@@jodie8453 "the only exceptions are 2 of the main characters, Jenna and Jake" SJJS The Squip sounds more like a teenager than Jeremy, and it over-all seems off, the pitiful children was absolutely BUTCHERED by this hhh- Plus, no hate to Roland but Connolly's higher-pitched voice fits better for the role.
@@HDAFANFCYFJ I wasn't trying to say anything that compares the people that originated the roles to the broadway cast, I was merely trying to tell this person that most of the people in the broadway cast were part of the Two River production. To put it simply, I don't have a preference nor do I care about other people's preference. I have seen both productions and both were beautifully crafted in their own way.
Jhanleigh Vivas Yeah I get it, but I think it’s pretty obvious they mean Jeremy and the Squip? Since they make up for 70% of the soundtrack. So of course it sounds like the whole cast was changed when the two most dominant voices were changed, is what i mean-
The only character switch I personally liked was Jenna. I don’t necessarily know how to explain why I didn’t really like 2015 Jenna, I just enjoyed 2018/2019’s Jenna more.
i love both sooo much, but the song/line changes from the original cast to the broadway production sometimes just,, ruins it for me. esp the cut lines from the squip song cuz i LOVED that part so much 😭 edit: OH YEAH AND THE FUCKING CHANGE IN INSTRUMENTAL IN MITB THAT ADDS THE VIBRATO. I GET THAT ITS AT A HALLOWEEN PARTY OR WHATEVER BUT ITS SO UNNECESSARY AND RUINS THE MOOD OF THE SONG FOR ME 😭😭
I feel like the beanies on the floor in 2015's Two Player Game really let the actors stretch out and feel more relaxed, Imo they look cramped on the bed.
I love both productions, though I'd prefer listening to the original one because it seems more... Natural? I don't know why. I like Will Roland's portrayal of Jeremy and Will Conley's. I also enjoy Jason Tam's Squip (though I didn't like it at first, I got used to it.) My point is I like both productions of it, and I don't really know why some people don't like the new one, but I respect their opinions.
For me personally: It's not that I don't like it, I'm kinda scared of it I guess? I fell in love with the original and don't want to see any of my favorite parts be delivered without the same heavy emotions they had. When we look at Michael in the Bathroom, (to me at least) it seems much more flat in emotion compared to the original Just my opinion 😳 don't @ me
Lizard I get what you mean, completely, but it’s still worth giving the Broadway album a chance. Even if you don’t like it, the original will still be there and won’t be changed. Just so long as you respect those who do like the Broadway version more than the original, or who like them equally
I kind of share your point of view: I think that the original cast felt more natural and energetic. For example, in the squip song, the songs endured the same though they cutted the ¨Picture this¨ part, and Michael in the Bathroom felt less emotional. But still, since Brodway´s version had more budget the sound effects had better quality... Both are good, but i rather the original
The new one seemed too flashy and campy to me. I liked the original just because it was smaller and more tame while still having the right idea and energy.
I truly do think that the 2019 set and costuming was MUCH better than 2015. What I dont love the 2019 version is how much they changed the characters, and I dont mean just their backgrounds. Adding backgrounds to the characters was a good thing in my opinion, but then they changed smaller aspects of them. That's when they lost the essence of most of them. I feel like they tried too hard to make these characters perfect that they came off as unnatural and fan servicey. For example, Michael being more stereotypically gay with a higher voice and with the genuine excitement in the "my mothers would be thrilled!" comment. In the original bmc michael was saying it sarcastically because rich used boyf as a way to bully them. There was no reason for michael to be happy about it when rich had made him & jeremy miserable since sophomore year. Him being excited about it felt like fanservice to people who ship Jermey/Michael or Rich/Michael. I'm all for michael being gay if it were a decision made early on & shown throughout the show, but changing these aspects of Michael in 2019 for the sake of doing so felt extremely like fanservice and disingenuous. Also, christine going full stereotypical Annoying Theatre Kid rather than being someone who genuinely loved theatre but could have a personality outside of it like on her date with Jake was difficult to watch for me. (I know a lot of people love her character, but in 2019 it felt too exaggerated and unrealistic for me) I think as they went to broadway, the overall story themes stayed the same, but so many small changes were made to the characters that they became oversaturated characitures of who they originally were meant to be. Plus, I think so many things were changed for the sake of the fans, and that's when shows lose a lot of their charm. That being said, I do genuinely love BMC's cast and crew. They're all incredibly talented singers and dancers. I just wish that BMC hadn't lost so much of it's soul on it's way to Broadway
I think Michael in the original one was low key gay but he was chill and he didn’t really care but it seems like in the Broadway version he was the annoying gay guy not a lot of people like, plus they took a lot of meaning out of Michael in the bathroom by making him seem way to soft but in the original he seems to be a bit better in taking the news idk just my opinion
Tbh I didn’t really like the new costumes either especially for the Halloween party it didn’t seem realistic that teenagers in 2019 would dress so flamboyant and Ik be more chill isnt super realistic on its own but still
What I love about the 2015 version is that its got heart. It has the tired trope of a high school nerd getting popular overnight, but it’s unique instrumentation and campy dialogue gives the show personality. The Broadway version feels like a reboot of a cult classic. Every character is exaggerated to an annoying degree, and the show ends up feeling like adults are playing 12 year olds pretending to be in high school. I cannot express how much I love and how talented Will Roland is enough, but he just is not the right person for this role. Will Connolly plays the role perfectly in my opinion. He nails the kinda creepy quiet kid vibe while also being an innocent dork. I think Roland misses the mark, and unfortunately his subpar performance is amplified by the rest of the cast overacting their roles (minus Jake and Jeremy’s dad, I kinda liked them). I felt like the Broadway version focused on the high school popular nerd story and not what made that overdone trope bearable and fun to watch, and the show really suffers because of it.
