Best vid I've seen showing how to do this. I appreciate you making clear all the parts you used as well as the each size of tool that was used. I've got a lawn mower with that exact issue. Called around to get some quotes and was told it was $85/hr for labor ($45 to do a diagnosis that would be rolled into the overall repair if I got it done there) + parts. Potential cost would've been close to half of what I paid for the mower. With your vid, I'm confident I could at least tackle it myself and then utilize the repair shop if I needed to.
Ditto on the verbal work descriptions and video accolades. All of us (first-timers and do-it-yourselfers) need videos like this one to beat today's inflation!!! Much Appreciated!!! 🤑🥳🥳
Thanks for a very informative and instructional video. I've been messing around with small engines for a short while and had no idea they had vents like this.
Nice if your gonna do a video explain what your doing, I mean silent, is good too for those who can look and copy, but I liked how you explained everything simplified it, keep it simple thanks.
Briggs & Stratton just never can leave well enough alone !!! All the gimmicky changes since 1980. Nobody has reinvented the carburetor so many times lol
Can't keep making an engine that everyone has parts sitting around for so they can use those or the aftermarket that knocked them off. Make a new one and it takes the aftermarket companies a while to start making parts
No torque wrench on those tiny bolts. You are brave. Putting the dipstick tube back in the engine will keep garbage out of the oil, particularly if you're blowing trash off of the engine. Briggs engines without an oil filter, needs as much help keeping the oil clean as they can get.
None of the bolts installed need a torque wrench unless you want to torque down the reed bolt to spec, which is unnecessary. Keeping garbage out is easy if you take precautions or blow debris out in a safe direction away from an open engine. Thanks for watching!
Should the breather tube be blown out? I have a Craftsman that has a blower tube like that. I wondered where it went since it does not go to the other side like some I have worked on.
@@IndRepair The oil is wetting the oil filter from the bottom portion and not the top of the oil filter. I did add engine oil at the time I replaced the breather reed. I need to check the oil levels again. Though it leaks oil I've mowed the lawn a few times but sometimes the engine sounds weak. I adjusted the valves before installing the breather reed and it made it way better at the time.
MAN ..THE FIRST TIME U SHOT THAT AIR ..LOL i have u playin in the background whilst listing on ebay ... SPEAKERS R UP CAUSE AIR IS RITE BEHND ME .... LMAO
Is there a difference between the carburetor for the M210 and the M110 carburetor as one has a primer bulb (the M210) and the other one does not. What is the difference? Thanks.
I did this to my mower, oil level is correct, doesn’t smoke and starts easy. But there is still oil coming out of the breather. What would you recommend next
Check the flywheel key, I have seen a partially sheared flywheel key cause this a few different times. Timing will be off and intake valve opens before it should. Still may start and run like it should. Could also be the engine is at the end of its life letting pressure past rings
I have watched a few videos about this issue, all spoke about this breather flapper valve. But it really doesn't "look like" there is anything wrong with the original piece. It was not broken, or misaligned, seemed to have decent spring tension. One video admitted to later replacing the head gasket, claiming that it allowed oil into the combustion chamber, perhaps over pressurizing that breather. Just wondering how you are confirming that breather valve is actually bad? This seems to be a common issue with this style engine. Wondering why the heck Briggs just doesn't make a gasket for that breather cover, that damn silicone just makes a mess. Not criticizing, just trying to learn. Thanks
Hey there, we can confirm that this is bad since the timing is correct (flywheel key not sheared) and there is oil in the air filter. The only other reason for this to happen is if one of the valves is not seating properly, which can be confirmed with a leak down test. A bad head gasket on this model will not cause this issue as the valves and push rod access to the crankcase sit in the same place inside the head gasket. It only seats to the outside of the head gasket not in between the valves/crankcase on this model unlike many others. I would love a gasket for this, would make it much easier but the problem was solved when this was done, which confirms even though it looks ok, it did not have enough tension to seal off
Thank u the air filter was soaked at the bottom of filter I went bought a new filter thinking it was from mowing the ditch in front yard to much leaning thanks for explaining everything you doing

It is interesting, this design. Thanks for watching!
Thank you Sir!!! Your video was excellent and right to the point .you we’re with me at every move (step by step) .thanks🙏 I got it now
I appreciate that, awesome news!
Thanks, great video. I’m familiar with the vent, but like your technique. I also like seeing different models. Take care.
Thanks for watching Steve!!

