For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕
Brilliant! If you don't respect this guy as a trainer, you're an idiot. Best thing I ever did was buy a pup from him and try to FOLLOW HIS EVERY LEAD. Without a doubt, the most dedicated, no BS, straight talking and HONEST breeding/training team I have ever met.
Every video of this Dude is a gem! Every video is an air raid of information on training and handling. he is so awesome he has no issue to share info on YT.
I can't explain how much you have actually helped us with your great advice, THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO TO HELP THE DOG WORLD 💯💯🙏🙏♨️♨️🔥🔥🎯🎯YOUR A GREAT TEACHER 👍
I like these videos. Blew my mind all the things I been doing WRONG with all the new dogs I had. Thank you and appreciate everything you guys have done. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this video. Chad is adorable and reminds me so much of my 8 month old male Doberman. My dog does all those same things - scratching, whining, the high prey drive, looking at me like I have some nerve making him stay on place when he wants to go get his toy. This was so helpful. I love this! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge of all things dog!
After the dog learns this behavior, do you think it beneficial to use e collar for the distance duration proofing part instead of leash? Does it matter? Is it less effective or possible for more misinterpretation if you use the e collar? And I’m only talking about the practice of substituting the collar after teaching and doing close reienforcement with the leash first. I ask bc my dog is perfect when I’m close but when I try to start to build any distance over five steps backwards he follows.its been a year. What in the heck did I miss?
That's great! How do you suggest to teach a dog to calm down on Command? I've seen it done with a Mal on a different channel. For example, if they get into a Spazzy mood, usually it takes some effort to calm them down in a scenario where the behavior is not appropriate like a dinner party!...LOL. Any suggestions for this? Thanks.
The first correction was for getting off the place after telling us "I'm going to release him with OKAY"...as though the dog knows you arent talking to him. Other than that, great stuff.
Is the dog allowed to have a toy or bone while in place? My dog seems to like getting on the pet cot without me saying place. Should I take the cot out of the picture unless I'm needing her to be in her place?
i think you know you made a mistake here :P you should not have corrected the dog unless im missing something. he stepped off the platform when you said OK to the camera so technically he was doing exactly what he should have right? am i missing something? unless the command is ok name and not just ok in his direction.
My 13 week old GSD/mal mix is super stubborn about place. He will do it but begrudgingly. And he’ll even talk back bc he doesn’t want to place. He’ll go sit calmly by the sliding door but he hates placing. Help!
I'd love to hear advice on this too. Our girl is great about going on her place, but I haven't required very long durations from her because historically, she barks (and I didn't have a plan in place with how to correct that, which I know is my mistake). I don't want to allow her to reinforce that behavior. What do you all suggest? Thanks again for all you guys do. Edit: Got to the section in which you addressed that, around 10 minutes in. Appreciate it! What would you do if the same thing occurs while increasing distance?
@@gtiernan1 is it okay to teach him on his bed? i dont have a platform thats low enough or a dog cot, but im not sure if the bed is a good idea either, all the platforms i have that could be used are too tall tho i think
I may need to bring my dog to you I just adopted a labradoodle and my dog who was here first is resource guarding me and not allowing his adoptive brother near me😓😓😓
Appreciate the education. The fact that you use the ball for destruction and correcting him for breaking the place will not have negative consequences when you will be rewarding him with that same ball when you work obedience?
@@manliketv3878 He is saying a lot of truth. I have seen a lot of nice dogs with naiive and stupid owners over 25 years. A dog is a 'lower animal' and nearly no owner ever heard the term, as I did in high school in the 1960s.
he is a pro handler ... the dog is NOT his 'baby boy' or 'furbaby' ... right? A dog is a lower animal to be conditioned. It cannot 'learn' as humans think of that term. Dogs are not capable of that, so they need conditioning to get by in life. And dog training is conditioning. See?
GSPs are extremely high energy and need a ton of training in calm- and steadiness - the whining is over-excitment and typical for the breed. I know, because I have one too :)
@@Ferbocarbo I have dogs for 55 years and never had to use or used a prong collar! People who need such things to show their dog his/her place are incompetent losers! I owned Dobermanns, Barsoi, Dutch Shepherd and so on. Certainly not the 'easiest' dogs on earth. When people are not the ruler of their pack they 'need' prong collars. So they shouldnt own a dog in the first place. Oh and many of my dogs were 'second hand' , also shelter dogs who nobody wanted.
@@ROBDee-ho9lu Thing is I'm still to witness a dog that was on death row after doing serious harm to someone being saved by a trainer who uses nothing but clickers and treats. I agree most stuff can be done without prongs. They just make work a lot easier and it seems silly to me why they are seen as torture devices considering moms correct their puppies by nipping them when they do something she doesn't like (pretty similar to the prong collar). Also happens between adult dogs. Prongs mimick the natural way dogs are taught what to do and what not to.

OMG I covet Chad. What a handsome smart dog. Great training video.
Excellent, thank you. Prongs are illegal in Australia so I will use a check chain
What brand of raised cot do you use here? It looks very sturdy. I’m working my way through your book, it’s been most helpful.

I noticed that too... at 2:43 you're explaining it to us but you said "okay" and the dog came off... doggo doesn't know you're talking to the camera.
Was going to comment this as well. Awesome video though!
I noticed that as well
What kind of bed is that ?
Is the dog allowed to have a toy or bone while in place?
My dog seems to like getting on the pet cot without me saying place. Should I take the cot out of the picture unless I'm needing her to be in her place?
I tried that but every 2 minutes the toy falls off the bed, and the dog tries to get it. I’d not give anything
Ha ha this video is so relatable to those of us that have had gsps. :D they are kinda nuts but give them something to do and they are all in.
Thank you so much. This helps so much.
If only you could train Karens to know their place.
This might be best comment ever! Lol
Peace and wholeness fam
😅😂 yes!
How soon can you teach your puppy the place command?
age?
I started place with my Corso at 9 weeks of age
the minute you bring 'em home! Mine all start training for things like place at 8 weeks.

What is the smallest sized dog u can put e collar on?
I've seen really small french bulldogs with e collar's.