Jake, Jeena, and Mr. Heere I feel all improved in the Broadway version since their characters were given more depth or felt more grounded. But yeah, I think Will Roland (though immensely talented) was miscast. He gives more of overconfident ostracized nerd while Conally gives more loser sits-in-back-of-class geek portrayal, which is how I personally read Jeremy's character. Be More Chill as a whole works better as a small, earnest, niche musical than a big broadway performance, especially given the audience that shot it to popularity was the tween/teen tumblr user crowd.
If you listen to the broadway cast recording it’s really apparent how much synth they added to the instrumental and it almost sounds like it’s on midi where the off-broadway sounds more organic
I suppose the TRT one was originally more pop rock oriented, but then they went down more of an 80s esque edge with the costuming and the music for the broadway version
i personally think 2015 is better, it was more ‘acoustic’ which i thought made the songs more unique, i get that it makes sense for the music to be more mechanical because it’s a modern story, but in michael in the bathroom i can’t stand the new version because of the music, george salazar is amazing in both versions though! love him!
The original teaser for the original 2015 version has literally made me cry many times because of how badly I would’ve liked to see it with the complete original cast.
I dont have a preference, but some people are so brutal when it comes to the Broadway version. They blatantly hate on the actors and negatively compare off Broadway to Broadway. Also, people in the musical theater community in general shit on the show in its entirety, i'm honestly surprised that a community that's genuinely welcoming and diverse wouldn't' at least give this show a chance. Be More Chill isn't my favorite but Its also not my least favorite. When I say people compare I mean when they say things like: "so and so is absolutely terrible and destroyed the character and brought down the rest of the show." Its 100% okay to have an actor you favor more than others, but whats not okay is being rude and harsh. I do love Will Roland, and i honestly think he did a good job acting out the more serious parts in the show. Its okay to like one version more, or to not like this show at all. Please just be considerate, these were/ are people who gave their all to put on the best shows possible.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who realized and feels this way. I never knew BMC was like this but Six has such a welcoming and.... opinionated community. Opinions are fine but if you dont like someone then dont watch their videos/bootlegs
yeah, but its the be more chill fandom. hardly anyone in there is considerate. I got death threats on tiktok becuase I said i didn't like boyf riends. personally I like both the productions, but the music in the broadway production is pleasing to me because of all the synth. also broadway added Loser, Geek, Whatever, which is the ultimate autism anthem /j
Tbh going just based on this the 2015 Jared and version of upgrade was quite a bit better but production wise it improved a lot. Play rehearsal got a lot better, but even Micheal in the bathroom seems like it was made...softer? for some reason? It seems less genuine and almost mocking with that strange accent he pulls during part of it
Jashin325 I agree, tho the first one is played more professionally and it’s showed that it was in a recording studio. In a normal production the actors sound very different because of the acting and singing going on all day.
I honestly liked how vibrant and more "techy" the 2018-2019 version is, it adheres to the overall theme of the musical. But I liked the 2015 version more, it has more of a natural feel to it, the stage, the costumes and props really feels like a school setting.
To be perfectly frank, it seems like people just kinda prefer the version they were introduced to first ... I know most people got to know the 2015 first and therefore they prefer it, but I came to the party really late through the 2019 version and therefore I personally prefer it, even after listening to both. Will Roland just plays Jeremy with more vulnerability, that combined with LGW makes it easier to sympathise with him IMO. Buuuut I won’t deny that Eric William Morris is the superior SQUIP. Like I said, I completely understand why people prefer the original - if I’d listened to that one first, I’d probably feel the same way. As is, I prefer the Broadway version. I could go on and on but I don’t wanna write an essay.
Meri brooks It’s worth listening to both soundtracks in full, it’s not the same as watching them but its something. The bootleg of the 2015 version is easy to find, the 2019 version less so
Okay but Gerard Canonico tapping the back of his head to indicate he was being subtly mind controlled in the last part of More Than Survive is those details I'm here for
Please don’t attack me y’all but I saw the broadway version and it was a 4/10 for me. Super disappointing to be honest. They only used Will Roland for his name (he didn’t fit the role well) and the only change that I thought was actually awesome was the change in the Smartphone hour (it was so much more fun!). They took away a lot of Brooke and Chloes character development as well. And as much as it pains me to say, George looked and sounded 40 when he was playing a teenager. He still did great and was super sweet tho. Also the squip had this really weird surfer accent that killed all of his stuff. I know he was trying to make the character his own, but it didn’t even seem like the same character tbh. I was most upset that they didn’t even reach out to the og Jeremy, who would have been a lot better than WR, who’s definitely more of a character actor. Sorry for writing a whole essay lol.