I had a Sears push mower several years ago. It was the most expensive mower I had ever owned. It kept giving me problems until I gave up on it.
Sometimes you just have to cut your loses and move on! Thanks for watching!
Was your sears mower engine called a "Eager 1", it is a Tecumseh brand . Don't know much about them though.
Good job. You've earned a like and a subscribed.
Pullers are reasonable at Harbor Freight.
Thank you! We have pullers I just think most don't so we show the way to remove it without. I prefer this was and think it is easier myself

I never though a lawnmower would have a reed on top .
Crazy design it is!!
After watching this video, it made me miss the Briggs flatheads even more
Definitely love them to death but unfortunately, they are trying (succeeding) to get everyone to give them up for this newer junk

You can remob3 and clean it yes
Excellent instructions!
Thank you!
Благодаря Вас,
очень полезная информация.
I appreciate your kind words of support!
Great video! I have done this processed and it helped but its still leaking oil.
What do you recommend?
Thanks!
Is it coming from the front valve cover then? The oil level is not too high?

Definitely check oil level
I've changed my reed valve already, and it's still leaking oil out of the breather tube. Any ideas? Mower is only a couple of years old.
If oil level and weight are correct it has to be a partially sheared flywheel key or worn piston/cylinder
hello. What is the name of the part you changed? And what type of glue do you use?
You can find the Reed valve for the breather at amzn.to/3Qv7f2Y

The controls on the carburetor are slightly different. One has a choke and springs but the primer version does not
Are those different carburetors interchangeable?
If you move the parts over yes, few differences

@@IndRepair I hear ya for sure. Nonetheless, this design seems "flawed" considering all the times we see this similar complaint/system...
Definitely flawed but most equipment today is
Good one. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I’m having the same ish problem but it’s milky colour like gas is getting into the oil but I don’t really care because it’s a junk mower
For sure!
Mines doing that even after the reed replacement
I don't see it often but sometimes a valve not seating properly will pressurize the crankcase and cause this issue. The oil level is correct?
I noticed that them filters don't seal good the dirt go in thour the back of the big filter
Yeah, I do see this as being an issue
Coil to flywheel, is .006. Business card, is .008. But, I use a business card.😄
If all else fails had someone here tell me they use a pop can haha seems about right!!
My lawnmower won't start and when I try it pops but I do have oil on my filter what should I do ?
Double check the oil level and see where it is at. You may check the flywheel key, sounds like a possibility it is sheared
@@IndRepair thanks I'll check
What if it's not smoking or running rough just pouring oil though the air filter?
Could be a partially sheared flywheel key, stuck valve or the issue shown here. Sometimes things present differently depending on the situation/mower
Thank u the air filter was soaked at the bottom of filter I went bought a new filter thinking it was from mowing the ditch in front yard to much leaning thanks for explaining everything you doing
@@michaelneal1223 Glad to help!
Fly wheel key has nothing to do with any of this
If timing is off can cause an issue like this
My filter is full with oil smh smoking it starts for a few seconds then goes off
Is it overfilled a bunch?
Told everything but part number
Link in description says part we talked about in video and if you click it you can purchase or get the part number from there at Amazon
you said if oil is silvery do what
Silver is a sign of major engine wear. Is it still running? Change the oil at the very least
I MISS MY JOB 😔
I hear that one!
those are thour away motors
Supposed to be for sure. They can be fixed but do not last long as others
