There may be a bunch of people who haven't Played the game claiming the story sucks and it saved them $60; but there are plenty of people who have played the game and called the story amazing and thought provoking. I feel like people just need to actually experience the game personally and not jump the gun with their opinions. Metal Gear Solid 2's story also sounds like a fuck you to the first game out of context; but if you actually play it and understand what the game is trying to say it's a masterpiece.

I think you need to look up what constitutes as fan-fiction. Fan-fiction is when an author breaks established rules within the world they're writing in in order to appease a fanbase....nothing about these leaks fit that description. These leaks suggest a cold and merciless story about the consequences of hate as well as the consequences of previous decisions. The characters that we know die in TLoU 2 get a similar gruesome death as every other character we've seen die thus far. -- Sarah gets killed by a soldier working for a government that was suppose to protect her. -- Tess gets bitten and then gunned down. -- Sam gets bitten, turns and forces Henry to kill him. -- Henry kills himself over the guilt of killing his own brother. -- David gets butchered by a 14 year old. -- Marlene gets gunned down execution style for trying to save the human race. In what way do the leaks suggest a deviation from the cruel rules of the world established by the first game?? SPOILERS AHEAD: -- Joel gets his head bashed in with a golf club by the child of someone he killed years prior. Nothing about this screams "fan-fiction". It follows the same rules as in TLoU 1. It can EASILY fit with the deaths I listed above. I realize there are more leaks than just Joel's death, but honestly I could make the same argument about how those fit within the same rules as well so I won't even bother. I just singled out Joel's spoiler because it seems to be the one most people are complaining about.

When you write a fanfic you have no idea if anyone will actually like it or even want to read it, unless you're writing some gigantic fandom approved prompt everyone is asking for...and yeah, that doesn't really happen. In other words, fanfic is more for the benefit of the author than the reader - the readers like it too? Then it's a win-win. If these leaks were just a fanfic then all would be good - because a fanfic is just a fun way to explore more of the world and characters you like and in different ways. You don't like it, you don't read it and most importantly, it's not canon. This is where the leaks get disturbing, because they portray an illogical, downright insulting developement of the story and characters that you wouldn't really expect from the original material - but rather from someone's fanfic. It's season 8 of GOT all over again - good old case of bad writing.

If that shit had leaked gamers would have responded something like, "So we play the entire game trying to find a cure and in the end Joel chooses to save one life over millions!? No, that's dumb, I'm cancelling my pre-order". They would have made a snap judgement over an incomplete narrative that they were told about by someone else, but if they'd waited and played the game they'd have realized the situation wasn't so black and white. It would have been ILLOGICAL to judge the game based on little tidbits while ignoring the fact that there's an entire game worth of context that they'd be ignoring simply because they didn't like the way the ending sounded on paper.

I did, i loved the gameplay the first half of the story except papa Joel, but i hate abbys whole segment and I felt nothing for her even after they tried to make Ellie bad and abby seem good she deserves to die worse then Joel did. I didn't get spoiled and lost my breath when Joel died. I kept thinking something was going to happen to stop it. I hated Abby like everyone else and was resistant to playing her and feeling a connection with her. I do not get the hate on this game; I thought it was brilliant. Ellie and Abby are so alike, and when I was fighting Ellie as Abby and Abby as Ellie, I thought the same thing: Please don't make me kill myself. I'd bonded enough with both that I literally didn't know who to root for anymore and killing either felt like killing a part of me. I do wish Ellie could have finished what she started with Joel and go with Abby to the Fireflies to hopefully find another gifted doctor who could make a vaccine and sacrifice herself for the greater good or whatever meaning she felt she could get from that. It would have been the happiest possible ending for her.
i feel bad for people who got spoiled, i stayed away from all spoilers, so the game was a roller coaster of emotions, i really like the game, at first i did not like Abby as she killed joel but she grew on me at the end and i did not want to kill her at the end, i was pressing O to try stop lol, i felt bad, but i'm glad how it ended, i would of liked a more happy ending for ellie but it was good.