I didn't see the Broadway show, but most of your points I agree with after just listening to a few songs when the soundtrack came out. I told someone this then and still agree with this, but taking it to Broadway felt like a way for an easy Tony. The original show had a huge following before Broadway, the show was only open for a few months and then closed super quickly after the Tony Awards.
What I liked about the new production is the new song Loser, Geek, Whatever. I think it's necessary to understand Jeremy's decision. Also, I like Will Roland's Jeremy bc of the acting and the way he conveys Jeremy's awkwardness. I think if we mixed both Wills we'd have the perfect Jeremy
People say the Scott Folan from the London production is a nice mix of both Jeremys. Also, completely agree about Loser Geek Whatever and Will Roland’s performance, they’re the main reasons I prefer the Broadway version
The only thing that improved was Smartphone Hour and Jake and Jenna as characters. The other changes were just unnecessary, like the SQUIP’s voice. I HATED it so much. Like whyyy 😰
I didn't like his voice in the Broadway version, but they changed it because the SQUIP is Keanu Reeves and he sounds like a surfer dude. Jason Tam was only trying to imitate him.
The broadway version of Jake made the relationship between Christen and Jeremy seem even more forced than ever because Jake and Christen seemed to fit so well together
As someone who saw the on-broadway production after falling in love with (And watching many bootlegs of) the original, I def was dissatisfied with some of the Broadway changes, HOWEVER I really genuinely enjoyed the new show and felt like it was still the story I had grown to love. As long as you didn’t approach the broadway version as a carbon copy of the original, it wasn’t as bad as people said it was. As much as I missed parts of the pitiful children and didn’t like some of the character choices, I sobbed out loud during the “I’m tired of being the person everyone thinks That I am” part in upgrade, absolutely vibed with synch up, and adored the new choreo! The only thing I didn’t like about Either production was the costume design lol. EDIT; Jason tam dabbing is the ONLY reason why I liked the broadway version better
I remember showing my friend clips of the 2018-2019 version after we had both been fans for years and he said said "huh, Broadway managed to make Michael even gayer, which is impressive because he was already pretty gay"😂😂
I heard the 2019 version first. I hated it. I don't know, it just seems weird? I know it's a weird musical, but it just felt forced. Then I heard the 2015 and I loved it! I think it all depends on preference. I prefer the way the actors in 2015 that play Jeremy and the Squip sing than in the 2019 version, but I think it all depends on what you like :)
I can’t even listen to the 2019 version except for smartphone hour one of the only major improvement. But I really don’t like the Will Rowland portrayal should have had a fresh face in my opinion
Ikr, watching that felt.... artificial? I'm not hating on it, but something just didn't click work those two. Idk it could be the on and off stage relationship or the way WR doesn't look at Micheal at all??? I still commend all the talented actors who are in the show, 2019 or 2015. But from what if can tell the 2019 Production felt more like vegan bacon than genuine ham. :/
@@crimsonmaverick8237 which is funny since Will R and George had many videos before BMC of them performing songs together or being involved in a song the other sang.
I think both productions had their ups and downs. In the Broadway version, The Smartphone Hour and Do You Wanna Hang got a lot better and I like the changes they made in Upgrade and (my personal favourite in both versions) Voices in My Head, but there is something off about Michael in the Bathroom. And Jason Tam's Squip is a little bit... weird? I love Will Roland's Jeremy as much as I love Will Connolly's though. Also, Loser Geek Whatever is honestly one of the best songs in the musical and it doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.
Imo the upgrade change was awful. I literally want to die every-time I hear Jake’s lines in the Broadway version they make me cringe so much compared to the original, no teenager would actually say stuff like that. And I didn’t like the way they tried to give all the characters too much depth? If that makes any sense probably doesn’t idk just my opinion
UNPOPULAR OPINION: i think jason tam AND will roland BOTH fit the roles REALLY WELL. i personally like will roland and him as jared in deh, and jeremy in bmc. WR version of jeremy really shows the geeky side of jeremy. I LOVE THE “SURFER” DUDE ACCENT ON THE SQUIP, i feel like it adds character to the squip. if y’all disagree, just keep it to yourself. no need for arguing🥰
I hated what they did with Upgrade. It was my favorite song from the original cast and now they just put a song in the middle of it, totally took me out of the show
I like both :’) it just irks me how in making some of the songs more “shiny” they lost a bit of the original vibes (also jared i mean will roland is a lot more sarcastic energy but still great)
Even if I only got into BMC 2 months ago, I liked the 2015 version since that's the bootleg I watched first; WC is an amazing Jeremy and i might be biased bc WR has my heart but I also absolutely LOVE WR as Jeremy,, so imo 2015 is superior but the 2018/19 version is genuinely amazing; I was annoyed with how different Jeremy and the squip's voices were, but I eventually started to love them. Just like how I hated Loser, Geek, or Whatever the first few times I listened, but in all honestly, it might be my favorite song! Moral of the story, people have opinions and they can either stay, or change!
