I went with the Polygon Siskiu T8 for one big reason: at the time it was $300 more, but the Fox 34 by itself was a $500 upgrade from the Recon on the T7. Absolute no brainer on that one. 😁 A couple volume spacers, a faster rear tire, some tubeless valves, smaller chainring, and my own pedals are all I've done to my gorgeous purple beast. 🤘🤘

Never having used a trail cam th-cam.com/users/postUgkx2sTDdZXomuxedMg_HothfjSXjR3rpPkA before, I was very impressed with the quality of the images and videos. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.

@@junboo8730 sweet! You won't regret it! My old bike is so different in every way that I honestly can't tell you the difference bigger wheels make. It's a 2011 Specialized Hardrock Sport on 26" wheels. But I CAN tell you the Poly is better in every way except super sharp turns because the wheel base is 8" longer. But that's what I wanted because my old bike is super unstable at high speeds which makes jumping a bit sketchy.

I've had my Polygon T8 since Oct of 20 and love it. The components are mostly SLX, with the exception of the brakes which are Tektro 4 piston. I've never had a problem stopping and I've never had a problem with the chain like some folks, which makes me happy. Oh yea when it came out I jumped on it and paid 2299.00, I see it's now up to 2699.00 but even at that it's well worth it.

I picked up the T8...absolutely love it. It's a great ride at a great price. Other contenders for that top spot would be Ibis Ripley AF & the Fezzari Adobe Peak, but I went w/the Polygon T8, so far no regrets. (I have made a few changes for more personal preference: seat, pedals, grips; but the build kit was solid, no issues)

thanks so much for the help - We relocated to North Alabama and my 11 speed Epic didn't have enough gear or tire to take advantage to the steep, rocky, and rooty riding around here. I picked up a new Polygon Siskiu T8 for me an found a lightly used Marin Rift Zone 2 for my wife. I'll report back in as we ride them more. This video did a good job of explaining the geometry and components. The road tests were also very helpful. By the way from what I can tell the new 12 speed Shimano Deore and better groupsets perform really well. I wasn't a fan of the 10 speed Deore, but the new 12 sped stuff is "bang on" fantastic. Next I need to read up on doing the tubeless conversion and setting up the shocks. - good times!

Hey Ben, sorry for my negativity. In my opinion a downcountry bike is an XC bike with a little more travel. A 110 to 120 mm category. Like a SC Blur TR, or Orbea Oiz TR, etc.
I ride an Ibis Ripley V4 at 120mm rear & 140mm fork. It sits in the same travel category as your list of bikes. I would not consider it a downcountry bike at all even though it is a very XCish Trail bike. 😁 I also ride an Ibis Ripmo V2 of which I would put in a somewhat new category, All mountain bike. It's a Trail bike that is almost an Enduro bike, but not quite.
Overall, thank you for your efforts. People looking for a bike in the Budget category can really learn a ton from a well done video like this. Good information, comparisons, and valuable details. Thank you. 🤘🏼

im really on the fence about polygon IF i had not came across the fb page for cracked frames i would of already ordered one it just really makes me question the quality of build materials they are using for the frame itself.. what is even crazier is the fact that a bunch of T7 owners broke multiple frames even after getting the new gusset and supposedly polygon is still selling/ sending out the old inventory with the bad gusset design now its to the point if you crack a T7 frame a bunch of people are receiving the T8 frame without an option to pick from as a replacement. so IF you like the colors on the T7 and your frame cracks your kind of SOL .. something to note! i was hoping they would of redesigned the frame by now all together since it clearly has a weak link.

Is motobecane fly team with a titanium frame considered a good bike? I got one secondhand for a good price. My first bike as an adult. P.S. I know absolutely nothing about bikes. Just learned what disk brakes were the other day.
Also, do most serious bikers get a full suspension bike (as opposed to a hard tail?)

Ive only got a norco storm 4, ive used my mates dual suspension bikes in the past and they are much better, the storm isnt a bad bike for starting but when you wanna keep up and do more riding you just have to upgrade, i got a low budget of $1500 aud (around 1000 usd) until i get a job so i cant afford a very good bike, if anyones got any recommendations it wpuld be appreciated, just something thats good enough not to break easily (well built and good quality) doesnt have to be top tier performance, as long as its good for trails and can also perform well on small jumps

Fun list. Hard to argue with the top end of the ranking. The bottom end is weird to me. The Kona Al Honga brakes are poopoo per Pinkbike’s test shoot out. If you are going to include an expensive frame with poor value spec, the new Rocky Mountain Instinct A10 would be my pick. New this year RM brought out their least expensive trim level ever. The frame is 10/10.
How the Fezzari aluminum offerings missed this list is bonkers. The Abajo Peak or the more expensive version the Cascade Peak are pure value town.
Marin consistently shocks me. Direct to consumer prices from a bike shop brand.

Hey Sean! Thx! OK… If I’m picking one, I’d take the Siskiu T8. It has the FOX suspension I’d upgrade to if the bike didn’t come with it, and a great build for a great price. If its a little out of budget the T7 is a great starter that you can upgrade overtime… Also look at a Marin Rift Zone. It’s on sale right now and a steal at $1799. Hope this helps a little… I know picking a bike is a big decision and just know that either way you go, you’re gonna have a blast on any of these! Cheers!🍻

Oh.... Forgive me I'm just learning, but isn't the point of a trail bike to be more efficient at climbing, and efficient in general, while an enduro bikes main point is to be more capable even at the cost of efficiency in climbing? And doesn't Ibis put the Ripmo in the trail category, and doesn't the Ripmo climb better than almost any other bike in the category? I'm researching my next bike so I'm trying to understand. I just reviewed my Radon Swoop, it's not in this category since has 170mm front/back, but the idea behind is the same: great bikes at affordable prices!
