    Huge gain! I would not have gone through the expense and time for it; there are so many things animation can do to bring a point home and having 3 cameras on the spot helps big time; everything in the last 15 years of my good to great teaching is done in priority sequence and the most important part (once you get the feel of the swing down) THE FOCUS SEQUENCE AND OBSERVATION SEQUENCE and WORKING THE BALL is done to my full satisfaction with important animation and overhead cameras.

    WOW! Shawn, I am completely blown away by the results I have achieved in less than 2 weeks of watching your videos. I was playing to a 24 handicap and my last 3 scores have been in the low 80's. Yesterday I was 2 over after nine and finished with an 82 with 2 triples (hitting the ball to far over the green). I cant thank you enough. The grip and closed club face is what made it all click for me. It was difficult to imagine that having a closed face at setup would result in straight shots. Once my mind quit thinking about it and I just let it happen the results were tremendous. Once again thank you. I was just about to quit the game, now I EXPECT to break 80.

      Awesome stuff! After you get over everyone calling you a sand bagger for faking your 24 handicap (LOL) you definitely can get down to business and continue to enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole as I am sure, as you stated above, that you left a lot of the table and have this feeling and craving of anticipation for the next round and can't wait to see what happens! THIS IS WHY I PLAY, and this is how golf should be for everyone. Thanks so much for the comment, means a lot!

    Great video! This one was taylormade just for me. This cleared up so much of why I consistently push and slice the ball to the right. Love the in depth anatomical perspective you bring to the swing. It really really clarifies a lot. Keep crankin out the good videos

    Shawn...you have just blown my mind. I've been struggling with the proper release, and losing significant power, and yes, it's because I take that neutral grip, and indeed I must release early in order to not shank the ball. I think this will really help; can't WAIT to try it on the range! Thank you!

    I bought the dvd last week. Well worth it in my opinion. A hell of a lot of footage, and a lot of it is very specific and in depth. I've bought a lot of tutorial dvds and this is by far the best value for money of any of them.

    You sir, are a genius! This whole time, after watching your videos, I've realized that I have been casting the club all along. I thought that I was lagging the club head but was never able to take a divot even with a wedge as the club would usually slide under the ball. You broke it down and explained in a way that is easy to understand. Now I'm not hooking the ball or hitting thin shots. I've moved the ball back more in my stance, slightly open and feel that I am driving towards the target and compressing it. Inconsistency was my biggest issue.
    Keep these videos coming.

    Wow! This makes so much sense. I'm a senior golfer and I have good rhythm and a smooth swing. I never try to over-power the ball but have been constantly hitting my balls with a push fade. To compensate for this, I have held off my release and then the ball goes left with a fade. The ball starts left of my target line and leaks to the right in a weak fashion. Armed with your explanations, I can't wait to hit the practice range and course. Thank you so much for your information. Happy golfing!

    Yes, stay in tune with the direction you want to release the club as well as the amount of strain you are using to release it out there! Should be 1-3 out of 10 for strain to get 7-8 out of 10 for velocity; EFFORTLESS AND RIDICULOUSLY EASY! Feel like you are hitting the driver 175 with full range of motion and full release to target; of course, you will hit it farther but that is the feel you are looking for.

    Wow...you really nailed this one (puns intended!) Seriously, this is the video that did it for me. I have to admit. I was one of those people who felt you had to have a neutral or weak grip because that's what Hogan had. I first saw your video on weak vs strong grip, and that whet my appetite. And now this video made me a true believer. I cannot believe how pure I hit it now. Here is my only question: why do so many good instructors teach the neutral/weak grip?

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You want to cut across the grass and ground and not hit down to the ball; when you release at the ball, you come automatically over the top and your angle of attack is too steep and you gauge the ground unnecessarily; stay focused on the target and get the feel of a target bound release such as the "fencing for power shawn clement" video and the "Lag and head position shawn clement"

    This is the best tip I have ever utilized in my golf game my ball flight is so much different now and I hit everything very flush. When I meet the ball on my downswing I know my right hand will be in the same position I addressed the ball at no matter what which also gives me confidence in swinging.

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes; once you have the hands on the club and don"t allow the grip to move inside the hands, the relationship you have is always the same; whether you turn the hands and forearms to a "weaker position" the clubface is till in the same "relationship" with the hands; This is why I use the same grip formation on the club but open the face to a more square position for the fade and keep it closed for the draw; like a tennis player who uses a different grip for top spin vs cut spin.