Don’t be sad. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion, including you. Both have incredibly talented actors and an incredibly talented crew. I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Don’t let it get you down, and have a lovely day! ^^
same :””) I saw it on broadway and it was just fantastic, I don’t see why people hate the squip’s voice so much I think I sounds pretty cool and I love how Will Roland portrays Jeremy
As a non-BMC fan, I can say that it's obvious that the 2019 version is more refined. Maybe they had a larger budget or more time to work on it, or maybe the video quality was just better but it looked better and was more aesthetically pleasing. I think that the 2015 version is still amazing and still captures the spirit of the show, the 2019 version just had more to work with.
The 2015 footage shown here is a low-quality bootleg, as opposed to the clips from the 2019 production which were professionally shot, so that answers your question
Everyone hating on WR, I guess I'm biased because I just love WR, BUT I think he brought a more geeky vibe to the character especially since he isn't as conventionally attractive as WC it makes it more realistic to see him as more of a loser. Also no one is talking about Jenna which btw adding Tiffany Mann to that role was the best decision E V E R and I think Jason Tam killed the Squip really serving the energy of something not human Also not to mention POC REPRESENTATION IN THE BROADWAY CAST (I feel I'm going to get hate for this, but the revival of this show needs more credit js)
THANK YOU! I’ve been waiting to see another person with this opinion. The only thing I don’t really agree with is the squip. I hate how they mad him talk, otherwise the singing was fantastic
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i also think that WR's jeremy is more MAD than SAD at the fact that he is a loser, and i think that's a really cool portrayal of the character!!!
will c's jeremy has awkward angsty anxiety energy and will r's has angry angsty anxiety energy sjdbjs and tho i like them both i do enjoy connolly's jeremy and generally the 2015 version more.
All the arguing between 2015 or 2019, while I’m sat here like what about the 2020 London version? I’m totally not biased since it’s the only one I got to see live because I’m British.
What did you think of it? I'm SO MAD they cut half of Loser Geek Whatever, getting back the end of Upgrade wasn't worth it and the "I'm tired of being the person that everyone thinks that I am" being sung only by Jeremy and Brooke and before Upgrade defeats the point of being something every character in the show feels and just seems random when they just start singing when it's not part of a song.
Lautaro Roldan Pizzorno Yeah when I was watching it I got confused because I was like wait that’s not how I remember it. But, honestly I really enjoyed it, I think the actors did a really good job in their roles, especially Scott Folan as Jeremy.
I honestly don't get why people don't like the Broadway version? I think, yeah, they exaggerated more in the characterization but this just made them with more personality for me; made easier for me to understand what were their feelings in the moment. And, like, it's a musical? Of course things will be overly exaggerated, overly everything, this is a thing I expect in this type of media. I also prefer the Broadway version because now I just think the Off-Broadway come out as... Kinda dull? I don't know the exact word (english isn't my first language) but it just doesn't have the same energy. I like things with more emotions, with more details, so I really prefer the Broadway one. PS: And Loser, Geek, Whatever it's a really good addition, so I couldn't ever complain! It adds so much to Jeremy's decision, and I love it! PS 2: I'm not, in any way, saying the Off-Broadway version is bad. On the contrary, I love that production with all my heart because it is the origin of one of my favorite musicals! (Note: not in question of quality, but mostly because of how happy listening to it makes me feel). I also pretty much like how Will Connolly portrayed Jeremy, so... I just have a preference and that's it.
I believe that what ruined this show was moving to Broadway. It’s main fandom is younger people, who can’t often see shows because of ticket prices, and other expenses. BMC has a big fan base, but a lot of that fan base can’t see the show, so it doesn’t do so well as shows that appeal to a wider fanbase.
I mean, do you mean the audience ruined its quality? I don't think that makes sense. Or do you mean it closed because fans couldn't afford tickets? Cause that's definitely true, no need to speculate
The second one, for sure. But also, moving a show that has a very “niche” fan base to Broadway is a risk, and this didn’t succeed. Generally, a show has to win Tonys, to continue on Broadway, and this show didn’t even get nominated. (That’s a whole other debate about the tonys). Be more chill is also a show that fits a smaller theatre, like off Broadway ones.
This show, with all due respect, did not do well. It fought valiantly, and it did have a wide fanbase, but putting a show like this, that just fits a smaller environment, on a big stage, isn’t always the best. In addition, prices on and off Broadway differ greatly. Shows that don’t appeal to the majority of theatre goers aren’t really successful. And the majority of Broadway goers are older, more well off people.
This video doesn't touch on the Squip but I ADORE Eric with all of my heart. Tbh he could play every role and that would be the best version. He has a voice that meshes perfectly with everything but still sounds unique - also, the role was written for and around him. I miss my handsome fluffy supercomputer. Jason Tam sounds like he's trying too hard.
