Hello, 2000hr FTD player here. One tip for you is to subdivide your interiors into relatively small compartments, as this makes your craft exponentially more durable against enemy fire.
Another, hopefully more useful tip: APHE shells are only really useful if they are going at least over 900-1000 meters per second, any lower and the AP value of the shell will be too low to penetrate most forms of armor on enemy crafts. You only beat the briar through the sheer volume of HE dispersed, however, your AP shells were not actually penetrating the armor.
@@Gameomaster-vv1cx i mean. whether you penetrate enemy armour or not isn't dependant on your shells velocity, its dependant on your shell's kinetic damage + AP value compared to the block's health + armour class. you can absolutely make a sub 1000 m/s APHE shell with high penetration - look at CRAM. velocity just helps against more mobile and evasive targets, while also helping out with kinetic damage and AP value (velocity isn't THE thing that dictates whether you have good armour penetration or not, its the AP and KD value of your shell, which velocity affects)
@dripwastaken7884it should be theoretically possible to do this without spin clipping. You would just need to make the turret wheel significantly larger.
so, this feels like the type of gun you build a ship AROUND, meaning, the center of the ship is this, and it just rotates, but it's not a boat, it's just an alien space ship or plane, and it just looks like a spiky, large, weird vessel.
1:53 you cannot convince me this isn't what was said as the sovits made the ground atack mig 23 there was an incident where after firing the gun the entire instrument panel fell onto the pilots lap
Ah yes the gun that beats the GAU-8 if you could only mount it on a vehicle. (Yak-9-k, not mig 23 originally iirc. Gsh gun not quite sure on the number)
You sir, are an absolute freak. In terms of what the FTD community gets up to on my recommended feed, this is the highest compliment I am capable of giving.
reminds me of the Hapan Battle Dragon from the old starwars EU. basically, the Hapan turbolaser cannons refire rate was significantly slower than the equivalent Imperial ones. so they built a ship that looks like two saucers stacked on top of eachother and the canons were mounted on a track running around the rims, so all the guns would rotate around the ship like the chain on a chainsaw.
The little turrets on the rest of the craft feel like they're such a trivial formality at this point. I think style-wise there were only ever two ways to go with this turret. Either firstly the over-overbuilt concept you mentioned, which in my (unbiased) opinion could use more decoration styled to look like visible structural beams so it looks truly absurdly overbuilt to match the gun. The hatches into the turning area and the overlooks on the supports definitely add to that a lot. The second option is giving it all the curves and angles to basically look like it's half art piece - y'know, swept-back supports with an organic side profile for the bit holding up the gun, work the circle the base turns in into being a centerpiece of a series of other circles, perhaps incorporate the holes to the water into that, so on and so forth. That, or a flying saucer.
If aligned vertically, It'd be great on a carnival fortress. Double up the cannons, going the same direction at the same time, and make it look like a Ferris wheel.
You don't put your suppressor in front of your muzzle brake? Must be a regional thing wherever you're from. Everybody does that. Edit: on second thought, FTD maths out the length of barrel you need for full propellant burn. I wonder if it only counts the length of barrel up to the first brake. That would make sense.
@ It might, maybe. A barrel does not conform to caliber unless part of the cannon. It’s also not a suppressor but a muzzle brake, which exists to reduce recoil by expelling gasses in different directions. I’m not sure if it takes into consideration the location of the brake, but if it does, then that would explain it. Why do you put your brake behind the end of the barrel though, you are the first person I’ve seen do that.
@@Ghent_Halcyon I jist think it looks cooler. And I checked, muzzle brakes do not affect propellant burn at all strangely enough. I just like the look of having a meter or so of normal barrel AFTER the brake. IRL, brakes dont even get used on big guns like tank turrets, naval cannons, or artillery anymore. Nowadays big guns just tank recoil with absorption springs.
@ Neat. Rather odd that it doesn’t affect burn though. But if it did, mimics do exist. Brakes are still used, Infact they are used more than before. Most artillery now have muzzle brakes to help with accuracy retention. On top of the fact that recoil springs are not enough.
somebody uses this incremental spinblock tacting to make really cool huge mono wheel tanks too, perhaps everything built this way lags a bit but it looks so cool! There is this build, panandrum? that does this with cram cannons, pretty fun indeed!
This reminds me of the Happan Battle Dragons from starwars. In lore, their guns fire rate was very slow, so they mounted them on a ring so that by the time the gun was ready to fire it was pointed back at the target.
I like your buulding stylem your commentary speaks to the agony of the average from the depths player, tho imagining the despair watching the eyrie eat every single round before annihilating the gun with a single cram to the turret would be fun to watch
The gun could sit way lower in the ship tbh, a bit long bathub where the fireing barrel just pokes out a little bit, and then most of it is below the water line. the counter turning gun makes sense to avoid gyroscoping issues. I would have thought you made a single rotary gun where the entire ship turns to aim.
This is less a gunship and more of a monitor ship. Wich if my memory isn't failing me this time was a class of ships that where basicly small-ish ships with battleship sized guns think of it like a destroyer with a 17inch cannon. Extremely slow but good damage.
So, interestingly, there is a game that LEGIT has this kind of weapon. The game is called "Waves of Steel," which is best described as a warship-building EDF game. I would highly recommend it. The gun in the game is called 80cm PanjanDrum
I made something similar to this except it flew and the guns poked up from the top and bottom like traditional turrets and it was encased in like 15m of rotating armor. Spinning things is really OP in this game.
Well what if you put the rotary cannons horizontal, parallel with the ship instead of vertical/perpendicular? And maybe built it more _into_ the ship? So it can be more armored
@heinzaballoo3278 the part at the end where I sped it up is the fastest it can go with the cooling I added. Unless I added more cooling to each of the 48 barrels then making it any faster would cause it to go out of sync and do every other full spin without shooting once.
Stacking the gun wheels horizontally would make the center of gravity lower and potentially let you fire at multiple targets at a time at the expense of per-target fire rate.
This could easily become a not so super ugly thing if it was modeled like a heavy object from the anime heavy object. They are basically giant balls covered in guns
