Why You Shouldn’t Drop Your Arms In The Downswing (Do This Instead!)

  • Do you feel stuck in your golf swing, with your right elbow trapped? Maybe the easy fix is you shouldn't drop your arms in the downswing!
    **Unlock a Rotational Golf Swing HERE** milolinesgolf....
    If you've been told in the past to drop your arms to start your downswing, perhaps this ingredient is creating a recipe for disaster in your swing. Oftentimes when we see students lower their arms out of the top this can get the right elbow in golf swing stuck behind the seam line. This typically couples with an excessive in-to-out path and major low point issues! In this video, Henry and Milo will share with you their preferred method to creating the necessary "down" in the swing without getting stuck, and without too much dropping, or lowering the arms. A special thank you as well to George Gankas for sending us his awesome GBOX training aid, which comes in great handy for this fix and video! We hope you enjoy and welcome your feedback.

    What I love about these instructors is that they present their preferences without stating it's an absolute.....which makes zero sense in golf. There are few absolutes in something that can have so many different combinations.(ie Furyk/Garcia).

    Milo, as a former baseball player I’ve been putting your videos into practice and have found the concepts very transferable. It seems to make more sense in my brain that way or perhaps it’s my muscle memory. I’m reading these other comments and trying to understand why a “baseball swing” in the correct golf plane isn’t ideal. Because I will say when I watch the tape back, my reference points always seem to be in better positions and my swing simultaneously feels more natural and athletic 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Milo, for a while now I’ve practiced on turning the club face down (feeling like I twist the grip counterclockwise) to compress the ball but I feel like my body stalls through impact and I can’t get through. Then when I feel like I twist the grip in a clockwise motion (hitter style pattern) I’m able open up but then my club face is wide open… how do I blend the 2?

  • @Hoganwantabe
    @Hoganwantabe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I encourage the viewer to watch the motion around 6:41ish. The arms/elbows, indeed, do drop. The shaft moves from a steeper backswing plane back to the original address shaft plane…blended with body rotation. This is the classic pro-shallowing of the club. Koepka, DJ, and even Trevino do/did this. Rham does it without the steep backswing. But again, the arms indeed do drop in front of the chest. Tiger dropped his arms in his youth (watch old footage with Butch). Thankfully, he’s found his way back to this technique. Tiger’s shaft angles are very stable today. You won’t see much re-routing… that is the steep backswing to shallowed out downswing. Watch current film of him. Also Adam Scott. Super-stable shaft angles. That’s why his swing is so pretty.

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have different definitions of dropping the arms.

    • @Hoganwantabe
      @Hoganwantabe 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct. We do have different definitions about what it means to drop the arms. What you demonstrate at 9:14ish about dropping the arms is NOT even close to what I’m trying to say regarding this. That’s why I encourage viewers to watch the likes of players I’ve mentioned. How about two more: Justin Rose (shares his feel vs. real swing drill), and Luke Donald (Grexa Golf instruction). Justin clearly states dropping his arms, and Luke’s elbows stay VERY level during his “drop.” There is certainly more to it than just the drop, but their arms do drop. I just want to clear that up. Your demonstration is not what I advocate.

    The subtlety of the shoulder movements at 3:19 is something I have not seen before. It seems the right shoulder drops under the plane and a little further from the right ear and little closer to the ball. Simultaneously the left shoulder raises above the plane, a little closer to the left ear and further from the ball. I would love to see this discussed in more detail.

    Not a fan of George Gankas. No one on Tour, and I mean no one, does that signature lower body Gankas move in transition (right knee works external as the left knee spins around). I also disagree regarding the arms. The arms do drop as the body pivots. The problem with emphasizing the hands and arms going out towards the ball is that movement usually steepens the club and it pitches out way over plane that causes a lot of pulls and slice cuts.

    • @MiloLinesGolf

    @tomkoss07 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Of course a baseball swing doesn’t drop down…you’re hitting a ball that is much higher than the ground (hopefully😂).
    GEARS shows that virtually every great ball striker drops/lowers their arms, re-attaching the trail arm to their rib cage! When you demo the “drop,” you don’t rotate your torso or lower body at all. That’s what gets the arms coming out and around. When you then demo your preference, the hips and torso do rotate, so it’s a flawed demo. Again, GEARS can isolate the movements of every part of the swing and clearly shows the downward move (relative to the torso) of both arms!!!

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A baseball swing at a low pitch is on just as steep a plane as a golf swing. I have a problem with attempting to isolate movements. No joint or segment moves in isolation in any dynamic motion that line of thinking is reductionist and generally not helpful.

      Attached perhaps, but where in relation to your side / seam line? Many we find get it trapped with what you are describing. If you do it properly, your right elbow would be tucked in and not get flaired out like in this video. This is the move that SO MANY tour players use. Everyone has different way of shallowing clubs, like lowering hands, supanate wrist on top, lowering shoulder(side bend), tucking right elbow(like in this video). That's why i pointed out in the video, it felt misleading because he lowered hands in wrong way