I can say I do actually genuinely prefer Loser Geek Forever to the Upgrade solo- I just really like the song! I do think the recording used on this video of it doesn't do it justice, I feel like it shows Jeremy's mental dialogue and explains his motivations a lot better! I do still like the original solo, but I really like Loser Geek Forever lol
i feel like the original was more of that stereotypical high school loser and then the broadway version’s jeremy was more of that typical gen z teen i love both versions lol
I personally love the 2015 WAY more than the new one cause I PERSONALLY (don't attack me cause this is MY opinion not yours) cannot STAND will roland as Jeremy, he just irritates me so much.
If you don’t like the Broadway production, don’t listen :) but I think the best production was during the Off-Broadway one. Not in 2015, the one in 2018. It’s similar to the 2019 one in the way that it has an almost identical script but sync up isn’t in it and it has a few minor changes. It has the same actors as bway but it’s kinda different. Like people keep complaining about how they got rid of Michael’s personality and replaced it with gay (which they didn’t, by the way. His personality is still clearly there. He’s just less sarcastic, more kind, in some aspects of the show at least. And the ‘my mother’s would be thrilled’ thing in general is a way to try and make Jeremy feel better. And who knows? Maybe Michael’s mother’s would be excited at the prospect of them dating. Also while we’re on that topic, even if you see a community production of BMC most the time Michael will make a joke out of it or try and lighten the mood for Jeremy, I saw a production where he just hysterically laughs, so no, it wasn’t ruined for Broadway) but in off-Broadway it was a mix of 2015 Michael and 2019 Michael. And besides, it’s the easiest one to find a slime tutorial of.
I’m absolutely biased because I found BMC after DEH, but I like Will Roland’s Jeremy better. Don’t get me wrong, both Wills are talented, but I liked the vibe that the Broadway production had. Broadway Jeremy was unpopular and kind of angry about it, and that felt real to me. That’s just my opinion though.
Both productions are wonderful! I think the major difference is that the original 2015 production is more natural and real, while the 2018/19 broadway production is more animated/high-energy. For example, Will Connolly's Jeremy is very similar to how a real, awkward teenager would act, while Will Roland's Jeremy is more animated, more like a awkward teenager you'd find in a cartoon show. Eric William Morris' potrayal of the Squip is more professional and pure evil, while Jason Tam's potrayal of the Squip is very much stereotypical cool teenager. While still being the same show, both productions are immensely different but both are equally good! It just comes down to personal preference in the end. Personally, I prefer the Broadway production as I think the more animated acting is more interesting and funny, but I totally understand people who prefer the original production for its more realistic nature :)
I really like the broadway version, but Be more Chill part 1 used to be one of my favourite in the original version because I loved the Squips singing at the beginning and it made me mad when I heard the broadway version and he was just talking it
I enjoyed both soundtracks immensely. True, some of the changes in the Broadway version didn’t need to happen, but both have their weaknesses. I love ‘Sync Up’ from the Broadway version, and there were so many great moments; but overall, I think I’ll always prefer the original. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE both casts to death, I just think Will Roland was the wrong choice for Jeremy, and Michael was toned down. Again, I love both. ❤️
if there had been no 2015 cast or bmc had been a lesser known musical, i think the majority would love the 2019 cast. everyone already has their mind set on what they should sound like and look like, and the 2019 cast doesn't meet that expectation. in my personal opinion, the 2019 cast will always be my favorite (more songs, more diversity, more character development) and i hope it opens on broadway soon.
I'm curious, what do you people who don't like Will Roland think of Scott Folan as Jeremy? If you haven't heard him there's an audio on Tumblr (go to @spookysquip) and to me he sounds like a middle ground between the two Jeremy's. There's a similar middle ground with the SQUIP.
I have the full boot of Scott folan if you want it his accent is alright but he fits Jeremy sooo much when Jeremy turns into a cool hot popular guy it's mad no talented their Michael is sooo good the ensemble has 2\6 queen's from six the musical too ! Good cast
I feel like they felt pressured to change things once it got to pressure. I feel they didnt need to change much about they show but they got too carried away and changed too much :/ Dont fix what isnt broken
I saw the Off-Broadway (2018) production and LOVED it, but then after seeing the Broadway production I felt a lot of the changes they made were totally unnecessary. I love Will Roland's Jeremy and Tiffany Mann's Jenna (not Britton Smith's Jake but we won't talk about that), but the Broadway production made Michael way too much of a Stereotypical Feminine UwU Gay Boy™️ by making Michael overact him, sing in that nasally voice, and be happy as opposed to sarcastic when he says "My mothers would be thrilled". They also made Jake an I'm Not Like Other Jocks™️ and out way too much emphasis on how he has feelings too and isn't just your average cool kid. All in all, I prefer Off-Broadway (2018) to Broadway, and I prefer Broadway to Two River.
Im gonna say my opinion: I prefer the stage of 2019, the way the choreography is just amazes me, I loved the way they changed Rich and Jenna, love Smartphone hour, I really like Loser Geek Whatever, i will always adore Michael in the bathroom no matter what, but of course there’s things I dislike. I feel like Jeremy doesn’t fit Will Roland. Don’t get me wrong, WR is amazing! However, he fits more Sarcastic like characters (Jared from DEH for example). I like the new SQUIP, but even though he was trying to imitate Keanu’s accent, it didn’t sit right with me at all.
