Being a 57yo rider , who started riding in 1970 , racing in 1980 , still riding today( not very well anymore) . I have never heard of tedtalk , and am here bc of Trey Canard 👍
One of the unluckiest yet most underrated riders of all time. There aren’t many racers out there who have the grit and determination to dust themselves off time and time again, and still remain competitive after suffering injuries like trey did. I have mad respect for this dude
But what if he starts talking about that insane pie in the sky ghost Religion he keeps bringing up, I don't know why, keep your personal stuff personal. With your injuries I'd prefer he/she didn't watch over me.
100 years after we are all gone, Trey Canard will still be remembered as one of the greatest examples of overcoming obstacles and becoming successful. Every day he shows up to work, the sport of motocross becomes safer! LEGEND!
Trey will always be a staple in this sport and a fan favorite. He is a class act and one of the prime examples of perseverance in racing and attitude. Grew up watching him and loved every race he was in. Thanks Trey!
Trey's father, Roy, put me and my little brother on our first bikes in Elk City at their store. Trey was tiny and fierce! He was an inspiration growing up. What an amazing family.
Whiskey Throttle Show episode 31 with Trey Canard. If anyone is interested in his life story, which goes into great detail about his life and the tragic loss of his dad.
Met Trey the night before Unadilla. He was such a gentleman he held the door to a restaurant for my wife and I. Truly humble and one of the fastest guys I’ve ever seen race. I’ll always sing the praises of this wonderful guy.
Had a chance to talk to him for about five minutes one on one at the Utah motocross race a while back. Trey is a class act and super humble. I could only hope my sons turn out like him.
I remember when Trey's father had that accident and passed. Broke all our hearts in the motocross community. I lost my dad in 96 due to lung cancer and know how hard it is when you lose someone you love so much. It's a tough thing to go through. Trey has always been a good ambassador to the sport with his good nature and that big beaming smile he has.
Its not just losing a father, its losing your best friend, hero, role model and your ride or die. Motocross requires a loving family to make it happen. motocross is also an addiction, while being therapy at the same time. It makes losing the person who started it all for you that much harder. Honestly people who have lost their moto parents have lost more then just regular parents, because of the lessons learned, the style of parenting and freedom they gave us. motocross is a different breed, so to all those who lost their first riding coach, love you and stay strong! God speed!
I was happy to see him retire, because I was a fan and couldn't stand to see him get hurt anymore. Happy to see life is treating him well. Love my new Honda, he might have had something to do with that.
Wow I had no idea about that incident with his father. I'm somewhat disabled from a TBI/repeat head injury from a mtb & motocross crash and the trauma is the hardest part of all of it. The physical pain is one thing, but never feeling safe, always tense, always working on calming the system, is a huge battle in itself. Trauma is a real injury and glad this sheds some light on it. Thanks Trey!
I remember you coming up racing an Knowing about your father an you. I remember your crashing an thinking about your desire . Your dad raised a great man
one of my favorite riders! love Trey! Not just because he was an amazing rider...He was a great example to many what a Godly man on the big stage in sports! Very transparent in his faith. My then 10yr old saw that in him also and became our favorite rider. we always rooted for Trey and of course prayed for him. God Bless you and your journey Trey 🙏🏼
Trey has always been a great ambassador for the sport. One of the best on the track and one of the nicest guys off it, I'm glad he's still part of the greatest sport on earth.
One of my favourite ever riders. Every year I would think! "This year is Trey's year". What a great man and role model, for youg people. Adam from Australia 🇦🇺
I was lucky enough to have a friend working for FC/Geico Honda and later HRC during Treys tenure with both teams. It afforded me the opportunity to spend a lot of time under Honda tents. Trey has always been a class act. His positivity is contagious, his humility and gratitude unquestionable. So it comes as no surprise that he works for the betterment of the sport that gave him so much yet took the most. Much respect from Buddy Squirrel! 👍
I’m 53yrs old. 3yrs ago I was rear ended by the tractor trailer. I haven’t been on a dirt bike in all that dew to mi injury’s. I watched Mr Canard come back from strong from a lot of injuries. I bought a Canard tee shirt at a Ford Field supercross some years back. I still wear it today. It helps me with dealing with my injuries. I will be back on a dirt bike. I have God, family, and Trey Canard for the hope and inspiration. Thank you Mr Canard #41. God bless
Congratulations on a memorable and impactful talk, Trey! It was a pleasure to work with you on it. Your work on this talk demonstrates why you were a champion rider -- your dedication, focus, and willingness to stretch yourself helped you craft a valuable experience for the listener. Well done!
Trey Canard is a class act. I was there when he had that accident, I thought he was done for. This is a unique Ted Talks and I am happy to see Trey is doing well.
Thank you, TEDx, for correcting the spelling of Motocross! I only wish Trey had spoken for longer, he has an incredible story, as do many motocross racers.
I’m here because I saw treys name come up on my feed and thought it was another motorcycle interview. Anyway. For those that don’t know, he’s an icon of the sport, Beyond humble, and don’t think there’s anyone that could say a single bad thing about him. The story about his dad will send chill through you but I can promise he’s one proud father
I’ve never seen or met a more brave man. Somewhere in a password question vault out there my childhood response to “who is your hero?” It says Trey Canard. Thanks for being that guy for me.
I remember we were racing at Mosier Valley and found out Trey's dad had a terrible accident on a tractor. It was devastating to all that knew the family. He continued to race with his mom and brother at the helm. I will never forget those days at the tracks in Texas with the family. Keep the FAITH!
were they building the track or grooming the jumps or something? thats so insanely sad and unfortunate / unlucky. im new to motocross, i cant imagine how that happens. did he get run over accidentally?
Never thought I’d see a motocross rider give a tedtalk this is amazing
For real 😳
Ashley Fiolek also did a TED talk

Knowing Trey and his mother for years. I can tell you Trey is a world class guy.

Gifted and Godly at the same time. That would embarrass him, but I believe it’s largely correct. And I’m an atheist!
Such a good guy!! Overcame so much and yet still has so much to give!!Has been huge for HRC as test rider currently!!!