Ellie almost gets killed but her GF saves her she is also almost killed before Ellie says she is pregnant, to which out beloved protagonist says "Good" and goes for the kill anyway but is stopped by a kid. Not sure that is where it ends but that is most likely furthest point in the story. Joel killed tons of people but some random NPC doctors child is out for killing him and succeeds. This is bad writing. If anything they could have copy pasted Lee Everett's death from TWD Season 1 and it would still make more sense in context of the TLOU Joe prevented a cure for the disease by killing fireflies and he dies because of the very disease he could have cured. The release game’s story was so much worse than I imagined. I expected gratuity, but it goes too far and reaches into the realms of perversion and sadism. I was really hoping that it would be more focused on Joel's lie to Ellie and how she slowly forgives and regains trust with him over the course of the game. And for a game about a post apocalyptic world filled with mutated and infected enemies, there seems to be very little story focus on the infected themselves.

Justin Time before the shut down, I went to the gym daily. There are not a lot, but there are women with that type of build. Personally, I’m not buying it because I just wanted to play Joel. I played TLOU at least once a year, the expansion once overall. I thought that Abby was going to be a flash back character like Ellie’s mother and we were going to find out something about her immunity.

Joel is the villain, at the end of the first game he kills the surgeons and takes Ellie (who has the cure to the disease). Joel effectively doomed all of humanity over 1 child’s life (a hard choice). The sequel shows his decision coming back to haunt him!
But thats not how it works in the real world, and thats what they are trying to show. Joel dies like everyone else, its a shock for the players, and makes it personal for the players.

This is the same analogy that came to my mind. Imagine you have to read an alternating PoV fantasy series where the chapters are consistently about characters you hate? That’s not really a fair comparison since those franchises are widely different. A better comparison would be if Lee was beaten with a golf club by whoever is considered the main villain (I forgot who they were) in the Walking Dead. Instead of sacrificing his life to save Clementine and having a chance to say goodbye in a touching farewell.

@Miguel Mauro Vision's death was more of a result of the movie's theme, sacrifice. It's the leading cause to the Avenger's defeat in IW from Vision's deisre to sacrifice not fully being realized until it was too late, and what they eventually use to win in Endgame from Black Widow's death. According to TLOU 2's leaks, their theme of revenge is poorly executed from a writing and story structure perspective.

Exactly i expected joel to die and it carry on ellies story to push into 3 say he sacrifices himself saving ellie. Then ellie goes off and the third game is ellie hunting down joels killers for the revenge cycle or have a road to redemption arc for ellie where she believes if she doesnt hunt joels killers the cycle will die but at the end she accidently kills somone then that persons group go on the hunt for ellie bringing the cycle back and never escaping it

Except for the developers waiting for their promised bonus - by delaying the game indefinitely, ND screwed them over (remind you - their argument of wanting "everyone to receive the game on time" is practically void when there is the option of digital sales, it only holds for special editions/ collecttors editions they wanted to cash in on). Now that the hype is pretty much dead, sales will be lower than expected, some preorders being cacelled, therefore the promised-but-delayed-bonuses are also gone.

My idea for a God of War sequel: Kratos gets his skull caved in within the first few hours by the daughter of some rando you killed in the last game. Then you play as Atreus for a few hours. Then you play the last half of the game as the woman that killed Kratos. Also, Atreus' sections are 60% teen relationship drama.