I watched the broadway version first and i’m kinda stubborn so I got used to it and its cast so I kinda prefer like Will Roland as Jeremy and I know that’s gonna piss a lot of people off but that’s what I’m used to and what Jeremy was formed into in my mind
i saw the London performance on the 1st of August (with Blake Patrick Anderson) i went in with high hopes because Be More Chill but i was blown away!! it was actually really incredible and i got an overall amazing feel for the whole show. i, personally, preferred Blake to George, he's mediocre at singing but he was a delight at acting! i even picked up a creeps shirt!!!
honestly - my main thing is jeremy. i don’t know what it is about will connolly but i just like his jeremy more. it seems more - authentic, raw, i guess? along with that, i feel like the 2015 production was more realistic. the actors weren’t milking their parts, which is what i feel like the 2019 version does. i like be more chill being more low key and excuse me, chill. however, i can understand how people like the broadway version more! maybe it’s my personal preferences or being introduced to 2015 first
I honestly love the 2015 one better but that’s probably because I was introduced to that one first and I have listened to it for 5 years and it has emotional significance. But both were amazing
From what I've listened to, I personally prefer the Broadway version. That being said, I haven't listened to much of the 2015 version because I got so hooked with the 2018 version, so I wasn't a fan of the differences. However, I'm sure both productions were amazing, everyone just has their preferences.
I honestly can’t tolerate the 2019 version. The show seemed to move sm faster and didn’t make sense and plus it lacked the character development for some characters that was given in the 2015 version. I miss the old songs like upgrade was my fav and they replaced it with a terrible song. The squips voice bothered me to no end and it seemed like there was less cast chemistry in the new one
People can argue about which production was better until the end of time, but there's one thing we can all agree on:
George Salazar is a God
Yes, Dionysus.
His voice is amazing
Yup, he’s amazing

I have to say, they gots to bring the 2015 cast back
Most of the 2015 cast did come back. The only exceptions are Jeremy, The SQUIP, Jenna, and Jake apart from them, this IS the 2015 cast
@@jodie8453 "the only exceptions are 2 of the main characters, Jenna and Jake" SJJS
The Squip sounds more like a teenager than Jeremy, and it over-all seems off, the pitiful children was absolutely BUTCHERED by this hhh-
Plus, no hate to Roland but Connolly's higher-pitched voice fits better for the role.
So of course it sounds like the whole cast was changed when the two most dominant voices were changed, is what i mean-
Ikr it's already 5 years ago since the 2015 be more chill
I think that the Broadway Cast lost the essence of the production, but well, at least we got George Salazar to keep the thing up...
True. In the original version, the cast felt like teenagers, but now it feels like a comedian group (No hate, it’s my opinion)
George Salazar is the best Michael I think most of us can agree on that
The only character switch I personally liked was Jenna. I don’t necessarily know how to explain why I didn’t really like 2015 Jenna, I just enjoyed 2018/2019’s Jenna more.
i love both sooo much, but the song/line changes from the original cast to the broadway production sometimes just,, ruins it for me. esp the cut lines from the squip song cuz i LOVED that part so much 😭
edit: OH YEAH AND THE FUCKING CHANGE IN INSTRUMENTAL IN MITB THAT ADDS THE VIBRATO.
I also enjoy Jason Tam's Squip (though I didn't like it at first, I got used to it.)
My point is I like both productions of it, and I don't really know why some people don't like the new one, but I respect their opinions.
For me personally:
It's not that I don't like it, I'm kinda scared of it I guess? I fell in love with the original and don't want to see any of my favorite parts be delivered without the same heavy emotions they had. When we look at Michael in the Bathroom, (to me at least) it seems much more flat in emotion compared to the original
Just my opinion 😳 don't @ me
Lizard I get what you mean, completely, but it’s still worth giving the Broadway album a chance. Even if you don’t like it, the original will still be there and won’t be changed. Just so long as you respect those who do like the Broadway version more than the original, or who like them equally
I kind of share your point of view:
I think that the original cast felt more natural and energetic. For example, in the squip song, the songs endured the same though they cutted the ¨Picture this¨ part, and Michael in the Bathroom felt less emotional. But still, since Brodway´s version had more budget the sound effects had better quality... Both are good, but i rather the original
I hate what they did to save the pitiful children. it makes me want to cry. Like why they gotta do him like that?
@@jackdasnaccproductions8437 I feel you u.u
The new one seemed too flashy and campy to me. I liked the original just because it was smaller and more tame while still having the right idea and energy.
I mean. Becoming more flashy and bigger makes since for upgrading to Broadway
(I know a lot of people love her character, but in 2019 it felt too exaggerated and unrealistic for me)
I think as they went to broadway, the overall story themes stayed the same, but so many small changes were made to the characters that they became oversaturated characitures of who they originally were meant to be.
I think they all overacted the roles not just the new cast members (but I actually really liked Jenna and I agree with Jeremy’s dad they were cool)
2015 will always be better in my opinion
Yup. Can’t beat the OG cast
Edit: I literally forgot that most of these people are the OG cast, but my point still stands.