    Shawn this is it right here. I figured this out months ago. But only thing people want to teach is too much wrist movements too many other things. If you start off strong you can work on swing plane. I’d suggest a single swing plane back and through. Slightly closed stance slightly closed shoulders

  • @Eric-ic7im
    @Eric-ic7im 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can't believe this isn't being taught more. I'd say this and releasing towards the target is are the main reasons most amateurs push-slice and lose all their power. We're taught to set-up square, feel instinctively the way to get power to the swing and deliver it, and wham we're wide-open at impact. The only way to fix it is to swing without that power. It's even worse because it's reinforced when those glancing blows with huge slices look like they hit shorter than the easy swings. Thanks!

  • @golflessons
    @golflessons  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Confirm first that you are in a tilted position that allows you to swing towards the target; then all you need to do is to stay in this feel during the whole swing; that means that at any point during the swing you could stop and than ask if you were to let the arms fall, that they would swing out towards the target on their own. See "tilt acid test shawn clement" and "lag and head position shawn clement"

My irons are starting to have the crisp contact now but I still am having trouble off the tee with the driver. I have no clue why and it gets frustrating because I know I can hit it well. Shawn, I love this principle and when I use a strong grip I absolutely pound it and nowhere weak slice or fade. However, sometimes my left wrist gets sore when I use a strong grip. Is my grip too strong or am I doing something else wrong to make my left wrist sore? Thanks for all your great videos.

    First. Thank u Shawn! After watching many of your videos I think I'm starting to understand how the mind and body should work :)
    And in regards to this video:
    Holy shit, I think I get it now. 1. Close the head. 2a. Twist the ACU a bit (so I see more knuckles and more of the right forearm. 2b. Get behind the ball with a nice brace against the left side. 3. Throw back dat club and let it get thrown towards the target. Feels like the "twist" of the ACU really helps the entire body to get that automatic lag (and gives an even better "hammering position") and it feels like momentum is increased as well as it is easier to "get out of the way".
    With "twist" I only mean a subtle correction so that one can hammer the nail with the left hand and slice the melon or bamboo shoot with the right hand at the same time. And that you see the top of the right hands middle finger and ring finger.
    Do you think I'm on the right path? :)

    Great analysis!
    I used to hit balls with my right arm in slapping motion.
    Actually, It worked well but now I have corrected it to hitting position.
    Took me a while to get used to it.
    The big advantage I found with this is that,it cured my occasional slices with the driver.
    But now I am occasionally hooking it!

    • @WisdominGolfPremium
      @WisdominGolfPremium 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you hook it, rewind back to the original focus before you pulled the trigger: were you focused on releasing to your target or were you getting ready to hit the ball? If you release at the ball, you will hook.

    You would need to confirm that you are releasing fully without holding on or steering the club to your targets; see "fencing for power shawn clement" "hammer through shawn clement" and "how arms and club release shawn..."
    Allow for the weight of the club head to fully release your hands wrists and forearms past the ball towards the target. Shawn

    May not work for some and maybe considered wrong but my trail hand underneath I point my thumbprint where I want the ball. I went from driving 220 with massive 100 yard at times slice to a straight ball. I drive 275 and have gotten up to a 315 carry at times. I just don’t think people should worry about the release of the wrists though it’s going to cause 90 percent of people to low hook. If you get that right hand back like you’re waiting a table you really can smack it

    Shawn, isn't the motion of the lower arm dictated by the elbow-hinge which can only move in one plane, rather than the two bones connected that allow the lower arm to rotate ?
    You tilt the body and use the shoulder to change that plane to more horizontal so you need less rotation of that arm.
    That way the natural position of the muscles in the underarm is maintained, which is the position in which they are the strongest an can deliver most power, as well as hold the bones together when they flex

  • @gojipoj

    Hi Shawn, it's been a while, hope you're well. This method makes a lot of sense for getting power and compression. Why don't the coaches teach this grip or style, is it because as you nicely put it not fashionable. Do the pros use this style, I am keen to try it. Cheers.

      We are continuing to blaze a trail where Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin and the best swings of that era left off before video analysis ruined the game for so many!! I grip both hands neutral to lightly strong. My miss is a slice - or basically the slice is my standard shot. What blows my mind: my Pro gave advice to leave the grip as it is, but turn/rotate the club in my hands so the face is open at address. What happens? My brain tells me the open face will slice the ball, and my body automatically adjusts to counteract. It works. I just can't find the time to put enough repetitions in to have this counteract motion become my new standard. I guess that is the goal... Once I start to draw or hook the ball, I could change back to a neutral club face and should have quite straight shots with the compensation my body learned. Golf is crazy, but I love it.

    Oh, that's why I couldn't get 60% of my weight on my front foot and had trouble compressing for long hits, I had a neutral grip. Your body shape naturally forms around the grip and a neutral grip puts more weight on your back foot. Then you have to get that weight forward to finish the swing, an extra step, sometimes fat shots. But using Shawn's grip, no problem! Bam!

