Apple Watch Series 9 One Month Later - Why It Wins

  • This is the Apple Watch Series 9, what Apple calls as smarter, brighter, mightier, and what I'm gonna call as probably of my favorite smartwatches in a bit, even if for reasons that are not necessarily conventional to my taste. I mean sure, this might look like Series 8 and Series 7, but let's just say this could just be the culmination of what this watch should've been since Series 1. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let me explain to you why in to our full review.

I just got the Series 9 as a gift and it is my first smart watch. I love everything so far, but there is so much! I will be busy learning about everything it is capable of doing for MONTHS, I'm sure. So far, I love it!
By the way, Jaime Rivera's little clips of him jogging and working out are HEAVEN to watch! He is so beautiful! I LOVE you, Jaime. :)

Great review, thanks. I just purchased a Series 9 yesterday so I'm still getting familiar with it, but I can say so far I'm very pleased with it. I got the non-LTE version since it wasn't a feature I wanted to pay extra for so it will always be a companion to my iPhone 14, and I'm fine with that.

I got my first Apple Watch last year, just after the Series 8 was released. I went for the Series 7 Nike, because I didn't need the 8's body temp tracking, but wanted more than the SE2 had to offer. I wear it for sleep tracking, so it gets put on its fast charger during my "morning routine".
My advice would be to try on, if you’re able to do so. I was sure I'd prefer the darker colour, but wasn't sure of size. After trying all sizes and colours, I actually went for the 41 in Starlight.
    Thanks for the content!

    Nice review, helpful and informative.
I'd used the accessibility gestures in the past and wondered what the difference is now, so nice to know. Also, I liked being able to swipe faces across easily. Using a basic time and steps face and more complex screens either side for different circumstances.
I've tried several watches wearOS... And none have tempted me away from my Apple watch, which I use happily with my android phone (those who say apple watches are only for iPhone users haven't explored deep enough).
I used to love my Garmin but wanted more functionality (I like the look of the vivo active 5 and venu 3 but I know the features are behind what I want).
I get 2.5 days between charges on my Apple watch. However, there are times when I want at least a week, ideally 10 days without charging when I just need time, alarm, countdown and steps and my amazfit does nicely for that (even if its accuracy isn't as good as Apple or Garmin).

This was just great! First time on your channel and I'm subscribed. Yesterday bought a series 9, im a triathlete, have a Garmin 965 and an AW Ultra 1. Depending on what stage of training im in, I use a different watch. Currently training for a marathon, and then an ironman, so im using the Garmin again for the triathlon, but! when im only running y use my Ultra with the Stryd app, because it sucks on the Harmon and its wonderful on the AWU. So why the 9? Well, all the daily activities, all the smart watch features, my credit cards, iPhone integration, and so on, I have them on my 9 series all day long. For me, having an Apple Watch, is a MUST! But the ultra is to big to have it on my right wrist, so the black series looks like a Woop band, and no one notices it.

I agree with most of your points but until Apple increases battery life to something more equivalent to my gen 2 Epix Pro, Garmin will remain my main fitness watch. You hit all my thoughts spot on.. .I just got the Apple Watch 9 and will pick it up tomorrow, I am switching to it from my Garmin Forerunner 255 and my Garmin Forerunner 245 Music. Im an avid distance runner but im thinking ill appreciate the Apple Watch 9 more than my garmins... Im tired of the Garmin telling me i shouldnt run today because my sleep wasnt exactly what it thinks it should be and if I run anyway it deducts from my Endurane score and starts to chip away at my 52 VO2 Max score for no other reason.. Im also noticing my steps are off and vary greatly even when i do the same walks daily and at the same pace.. it varies sometimes by almost 500-1000 steps.. After this review im excited to see the Apple Watch 9 will fix this problem.. So I guess both my Garmisn will be placed on either Ebay or Marketplace and ill start using the Apple Watch 9 now along with my Apple Watch 15 Pro.
Im excited to see how it works out.

As someone who has the blue Series 6 44 mm model, I'm able to get $115 in trade-in value for my watch if I upgrade to the Series 9 45 mm. But then again I know that since next year is the Series X release, there could be a major update to the watch. So I'm not sure if I should just pull the trigger & upgrade now or wait another year & trade in my 6 for the X even though the trade in value would be lower

Now that I have series 9 on my wrist I wanna say something about battery life as it concerns a lot of people here :
I’m not using always on display (distract me way too much), so it’s not accurate as someone using AOD.
every morning I put my watch on charger (old habits from my old series 5).
Let’s say that I’m at 95-90%. The same day at midnight, I’m at 52%.
It charges very fast writhing 30 minutes (let’s say a shower routine) you’ll be almost full
Now with the habits of charging you phone + the Apple Watch (I don’t think that you need it all in your shower) it’s very fine
    Don’t you think?
Oh and sleep takes around 10-12%

I still don't understand the need for these watches. It is quite obvious to know how healthy you are, if you are improving, how well you sleep, what your rough heart is... etc, by just how you feel. Why do you need all this extra data? I am a rower and runner, and I have never felt the need to buy one of these watches - can someone explain their intent and insights it gives you which can't be known with just 'how you feel'?

    • @ClaxtonBay123

Are you joking? “How you feel” means absolutely nothing when it comes to working out.

    • @nedks11
      @nedks11 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@ClaxtonBay123 You clearly haven't worked out that much then. I don't even understand your comment, as how you feel is obviously important. Do you feel out of breath? Can you feel your heart rate rising? Are you sweating? Can you run further? Can you row further? Do your legs feel heavy? Is what was previously hard now easy? Can you lift more? THE LIST GOES ON! What are you talking about?!

It depends on the person-age, lifestyle, fitness level, etc. For me it’s worth it because I can access so many iPhone functions without having to pull out my phone. For example, I love being able to ask Siri to set a quick reminder if I’m out walking on the street running errands and something pops into my head without having to stop and pull my phone out of my bag. I don’t use the fitness and health features as much as many do, but as an older (senior) person I find it helpful to keep track of my exercise, steps, etc. At my age I’m also more grateful for the heart rate monitoring than a younger, fitter person might be. I’ve had Apple Watches since the original-went from Series 0, to 3, and now Series 8. I can’t imagine not having one.

It’s like the difference between a flip phone or a landline and a smartphone. I have an analog watch, but I love having a digital watch to track my sleep and record my runs. But to your point, you don’t need all of this stuff if you’re an athlete-they’re all accessories.
