malcolmar @malcomar totally agree. I was fortunate enough to recently purchase a 2018 GT Manual in Australia. I felt that now was the time to get a new NA Manual v8 before they disappear. All my research did not convey what a great street car the GT is. Handling and driver engagement is fantastic.

A great engine combined with a smooth-shifting manual provides a connection between man and machine that is hard to match. If we want our kids to know what these cars are like we must buy them now and maintain them so we can pass them on otherwise they will never know what it is like to truly drive a car and not let it drive you.
malcolmar that’s pretty much the plan. My 14 yo daughter loves the GT and will learn to drive it as it will be hers eventually for all the reasons you pointed out.

5 second delta btw the two based on tire and ride height. NCM is a tight track for the most part. A delta that large suggests these are cars from different classes. I'd mount a set of 305 19's on sport cup 2' on the base model out of curiosity to see how it'd react.

Will iam it will produce bragging rights for single lap times but in a long race the brakes and tires will begin to show the weight. It is too heavy. The 350R is the best Mustang for road course work.
Had to settle ? Not really. The 5.0 is a great engine. Just put a supercharger on it. Will cost less than the gt500. May not have the overall performance, but a very fun car overall.
Great review! You have to give Ford lots of credit for this car and the 350 GT. Even more considering the price sure the interior of these cars leave something to be desired because many cars in the same price range offer more as a whole. Still when you look at what these cars can do it’s a bargain. Personally I’m not a big person on the different modes, digital dash,etc . More of a analog guy.
Great review as always from someone who can take these cars to the limit. Why, though, is this generation of Mustang so porky? (4,000 lbs is a lot even with that big engine in the car). And I wish the back seats were more usable. Sat in a 4 cylinder at the dealer and my small kids couldn’t fit behind me! I recall driving my buddy’s ‘67 Coupe in high school and having four of us in the car comfortably.
@@bob-qi4nr True but the Ford GT was not a top model and was just being used for the afternoon to diagnose an issue with a different car, they set the record accidentally with only 3 Ford employees there. The ZR1 was being driven for days at the track with a full crew trying to get the best times. The 2 cars are very fast and pretty close in performance but there's no doubt a Ford team with a full day and comp series car would set the record again

I really like these cars, but I can't warm up to that engine note. JMO, sorry. Also, these things look heavy as hell. I know they aren't insanely heavy, but they are portly and all that weight seems to work against everything the engineers tried to make world-class.
The thing about the Mustang, is that it starts as a $25,000 economy car. Ford has the GT as their ultimate expression of aerodynamics, weight reduction, and track prowess. The Mustang is a pony car which has true track chops in the form of the GT350 and GT500s. The usability of the Mustang is one of it's advantages.
Great but so darn expensive! The plain GT is better overall value and half the price and almost same performance or better based on options and mods after purchase.
Look any gt variation WONT touch the gt500 in any way or form doesnt matter a bullit or a pp2 the GT500 matches a gt3 rs witch none of the normal gts cant even dream of

But the question of value is subjective and the value of 3.5 seconds to 60 for a GT500 vs. 3.9 for a GT with the 10 speed is also subjective. Fun is also relative and some people love their cheap used Miata as much as a GT500 or Corvette. Do you really get what you pay for? It’s all a matter of opinion and everyone has an opinion!😊👍🏻
Also do note that the Shelby GT350R did a 2:13.6 around the track again faster than the GT500, so the base GT500 is more of a straight line monster and an incredible every driver powerhouse which is very capable, the GT500 Carbon fiber track pack is the hardcore one, and that too just did a 2:09.40 again a great lap still not as fast as I expected all down to the bonkers 4000+ lbs its carrying, I think the ZL1 1LE wud be at least as quick as the GT500 with 100 less HP. And nothing beats the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, simple Naturally Aspirated 9000 rpm singing flat6 and yet did a 2:04.xx faster than the 19 ZR1s 2:07.45, now thats engineering masterpiece that US still has a long way to go. The C8 Corvette Grand Sport is the best chance, hope GM steps up with the C8 GS
Tires have nothing to do with the time when there is over 300 horsepower difference. That simply implies the Camaro is a far superior platform. It's a Camaro had equivalent power it probably be about a 10 second difference against the Mustang
The gt500 base model set up more for drag racing. Runs 10.6 133 from the factory. The 1 LE is completely built for the track. Not sure why you would compare them. A comparable would be the non super charged gt350/350r with similar weight and hp built for the track. I’m sure you will find they also have similar times. The gt500 track pack should be compared to other track cars in the 80k-90k range and see where it falls. The ss1le should be compared to track cars in the 50k-60k and I’m sure it does very well. If you want to use mustang or camaro on the track you should obviously get the track option.
What about the zr1? Ford's ultimate creation already overshadowed by the c8. When those variants come its over and you know it. A ton of power is great but efficiency is horrible.
Both are still Ford Mustang dogs where you have to Add & Add $$$$$. Not so with the Chevy Camaro ZL1-LE out the showroom stock no adding $$$$$ still can't beat for less..

I did a track day at NCM MSP a few weeks ago in my Boss 302. NCM is a spectacular race track, it just blew away myexpectations.

19" wheels will not fit over the front brakes - they are enormous!

The GT500 can do 10.6s in the quarter mile but depending on the surface.
This is a track monster. Excited to see what Chevy does in response.
As long as you have the budget to keep it on track. Gets mighty expensive being so heavy and consuming tires and brakes like they’re candy.
The Corvette ZR1 has done a 2:07.45 with some driver errors, I guess a 2:06.50 is possible with 2019 ZR1

6 inter coolers, DCT, and huge brakes all add extra weight.
Base GT500 with 760hp is barely a second faster than a 460hp SS1LE? Goes to show - chassis and balance is everything.