I think you need to look up what constitutes as fan-fiction. Fan-fiction is when an author breaks established rules within the world they're writing in in order to appease a fanbase....nothing about these leaks fit that description.
These leaks suggest a cold and merciless story about the consequences of hate as well as the consequences of previous decisions. The characters that we know die in TLoU 2 get a similar gruesome death as every other character we've seen die thus far.
-- Sarah gets killed by a soldier working for a government that was suppose to protect her.
-- Tess gets bitten and then gunned down.
-- Sam gets bitten, turns and forces Henry to kill him.
-- Henry kills himself over the guilt of killing his own brother.
-- David gets butchered by a 14 year old.
-- Marlene gets gunned down execution style for trying to save the human race.
In what way do the leaks suggest a deviation from the cruel rules of the world established by the first game??
SPOILERS AHEAD:
-- Joel gets his head bashed in with a golf club by the child of someone he killed years prior.
Nothing about this screams "fan-fiction". It follows the same rules as in TLoU 1. It can EASILY fit with the deaths I listed above.
I realize there are more leaks than just Joel's death, but honestly I could make the same argument about how those fit within the same rules as well so I won't even bother. I just singled out Joel's spoiler because it seems to be the one most people are complaining about.

You don't like it, you don't read it and most importantly, it's not canon. This is where the leaks get disturbing, because they portray an illogical, downright insulting developement of the story and characters that you wouldn't really expect from the original material - but rather from someone's fanfic. It's season 8 of GOT all over again - good old case of bad writing.

Imagine if when the original game was about to release the ending was leaked weeks prior and all we were given were a few images and a leaker describing the ending as "Joel kills everyone in the Firefly base and chooses to protect the girl over finding a cure for humanity". If that shit had leaked gamers would have responded something like, "So we play the entire game trying to find a cure and in the end Joel chooses to save one life over millions!? No, that's dumb, I'm cancelling my pre-order". They would have made a snap judgement over an incomplete narrative that they were told about by someone else, but if they'd waited and played the game they'd have realized the situation wasn't so black and white.
It would have been ILLOGICAL to judge the game based on little tidbits while ignoring the fact that there's an entire game worth of context that they'd be ignoring simply because they didn't like the way the ending sounded on paper.

I didn't get spoiled and lost my breath when Joel died. I kept thinking something was going to happen to stop it. I hated Abby like everyone else and was resistant to playing her and feeling a connection with her. I do not get the hate on this game; I thought it was brilliant. Ellie and Abby are so alike, and when I was fighting Ellie as Abby and Abby as Ellie, I thought the same thing: Please don't make me kill myself. I'd bonded enough with both that I literally didn't know who to root for anymore and killing either felt like killing a part of me.
I do wish Ellie could have finished what she started with Joel and go with Abby to the Fireflies to hopefully find another gifted doctor who could make a vaccine and sacrifice herself for the greater good or whatever meaning she felt she could get from that. It would have been the happiest possible ending for her.

How much more stupid can the story get? Well it does. Ellie almost gets killed but her GF saves her she is also almost killed before Ellie says she is pregnant, to which out beloved protagonist says "Good" and goes for the kill anyway but is stopped by a kid. Not sure that is where it ends but that is most likely furthest point in the story. Joel killed tons of people but some random NPC doctors child is out for killing him and succeeds. This is bad writing. If anything they could have copy pasted Lee Everett's death from TWD Season 1 and it would still make more sense in context of the TLOU Joe prevented a cure for the disease by killing fireflies and he dies because of the very disease he could have cured. Still makes more sense.

The release game’s story was so much worse than I imagined. I expected gratuity, but it goes too far and reaches into the realms of perversion and sadism. And then you don’t even get a payoff at the ending, making the 20 hours and the story of the original basically pointless as Ellie’s life leads to nothing.

There are not a lot of areas where aggressive backseat driving is appreciated or terribly helpful.

I was really hoping that it would be more focused on Joel's lie to Ellie and how she slowly forgives and regains trust with him over the course of the game. Yea thats how you killoff such aloveable character, atelast make it heroic and actually worth something and make it emotional makes all the effort we give to TLOU part 1 was rewarded, not just some golf club beating in the middle of the game and didn't really do much of the story. Plus we have to play as the killer, how tf people will have an empathy for her, i rather makes her killed and don't olay the game knowing i will lead her to kill ellie.
