  • When something like this happens to you on KTM 300 2023 , it always surprises you. The problem is really big and very expensive, so it will take some time to save money and fix this.

After uploading the first video, I received many messages from people that they experienced the same problem with their 2023 model, now I don't know if the cause is the new KYMCO cylinder. Also, the S3 low compression head caught the attention of many people, and they ask me if it happened because of her. I wouldn't say, with it even the life of the engine should be extended because it creates less compression, there is less resistance and the whole machine becomes more relaxed. If I had installed the S3 high compression head, then it would have been the other way around, then it would probably have caused the rings to get weaker sooner on the piston. But certainly, it wouldn't cause the piston to blow up.

This is obviously a bad material used for production, because the same problem is repeated on several engines. Which means that I didn't just have bad luck, but that there is something hidden there that we don't know yet. I want to work on this topic a little deeper and find out what happened to the KTM EXC300 TPI 2023, because the same engine is used in the KTM XC-W300 2023, so that is important for many people in USA also. I would like the most if this happened only to me and it was my fault, so that all the other riders don't have to worry about this. We riders must stick together, and if there really is a problem, let's divide it among ourselves and try to find a solution to prevent this problem in time, when we save one KTM TPI 2023 RIDER from this happening to him, I think we have succeeded a lot. Because parts are expensive and it is not easy to set aside money for repairs.

@@TheXcr800dude Myself and my friends all ride TPI bikes. All up we have over 1000 hours of ride time on these and nobody has had any issues outside of standard engine wear. If you have them adjusted correctly, warm them up before riding them hard, and use the proper oil filter maintenance techniques they are very reliable. If this is the last bike you will ride the treat yourself to a smooth running bike. You are still going to have to maintain it. You can take your money to the grave.

I find it strange that enduro guys go that long on service life compared to mx, where I got shot down in flames on social media for having a failed piston at 35 hours.

@The Dirtbike Rider the reason for the drop in quality is because KYMCO is produced in Taiwan compared to Elco in Austria.
I think I spoke to you before about the dealer here in Australia lying to me saying nothing had changed on the EXC's since 2021. Which I then found to be false when visiting another dealer and looking at a 2021 bike with an Elco head, while all the 23's had Kymco.

Unreliability s a common problem with KTM. All the forums are full of KTM horror stories since decades.
The word KTM gives me skin rashes when 40 years ago a 250 GS Enduro ruined totally my 83 racing season. I had all from engine failure, gear box failure, broken frame, to oil pissing rear shocks. KTM didn't gave a shit. The official KTM bikes have little in common with the production bikes; so they can win, otherwise it would break.
After paying the debts caused by the KTM, I bought on 1984 a used Honda CR 250 prepared Enduro. I made a complete season with the same piston and cylinder and not a shadow of problem. After I stayed with Honda, none 2S or 4S gave me trouble. The XR 400 R of the nineties was as reliable as a truck even with a 440 cc kit 38 HP at the rear wheel and you could make complete seasons of competition or long distance raids with just good maintenance.