I agree mostly because i like the original jeremy more than 2018/2019 jeremy. Also i love your adora profile picture ;-;
I agree because I simp for Jake Boyd and I miss him
If you listen to the broadway cast recording it’s really apparent how much synth they added to the instrumental and it almost sounds like it’s on midi where the off-broadway sounds more organic
I suppose the TRT one was originally more pop rock oriented, but then they went down more of an 80s esque edge with the costuming and the music for the broadway version
I love them both equally.
Because they both have George Salazar and I can’t complain

i personally think 2015 is better, it was more ‘acoustic’ which i thought made the songs more unique, i get that it makes sense for the music to be more mechanical because it’s a modern story, but in michael in the bathroom i can’t stand the new version because of the music, george salazar is amazing in both versions though!
Please just be considerate, these were/ are people who gave their all to put on the best shows possible.
well said.

This is the first thing I've watched from BMC ever so I have not got a bias, I liked them both though
Meri brooks It’s worth listening to both soundtracks in full, it’s not the same as watching them but its something. The bootleg of the 2015 version is easy to find, the 2019 version less so

A Veronica Sawyer-Heather Chandler Sandwich It has the general feel of a cash grab show I agree

Tbh loser geek whatever made me dislike Jeremy more cuz we saw what he thought about it and he knew what he was doing wrong and still did it

They made Jake SO much worse in Broadway. Loved everything else but the Jake changes?? 🤢
I can vibe with both.

This proves it isn’t bias, the OG fans are just… RIGHT. The new version sucks

UNPOPULAR OPINION: i think jason tam AND will roland BOTH fit the roles REALLY WELL. i personally like will roland and him as jared in deh, and jeremy in bmc. WR version of jeremy really shows the geeky side of jeremy. Did you see the London production by any chance?
Agreeeee I loved the original song
I like both :’) it just irks me how in making some of the songs more “shiny” they lost a bit of the original vibes (also jared i mean will roland is a lot more sarcastic energy but still great)
I love George Salazar, he is universally Micheal and nothing can change that
Even if I only got into BMC 2 months ago, I liked the 2015 version since that's the bootleg I watched first; WC is an amazing Jeremy and i might be biased bc WR has my heart but I also absolutely LOVE WR as Jeremy,, so imo 2015 is superior but the 2018/19 version is genuinely amazing; I was annoyed with how different Jeremy and the squip's voices were, but I eventually started to love them. Just like how I hated Loser, Geek, or Whatever the first few times I listened, but in all honestly, it might be my favorite song! Moral of the story, people have opinions and they can either stay, or change!
How did you watch it? I can’t find a full bootleg of 2015 bmc
All the hate for the Broadway version makes me sad because it's my fave-
Will Roland is my favorite Jeremy and always will be.
Don’t be sad. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion, including you. Both have incredibly talented actors and an incredibly talented crew. I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Don’t let it get you down, and have a lovely day! ^^
Same here :'
Just remember BMC as a story exists in a multiverse and all versions are valid!
same :””) I saw it on broadway and it was just fantastic, I don’t see why people hate the squip’s voice so much I think I sounds pretty cool and I love how Will Roland portrays Jeremy
Of course they had a larger budget, they went from a small theater in New Jersey to freakin Broadway.
I agree with everything but I agree with everyone else saying that Eric is better as the Squip.
I 100% agree
PREEEEEEECH
will c's jeremy has awkward angsty anxiety energy and will r's has angry angsty anxiety energy
sjdbjs and tho i like them both i do enjoy connolly's jeremy and generally the 2015 version more.
You put 2 Two Player Game title cards.
The second one should be called Two Player Game Minus One 🙁
@@choccy9852 Yeah, I love Scott so much
Why did rich have a beard in the London one
@@Blue-xt7kc I mean, it did last for a while on Broadway and a lot of people got to see it. There's a lot of value in that no matter when it closed
And the majority of Broadway goers are older, more well off people.
something I'll always hate is that they don't make the squip look like Keanu :'(
To be fair he looked more like him in bdway still not super accurate tho
This video doesn't touch on the Squip but I ADORE Eric with all of my heart. Tbh he could play every role and that would be the best version. I can say I do actually genuinely prefer Loser Geek Forever to the Upgrade solo- I just really like the song! I do think the recording used on this video of it doesn't do it justice, I feel like it shows Jeremy's mental dialogue and explains his motivations a lot better! YES YES and the outfit also kinda got worse,, the other one just fits him best
Unpopular opinion THE BROADWAY VERSION OF BE MORE CHILL IS AMAZING
I just have a celebrity crush on Will Roland so I'm extremely biased 😌✌️
No matter which production you like, we can all agree that Jeremy as somewhat neurodivergent
This is making me cry!
2015 cast
2019 set
Pam Beasley: They're the same picture.
oh my god i got a tic tac ad for this video
Will Connolly had the perfect voice for Jeremy.