      No worries about that; as long as you feel behind the ball; if the shot is a draw, you would get more behind and for fade you play the ball forward so you are already behind the ball; see “hit a draw shawn clement”

    Shawn, I notice that as I'm working on my swing(just started playing a few months ago), that I can use a very strong grip and hit a solid flight path more consistently, but as my flexibility increases I tend to get a better rotation and will tend to hook more. While I'm happier than my old slice, should I be adjusting my grip during a round or are there steps I should take pre-round that will help get a better rotation or flexibility?

      Can be one of the other; strong grip with square face; slightly strong grip with slightly closed face or neutral grip with very closed face; what matters is what it looks like through impact when you are letting the club release you to the target!

  • @davidtheobald502
    @davidtheobald502 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn’t another reason for the ball going hard left is ball position? If the ball is beyond center stance, and you have a strong grip I would think you’d get the ball to start left and go left-er.
    When you think “swing to the target” is it swing to the place you want the ball to end up or is it swing to the starting line right of the “real” target?

  • @slatt33
    @slatt33 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shawn, is it okay for me to simply square the club face to the target at address and then just apply a strong grip? I guess I am getting confused with the process of having to...well, you said close the face (while you were holding the club of the ground) and then get back to square at set up. I feel more of a need to get the club on the ground behind the ball, square face target, and then apply a strong grip.

    Hi Shawn, so should I try a more stronger grip on my right hand in order to hit the ball like youre saying? Cheers

    Is your club shaft inline with your left arm at address? From shoulder to club head it appears like its one straight line.

    Great video Shawn, I just want to know do you start out with the right hand grip(right handers) with the right hand strong?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better to place left hand on the club first; then right as the hand needs to cover the left thumb! See "grip and wrist hinge shawn clement" and "grip and compression shawn clement"

  • @hallgd49
    @hallgd49 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Shawn for the quick response. I saw grip and compression, and I was still confused because you said that the left thumb again for righthander needs to be directly on top of the shaft for control, now if I did that then put my right hand on that's more over to the right(strong) then I have a weak left hand grip, and a strong right handed grip. They would be opposed to one another right?

      When you see grip and wrist hinge again, you will see that I show the left thumb coming from a 1:00 position to a 12:00 position for the tip of the thumb; see my "dude, stop destroying your golf glove" for more! :)

    Is it ok to have a strong left hand 3 knuckle with v pointing at right shoulder and a weak right hand with the v pointing more towards the chin?

    • @thehappyroman1
      @thehappyroman1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      EDTHEWATERGUY Not really. You want the hands to mirror each other so that the snuff boxes are orientated in the same way. This allows the hands to hinge and unhinge in unison. You want the hands to work as a single unit. If they are orientated in the manner you describe, they won't be able to work together. Whichever hand is your dominant hand will likely take over and cause issues.

    Hi Shawn. How does the closed clubface set up work with the driver?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same way! When you swing in the direction you want to start the ball, and the ball goes there, you have the right combo; it can vary from one club manufacturer to another; some drivers more closed some less.

      Have you watched "high draw driver shawn clement" video? The feel is "ball on a string shawn clement" and most golfers really don't close the face enough at address! See "weak grip vs strong grip shawn clement" as well as "farm hammer shawn clement" which will get you a great picture mentally!

    Allow me to be blunt and to the point! You are the best teacher ever!!you have all the rest, then we have my new online teacher Shawn there teachings is so absurd that it almost feels like a unified conspiracy to keep all amateurs Clueless and confused!kinda like the state we are in under the New World Order tyranny (not to worry they have finally met there match!2023 will be awesome! Hang tight)in order to make sure millions of balls are sold annually and millions of doll hairs are spent on lessons annually (or petrodollars,no difference,both worth barely worth the substance they are made of🤓)then we have you!first time I played I was 29, I was taught a couple basic things and one was the grip,the man who taught me the correct grip and how to apply it to the swing demonstrated an identical swing like this video,so I was like a baby who has yet to be poisoned by all the insanity of the world.I drew the ball I kept it simple and played a fun and uncomplicated round.Needless you say but I will say it anyway😁I was hooked and started to play,then everyone I played with “was a teacher”that was teaching a subject they were not good at at! Destroying any potential I may have had! Fast forward many years I decide to pick up the game again,found you online in July of 2022 and the very first time I played I was reminded of the man who showed me the true and effective basics!! I shall keep you posted,I hope that someone i your academy will read my comment,I shall also show my appreciation by contributing to your channel.Thank You Very Kindly.PS we are going through sone tough time,Canadians and by now all mankind alike! Let your soul be easy! We are winning and soon TNWO/Cabal/DS, call them any fancy name you like,I call them criminals!WILL BE CRUSHED TO OBLIVION!🙏✌🏼
