- Welcome to one exciting international show of orchids and plants, Wellington International Orchid Show 2024. These are the new kids on the block putting orchid shows together. Florida is exploding everywhere with amazing shows. Adding more international shows to Florida’s repertoire of orchid events is Pam Waters and Micheal Sands. This show became their brainchild about a year ago. After speaking to them at the preliminaries of their planning, we planned out covering the show for my channel, and now that reality has come to fruition in a magnitude unexpected. This show was as good as any prominent long running shows I’ve attended. Kudos to them and the rest of their staff for a job well done. Yes I saw the tea cups on insta and was like I need to get a tea set lol 😂. But I need to stop spending all my money on orchids first. Looks like a fun show 🤗 will be watching part too soon
Those tea cups are precious. I really like what Roxy is coming up with. She is constantly upgrading.
I’m thinking there are so many flowers that grow wild here, maybe there’s a wild orchid like the lady slippers I grew up loving.
Orchids grow wild everywhere in the world except Antártica. I’m sure you most likely have wild orchids in your area. 💚

It’s a party every time we get together. Honestly it’s always like that. Orchids bring out the kid in us. Reclassified as Or-kids. 🤩

Your videos are always so much fun to watch Nel!! Thank you for taking the time to film and educate simultaneously. I went there on Saturday and I was shocked to see how much they had sold since your live😳 but of course I managed to buy a couple (like the huge nobiles from Phrao)
I’m so glad you got to go considering you are a pro orchid shopper. I was completely thrown back when I went Sunday and saw 3/4 of the orchids gone. I believe this was a huge success specially for its first event. The Phrao nobiles were to die for. Hitting myself for it taking any.😭

Thank you Nelson for pointing out all nurseries that have a lot Oncidiums, i spent a whole week in Florida and hauled 107 Oncidium orchids back Georgia, i grab 10-12 plants/nursery to help all small business out. LOL i plan to stop by Wellington Orchid show but get sick so i have to drive home, sadly i can't attend the show to say Hi to you. 😕 Got chance to talk with Nick at Krull Smith, he is extremely nice and friendly.

I wouldn’t have any idea. I don’t know the amount of species they may have. I do know they cary many different ones.

They don’t do well in my property. I’ve tried in multiple locations and they just turn completely yellow. Plus it’s such a a massive orchid that takes so much space. Not one of my personal favs.
I have an ansellia africana and that can become quite large as well but it's tough as nails.survived multiple hail storms,snow last year( only for 3 days)

Hello Nelson - I’m wondering if you know of any orchid growers on the Azores. Just curious. It’s a perfect climate and as soon as I can buy some I want to. I may have to order them online but Idk if they can be shipped here.
Here in Florida you won’t see them. Azores orchids usually grow in mountain sides and even in volcanic terrain seen in Portugal. I believe most of the orchids that come from Azores grow in a climate that’s not compatible here in the states. But I would love to hear of anyone attempting to grow them. 💪🏼

You may want to play it again. Part 1 does not have any audio loss. I just played it here and it’s perfect. Part 2 I had to lower the volume during the Hiko bonsai showing because they had the radio playing music.
7:36 lovely flower like you say but sadly not on its way out but riddled in damage. In fact the culprit or one of them can be spotted very clearly on the sepal of the violacea hybrid shown just before it (6:49). Nothing new when going to these fairs, just das to see such a beautiful plant have what I consider to be the worst problem far worse than viruses unfortunately. So I do look out for the signs like a hawk. I know I should just focus on the beauty more. To me growing beautifully healthy orchids is the beauty of growing though. Flowers are just a byproduct of good growing lol.
If only life was perfect. I guess there’s is beauty in the perfection of imperfections. 🤗