My favorite is the London production, sadly it had to close:(((
Hopefully it will be back, there's still a probability of that
Really wish they would have made a recording of the original version 😢
I really like the broadway version, but Be more Chill part 1 used to be one of my favourite in the original version because I loved the Squips singing at the beginning and it made me mad when I heard the broadway version and he was just talking it
I always thought the line was “can’t twerk out in the way it works out in the play”....
if there had been no 2015 cast or bmc had been a lesser known musical, i think the majority would love the 2019 cast. everyone already has their mind set on what they should sound like and look like, and the 2019 cast doesn't meet that expectation. in my personal opinion, the 2019 cast will always be my favorite (more songs, more diversity, more character development) and i hope it opens on broadway soon.
spitting fax man
Yes, this right here.
tru
I'm curious, what do you people who don't like Will Roland think of Scott Folan as Jeremy? If you haven't heard him there's an audio on Tumblr (go to @spookysquip) and to me he sounds like a middle ground between the two Jeremy's. There's a similar middle ground with the SQUIP.
I have the full boot of Scott folan if you want it his accent is alright but he fits Jeremy sooo much when Jeremy turns into a cool hot popular guy it's mad no talented their Michael is sooo good the ensemble has 2\6 queen's from six the musical too ! Good cast
@@joyisadaniel8489 You have a video bootleg?
Lautaro Roldan Pizzorno yep! I think it’s on TH-cam too look up be more chill London then scroll a bit
@@joyisadaniel8489 I saw it, it's NFT so it shouldn't be shared
@@joyisadaniel8489 yo can u hmu with that bootleg if it isn't nft? i checked on tumblr and i think op's fine with it? not sure tho
I feel like they felt pressured to change things once it got to pressure. I feel they didnt need to change much about they show but they got too carried away and changed too much :/
Dont fix what isnt broken
Everyone: oh yes I love both but this is definitely is my favorite...

Im gonna say my opinion:
I prefer the stage of 2019, the way the choreography is just amazes me, I loved the way they changed Rich and Jenna, love Smartphone hour, I really like Loser Geek Whatever, i will always adore Michael in the bathroom no matter what, but of course there’s things I dislike.
I feel like Jeremy doesn’t fit Will Roland. Don’t get me wrong, WR is amazing! However, he fits more Sarcastic like characters (Jared from DEH for example). I like the new SQUIP, but even though he was trying to imitate Keanu’s accent, it didn’t sit right with me at all.
it’s understandable if people like one more than the other but it’s not okay to just hate on the actors of the one you don’t like :(
I watched the broadway version first and i’m kinda stubborn so I got used to it and its cast so I kinda prefer like Will Roland as Jeremy and I know that’s gonna piss a lot of people off but that’s what I’m used to and what Jeremy was formed into in my mind
*_me not caring about the casts and which is better_*
Hey, is that the slime tutorials my friends send to me ?? Thats so good
2019 is my fav
I feel like the extra time to make it greater really shows!
2015 is my fave
How. Explain like I'm 5
taliagmail. com eidjdjfjfj idk i just thought it was better
i saw the London performance on the 1st of August (with Blake Patrick Anderson) i went in with high hopes because Be More Chill but i was blown away!! it was actually really incredible and i got an overall amazing feel for the whole show. i, personally, preferred Blake to George, he's mediocre at singing but he was a delight at acting! i even picked up a creeps shirt!!!
honestly - my main thing is jeremy. i don’t know what it is about will connolly but i just like his jeremy more. it seems more - authentic, raw, i guess? along with that, i feel like the 2015 production was more realistic. the actors weren’t milking their parts, which is what i feel like the 2019 version does. i like be more chill being more low key and excuse me, chill. however, i can understand how people like the broadway version more! maybe it’s my personal preferences or being introduced to 2015 first
i saw BMC on broadway with a friend, but i will always love the original
I honestly love the 2015 one better but that’s probably because I was introduced to that one first and I have listened to it for 5 years and it has emotional significance. But both were amazing
From what I've listened to, I personally prefer the Broadway version. That being said, I haven't listened to much of the 2015 version because I got so hooked with the 2018 version, so I wasn't a fan of the differences. However, I'm sure both productions were amazing, everyone just has their preferences.
Lets just wait for a bootleg of the west end one 👀
I'm SO excited to watch it once the NFT date passes!
I didn’t realize just how much I hate Will Roland’s Jeremy til I saw the More than Survive comparisons
thank god im not the only hater, he sounds like a freaking cartoon character (in the worst way)
I'm a simple person, i see BMC and i click
I really think that the West-end version is gonna be an amazing mix of both the off and on broadway
Good video but this just made me depressed that I will never get to see it live.
I really think the OBC got too much hate. It was different, sure, but I liked a lot of the changes tbh.
Definitely like the original cast more... however the Broadway set was way cooler. I would have loved to see OG cast make it all the way to Broadway
2015 production is superior
I honestly can’t tolerate the 2019 version. The show seemed to move sm faster and didn’t make sense and plus it lacked the character development for some characters that was given in the 2015 version. I miss the old songs like upgrade was my fav and they replaced it with a terrible song. The squips voice bothered me to no end and it seemed like there was less cast chemistry in the new one
the music at the beginning was frankly inspired.
