  • On October 22nd, Jay Reichert of R&D Motorsports set out to set the land speed record in a Trophy Truck. The R&D crew embarked to Laguna Salada dry lakebed 19 miles outside of Mexicali, Baja California. Jay Reichert took the #26 Trophy Truck, aka "The War Machine," to the limits, reaching a maximum speed of 136 mph across the flat landscape and set a new Trophy Truck Land Speed World Record.
This Land Speed Record was done with the race truck ready to pull up to the Baja 1000 start line ready to race, loaded with tool bags and even water bottles, because Jay Reichert wanted to see what the actual top speed was in race configuration of the truck actually was. He didn't want to regear or change anything to make it go faster.
As a side note -- We expected to break the 145 MPH, but the desert lakebeds were wet and soft, it actually sucked up a little of the top speed and we ended up at 136 MPH.
3 Months later we went 141 across the Lakebed in the Mint 400 during the race.
