Fail of a video. I watched this to find out what was wrong with the mower, not to get lawncare advice. Did not really solve any problems. Brand new oil. Brand new filter. Clear breather hose. Massive oil leaking through filter. Next video please.
You didn't answer why the oil is coming out from that area? I had the same problem and every time I changed the filter, it would get soaked in oil with mins.
I see three possible causes: 1. Bad head gasket => replace that first. 2. While you're at it, check the valves as well. Good vid about that here: th-cam.com/video/ZQj6ZaFu490/w-d-xo.html 3. You didn't really answer anything. Mine was doing the same, so I pulled the carb, cleaned and replaced those gaskets, new factory filter, put it all back together, even added new oil to make sure I was good on the dipstick, within 2 minutes it's smoking and new filter is gushing out oil again. Guess it's a bit more than just replace the filter
Another possible cause of oil leaking out through the air filter housing is: tipping the mower over on the carburetor side to clean the underside of the mower deck. The crankcase ventilation tube typically connects to the air filter housing and this is where oil can leak out of the crankcase into the air filter housing . Been there, done that. If you do this, suggest removing the spilt oil from the air filter and housing, AND avoid tipping the mower on that side in the future. Keeping carb side up when tipping mower over should eliminate issue. ***Highly suggest running mower completely out of gas and allow engine to cool down before tipping on it's side*** Here's a great video explanation of this: th-cam.com/video/l4NB7MiUEbE/w-d-xo.html
d of replacing the air filter. What I have done is remove the air filter & backing plate. Remove the breather tube from the backing plate & cover the end of the tube wit some flannelette material & secure it with a zip clip. Trim off the excess. Put a cap over the hole in the backing plate. lift the breather tube above the original position & re assemble. This will prevent the vacuum in the air filter sucking up oil from the crank case.
This vid is great, and honestly very insightful. I am here to fix my mower with oil in the air filter, and indeed I have a patchy lawn that I don't water enough. I watched another vid and the guy tore into the engine, scraping and replacing gaskets, so I am relieved that it is a simple fix and and now I have more knowledge. But running the motor with no oil doesn't burn the motor out ? I tried to spin the motor to get starter up but puling cable feels tight giving me the feeling is almos locked
So I have same problem. But had to put a new blade assembly. I changed the blade assembly and it is extremely difficult nearly impossible to pull and than there’s the oil issue. What do you think I have done wrong? Or is it an easy or difficult fix?

Hey i have a question. I have a Honda walk behind mower i shut the fuel switch off and when I tip it up I notice oil coming out around the air filter now. I have done this before anytime I pressure wash the bottom of the deck to inspect and sharpen the blades. It never done this before so I went back changed the air filter back out with a new OEM filter it runs fine. It did smoke a bit when I first started it. How is this happening love the channel thanks for any help you can provide on solving this issue

A little oil blow by is normal even with new Hondas, I would make sure the breather tube is properly connected to the back of the air box and make sure the engine oil is not over filled. Any engine oil seeping or leaking from anywhere other than the crank case is usually worn piston rings, but it sounds like you really take care of your mower, and I really would worry about it unless the problem consists or worsen. My son lost the air filter and cover on my brand new lawn mower when it not start because of this? I've looked everywhere there is nothing about this on TH-cam at all. If the air filer cover will cause it not to start
We have a Briggs/Stratton 500 series 158cc lawn mower engine on a Poulan push mower. The air filter is on top. My coworker says that the filter should have oil in it. That's the first I've heard anything like that. Is he correct?
If I'm correct only if it's a foam filter not a paper one. The foam filter needs a little bit of oil that makes any incoming dirt stick to it. Paper filters work differently.
My brand new briggs has been leaking oil from day one. I’m sending my lawnmower back for a refund. So a blocked filter or blocked breather pipe is defo not the issue here with a new machine. Oil level was on the max line on the dip stick. After the first cut on the lawn I noticed it leaked. Removed some oil thinking that would help. Reading between low and max level this time and still it leaked so I’m returning this pile of 💩 for a Honda powered machine
"Just check and add" oil LOL! I think there's a stop sale on all Honda lawnmowers currently but that's a whole different issue. I highly recommend Honda or Toro. Yes. Lightly coated in oil too catch fine dust/dirt particles. Not soaking or dripping wet.
