  • I made this simple smoker out of basic supplies you should be able to pick up from any hardware store. This is an unsanctioned build as always be careful and have fun! Imagine reading very fine print: " Unsanctioned fabrication isn't responsible for your actions! ;) "

    It a 31 gal. galvanized trash can. I made it to use wood and charcoal. I love the taste of it! The fire plate is just a metal 16" pizza pan. That i made places to move the fire plate up and down, and a water drip pan. This Smoker, not only smokes, but grills, and can make pizza, in 16" pizza pans! ITS A GREAT PIZZA OVEN TO. I have to buy some 18" round grates, I have place i can put rebars, to hang things in it to > I love it ♥ THE BEST ALL AROUND SMOKER, GRILL AND PIZZA OVEN EVER👍👍 This will replace EVERY COOKER ON MY PATIO > THE WORK HORSE OF THEM ALL 👀 EVERY THING IN ONE CHEAP SMOKER 👍👍 WOW

    I had the same problem with the air valve being up high like that when I made one of these a long time ago. I had to keep the ball valve down on the ground for it to pull fresh air in.
    I didn't think of the meat hooks though. I used a grill. I like this idea. Next time I make one of these I'll try this meathook design.

      @Edward MacMillan vaporized Zinc is certainly dangerous at it's boiling point at over 1600 degrees Fahrenheit, but that's Very far away from my 150- 250 degree smoking temperature. What's worse is how nasty nonstick coatings are and most people use them without even knowing, Thanks for watching!

      @@UnsanctionedFabrication I once gave myself metal fume fever while making something from galvanized steel - I knew to be careful but got distracted when trying to solder an awkward joint.
      I just did a quick search because I vaguely recalled it taking a lower temp that that, and saw 392°F as the recommended maximum temp for hot dipped galvanized. I can't vouch for that number (was just the first result), but consider checking if you think it will get close to that.
      Nicely built, regardless.

    I had a tent smoke sluice pipe> i put it on the led rather than the side. Reason i want the smoke and heat go all the way up and out of the pipe! It has a can with a hole over it to adjust the heat, and smoke/ and to help put it out. I put a handle on the can where it can be twisted around for my settings

    Alton Brown uses a 110v hotplate under a pie tin that holds his wood. if you do that, you won't have to remove the grate to tend your fire.

      Galv. is safer than Teflon pans! Zinc burns at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and Teflon puts out toxic fumes at 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Smoking is low temperature, grilling is high temperature, and not to point out the obvious but cooking with molten zinc at 1000 degrees would be bad on many levels!!!! Thanks for watching

      It could be dangerous if you get the smoker to over 800 degrees to vaporize the zinc. If you cook at that temp I don't know what would be more dangerous your food or the zinc! ;) For better temperature control I used an electric hot plate with a pan of wood chips, and so far so good.

      Zinc is very safe for human consumption, and your technically not cooking on zinc. But burning zinc at over 800 degrees Fahrenheit to the point of vaporizing (and inhaling the fumes) is Dangerous, but if you're cooking at that temperature nobody should be eating your food anyway. This is a low temperature smoker, not for BBQ or grilling. Thanks for watching, btw the channel isn't called "Mainstream Fabrication"! :)

    • @UnsanctionedFabrication
      @UnsanctionedFabrication  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re looking to get it hotter you’re gonna need more air intakes and open the lid more to exhaust the smoke. But if you burn too hot it will vaporize the zinc which is not healthy! I’m sure you can find videos on how to burn off the zinc, if your looking to get it hotter. I also Converted it to electric with a $20 hot plate on the bottom and I used a pan of wood chips on top, that gave me a steady temperature and all the smoke that you can handle! Happy tinkering!!!
