinking, fermented to wine, or fermented to vinegar in addition to making jelly. You may also dehydrate and make grape fruit leather? Then there are the table grapes which also could be used hand eating, and fruit leather and maybe more jelly? Who knows. All delicious! Also fruit leathers from your stone fruits would be a nice idea like fruit roll-ups for Benjamin but no added sweeteners or colors. Healthy! Benjamin is ever the good helper and seems to enjoy gardening and making his family home attractive! Well-done Mom, Dad and Grandparents and Aunties and Uncles!

Did not want to scroll down to find my original comment but here is a recipe for gummy bears.
    Grape Juice Gummies by Soccermomblog
    1 1/2 cups grape juice
    3 Tablespoons honey
    1 Tablespoon lemon juice
3 packets of knox gelatin, (= 3 tablespoons)
1 Combine all ingredients to a small saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, whisking constantly as the mixture heats, until the gelatin is completely dissolved. When it’s reached a rolling boil, remove pan from heat and allow to cool slightly.
2 Use a dropper to fill the silicone candy molds with the grape juice liquid. Alternatively, you can pour the mixture into a squeeze bottle and use that to fill the molds.
3 When the molds are filled, place them in the fridge on a sheet tray for 30 minutes to harden.
(can use agar gelatin to make vegan gummies)

You can also drain all the juice in a large pitcher, get the next batch of grapes going in the steamer, and then pour the juice from the pitcher into the jars. It reduces how many times you have to open the hose clamp down from 12 to 1.
We consider the jars of juice as concentrate.

I’m loving the preservation part of this channel. It’s like the wreath making, fairy gardens and craft projects: giving us ideas on why we grow what we do and how to use the harvest to the fullest. Amazing! Thanks, Laura!

It looks like great harvest. You need to remove way more leaves from around where the grapes are. We had a massive grapevine of dark purple grapes. Once a week I would remove a wheelbarrow full of leaves off to let the sun shine onto the grape bunches. You can leave the leaves that are on the outer reaches. The reason to remove lots of leaves is to let the air get through to avoid any boytritis(fungas) and to help the sunshine improve the brix(sugar levels) in the grapes.😊

Laura, in the spring, you can harvest some of the tender fresh grape leaves and pickle and can them to use in making Greek dolmas (stuffed with rice and lamb). They are sooo good!

Please don’t burn yourself out canning this year cause I hope to watch you doing this for years to come! You have SO much produce that I hope you choose to can or freeze? I tried to grow grapes and it was a miserable failure. How do you get blemish free fruit without spraying or anything??? I had so many wasp it was awful. Your grapes are picture perfect and the juice process with the steamer was the best thing since sliced bread!!! Keep turning out videos Laura! I love them all!!! ❤️

You said you might filter the next batch of juice a little more; however, not filtering it offers more nutrients and fiber in your diet. It's like not filtering raw honey to get the best benefits from such a magnificent food. That being said, I didn't know there was a juice steamer extractor for fruits and vegetables. Thanks for showing us how you used it. I'm so inspired with your amazing gardening skills. Everything you plant - a flower or a tomato - turns out gorgeous. I planted more flowers closer together this past year and used the fertilizers you use. My garden was the best this year. I live in northern Nevada, so all the snow and extended cold last winter helped to give everything a good watering and chill period that they needed. Love all your videos.

Question #1: Do you have bee hives? It would be fun to watch you make honey - you have so many pollinators in your garden. 🐝
Question #2: Do you freeze dry anything? I'd love to see that.
    Love, love, love your videos!!

My husband bought me grape plants a couple of years ago. They took down my wire and staple trellis so we built a wooden one. I didn’t know how to make juice so I’m excited about this video. I’m always amazed at the health of your plants. The Japanese beetles did a number on mine.

Japanese beetle traps only WORK IF you submerge part of the bags over a big wide tote of soapy water. I did that 1 year....Seriously I saw no beetles for 5 years... (I must have cleaned out the neighborhood).
Dug a hole and tilted tub into it.

I use the steamer that’s been in my husbands family for generations so it’s not all shiny but has brought so much flavorful joy to our family. I use it mainly to juice fruits for jelly -chokecherries, crabapple, plums, and juneberry- yum! Enjoy this new tool for years and years to come. I hook the pincher closer to the spout and hang it on the handle so it doesn’t drip during processing.

Laura, I appreciate so much your canning videos this year. I don't know if I'll ever do any of that, I'm mostly a "city girl with a small garden" but... My grandmother and aunts used to talk of all the canning they did (they were farmers from Iowa and Oregon, Lakeview!) and I never got to experience it with them. Of course, they didn't have all the newer-fangled equipment and didn't even have air conditioning to enjoy while they were doing all the work, but your demonstrations are a real connection for me to them and to the caring, difficult work that they did to sustain their families through decades, including through the Depression in the 1930s. I recall canning time for them was also a time where they came together to help each other's households and to share family time. It was hard work, but they loved the traditions associated with it. I have done a lot of pickling this year: cucumbers, okra, banana peppers, and am working on so many of the great methods you've shown us. Great job on the grape juice!

Memories. ❤ My mom always canned grape juice (and everything else since there were five of us kids to feed😊). She was so excited when she and a neighbor were able to share the cost and purchase a steamer similar to yours. We would mix equal parts grape juice and water to drink. So delicious! And your pink juice is beautiful. I think I need some of those grapes.

You can take a potato masher and squeeze all the juice out. I've been using one of these juicers for years and we juice elderberries and grapes every year! No filtering or processing. We run it hot out of the juicer and seal immediately and all the jars seal everytime! so much fun, what a wonderful investment.

I don’t know if white grape juice does this, but purple grape juice will grow tartaric acid crystals in the bottom of the jar over time in storage. So, don’t be alarmed if you find crystals in the bottom of a jar, they are harmless, just strain them out. They are a great homeschool lesson!
