I think this is a great choice. The Alpine trail combines great geometry and value. This bike is from the birth place of mountain biking. We have a friend that rides Northstar with us and he rides this bike and send a it. I think the Alpine trail E Bike is the best one in the market and it may be my next bike. What I also like too is if you spend $1000 more you get XT and top end suspension on this bike. I really like this bike and I think it was a great choice.

You will love the green machine! My son races his one in New Zealand for enduro and down hill. It’s fast 💨 down trails and very short in the back. We use vee tires 🛞 in winter and change to narrower maxxis assigais in summer

Marin made a nice package. The Yari just needs better seals & wipers from SKS and a Vorsprung Luftkappe. Include those on your 1st fork service and you will be pleased.

I had the 2020 version of The alpine trail 7 and it was a very good bike to ride. I had a lot of fun riding the trail in the Cali mountains…it can take really joy hits…
I'd go Spectral (I did with the AL6 29er). It doesn't really require any upgrades out of the box but the other bikes have low end damping on the shock / forks, inferior brakes, and lower quality tyres etc which I'd want to replace. In the Spectral everything is balanced and there's nothing that makes me think I need to buy more components.
I have the new Commencal Meta AM 29 origin build in metallic green had it a few weeks now. The website specs are actually wrong, mine came with 4 piston TRP brakes as well as ethirteen bottom bracket and cranks as opposed to the entry level shimano parts listed on the site. You can see in the last 3 photos of the bike on their website that the TRP brakes and ethirteen cranks are what's installed, the first photo is not what you'd be getting. I was super confused when I got the bike cause I thought I would be getting the 2 piston brakes which was the first thing I would have upgraded and almost ordered some new ones before the bike was delivered, glad I didn't. Also, the PNW rainer gen 3 dropper in 34.9 mm diameter seatpost (correct for Meta frames) are on sale for just $99 currently.
Nicely done video! I just ordered a YT Jeffsy Core 2 last week but have to wait a couple more weeks before it’s supposed to ship. I’m with you on the Spectral though, if it was available I might’ve done it. My bike got stolen a couple of weeks ago so I definitely didn’t wanna have to wait too long for a replacement 😅

I can attest to that. My AL 5 showed up about 5 weeks ago. Ordered it end of april though, and after 2 delays it finally showed up end of september. I live in canada so I had to pay duty on it as well, but even still, the specs on this bike for the value crushed everything else even with the added duty cost involved. The next best contender I found from a Canadian standpoint was the YT jeffsy core 2, which is also a very well spec'd bike for the value but canyon was still a touch better IMO... but to make it even better, canyon dropped the price of the AL 5 from $3549 CDN (when I placed my order), down to $3299 before they had shipped it out to me yet, and I managed to get them credit me the difference which made the value just outstanding compared to everything else. Those Polygon T- 8's I believe they are called seem to also be a great value... but still not quite as well spec'd as the canyon and have less travel... and fox 34 rythms with no float x piggyback rear shock as opposed to the canyon with fox 36 rythms with the float x piggyback.... Now, that said canyon can be a pain in the ass to deal with though. When speaking with their customer service, it's like speaking to a mobile phone provider about bicycles.... they are clueless.... but I am thrilled with the bike so far... it's a trail monster. ... and just an FYI, they were available for pre- order and some sizes in stock just the other day if anyone is interested in them.... at least they were on the canadian site.... the 2023 models are listed at $3199 CDN. My guess is because they went from Raceface ride cranks to miranda delta, and from a deore cassette to sunrace on the 2023's... Marin and trek also had me very intrigued too... and the new 2023 trek fuels look very very cool IMO.
Check out Fezzari bikes. You can get a full carbon bike with a decent group set on it for around 4,000 - 4,500. A person I know rides on and its amazing for the money. They sell direct to consumer.
The vitus is a 2022 model the new 290 is same price and commencal now is for sale at 2100/2300 ... I live in mexico and the bike cost me 3000😢 its crazy how expensive bikes are in my country thinking to buy in san diego and cross the border on my bike 😂
For the status, you should probably mention the crazy short chainstays. On the large sizes, for a tall guy... Might be a weird fit. Luckily I'm short af
Had a Marin years ago, broke the frame and they gave me a really hard time. There is a reason they fell off the map. Let's hope they put their money where their hype is. Backed away from the San Quentin last year. The test ride didn't justify the hype. I leaning towards the Commencal or the Spectral in the next couple of years but for now I still have a 27.5 Remedy and there is nothing on the market that can compare for versatility.
I hate when companies do stuff like that. I didn’t get along with the Marin and have moved to other bikes. I’ve heard good things about Canyon customer service 👍
im currently with the alpien trail 7 too. its a good bike but unless you upgrade the wheels and the yari this bike doesnt feel very good. the yari at least in my opinion is not good enough and the wheels are a bit fragile. the cranks also broke on my bike but i dont think many people will be able to break them, another thing is a weird noise that i have from the frame that i cant get rid off. if you switch those parts (and the tires too) the geomtry of the bike is amazing and is very fun to ride

Selling my Slash. There are already enough big brands making videos on expensive bikes. I want to refocus on finding a budget bike that doesn’t break the bank. This is just the journey I’m on right now. I still think the Slash is a great MTB.

Too bad Commencal has the wrong 2-Piston brakes on the spec sheet. That was definitely a reason I decided not to get it. Love that metallic green 👍🏻👍🏻
