Apple Watch Series 9 One Month Later - Why It Wins

- This is the Apple Watch Series 9, what Apple calls as smarter, brighter, mightier, and what I'm gonna call as probably of my favorite smartwatches in a bit, even if for reasons that are not necessarily conventional to my taste. I mean sure, this might look like Series 8 and Series 7, but let's just say this could just be the culmination of what this watch should've been since Series 1. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let me explain to you why in to our full review.

Bought the series 9 for my wife’s Birthday & my wife bought me an ultra 2 for mine. We really love the more responsive interface & interactions with Siri
She got a raw deal
Congrats! By the way, I have it for myself too! 😎💯
I just got the Series 9 as a gift and it is my first smart watch. I love everything so far, but there is so much! I will be busy learning about everything it is capable of doing for MONTHS, I'm sure. So far, I love it!
By the way, Jaime Rivera's little clips of him jogging and working out are HEAVEN to watch! He is so beautiful! I LOVE you, Jaime. :)
Great review, thanks. I just purchased a Series 9 yesterday so I'm still getting familiar with it, but I can say so far I'm very pleased with it. I got the non-LTE version since it wasn't a feature I wanted to pay extra for so it will always be a companion to my iPhone 14, and I'm fine with that.
Me too and I love it.
Helpful review and really good presentation style. You covered exactly what needed to be covered. Smooth communication. Easy to follow. Thanks!
I got my first Apple Watch last year, just after the Series 8 was released. I went for the Series 7 Nike, because I didn't need the 8's body temp tracking, but wanted more than the SE2 had to offer. I wear it for sleep tracking, so it gets put on its fast charger during my "morning routine".
My advice would be to try on, if you’re able to do so. I was sure I'd prefer the darker colour, but wasn't sure of size. After trying all sizes and colours, I actually went for the 41 in Starlight.
Thanks for the content!
R u using the epix gen 2 with Apple Watch s9 ? Which one do u think is better ? And which has better heart rate accuracy and sleep tracking ? And do u thing ecg is important?
Nice review, helpful and informative.
I'd used the accessibility gestures in the past and wondered what the difference is now, so nice to know. Also, I liked being able to swipe faces across easily. Using a basic time and steps face and more complex screens either side for different circumstances.
I've tried several watches wearOS... And none have tempted me away from my Apple watch, which I use happily with my android phone (those who say apple watches are only for iPhone users haven't explored deep enough).
I used to love my Garmin but wanted more functionality (I like the look of the vivo active 5 and venu 3 but I know the features are behind what I want).
I get 2.5 days between charges on my Apple watch. However, there are times when I want at least a week, ideally 10 days without charging when I just need time, alarm, countdown and steps and my amazfit does nicely for that (even if its accuracy isn't as good as Apple or Garmin).
Thnx. my S9 is my first apple watch, and I'am loving it. more helpfull then I expected. great for running, walking, quick view with notifications etc. no regrets that I bought one. and the woven sportband. 10+ only 👉😀😀😀
What do you think about the Apple Watch in Stainless Steel (also for Sport)? And can you do a workout wich tracks your whole ski day with the S9?
Thanks for your opinion.
Comparing the new Garmin venu 3 and aw 9 which is better ?
Great review - also went back to Series 9 from Ultra and really enjoying it. Battery life is awesome even when using for runs and workouts plus driving directions.
Qué buena review, Jaime! 👏
This is my very first Apple Watch and it’s awesome!! Great bday gift 🎁 totally recommend if you can get it!
Thank you for reminding me of the smart stack; just added the sleep data as well ❤
Hi can somebody give me a heads up on a eSim, want to go cellular UK. Whats the cheapest plan, and with who, is the set up, straight forward, or is it a dog to configure. Apple 11 to iwatch 9. Ta.
This was just great! First time on your channel and I'm subscribed. Yesterday bought a series 9, im a triathlete, have a Garmin 965 and an AW Ultra 1. Depending on what stage of training im in, I use a different watch. Currently training for a marathon, and then an ironman, so im using the Garmin again for the triathlon, but! when im only running y use my Ultra with the Stryd app, because it sucks on the Harmon and its wonderful on the AWU. So why the 9? Well, all the daily activities, all the smart watch features, my credit cards, iPhone integration, and so on, I have them on my 9 series all day long. For me, having an Apple Watch, is a MUST! But the ultra is to big to have it on my right wrist, so the black series looks like a Woop band, and no one notices it.
I love my apple watch 9. Best smartwatch out.Keep up the great videos.
Just got mine today 🔥🔥🔥
whats your view on the apple watch ultra 2 compared to the series 9 im considering returning my ultra 2 for the series 9 stainless steel as i find my heart rate sensor messes up sometimes and gives me readings of 38 bpm when im actually working out
If you go diving and want more battery life, get the U2. I recently got the S9 and am happy with it for everyday use.
Nice review!
I agree with most of your points but until Apple increases battery life to something more equivalent to my gen 2 Epix Pro, Garmin will remain my main fitness watch. I've had my Apple Watch since gen 1, and sometimes I'll wear both of my watches, but battery life will continue to hold it back for me.
I upgraded to ultra 2 from my series 8. My wife now has my old series 8. She loves it. I love my Ultra 2 even more
I have apple series 8 Sterling silver. It looks great but was almost 1k. I wear my apple watch ultra 2 everywhere. It looks good and can pretty much be worn with any outfit. I have the samsung watch 5 pro, watch 4 classic, and watch 6. Those i just wear to tell the time. There's just something about the ultra 2 man!
You hit all my thoughts spot on.. .I just got the Apple Watch 9 and will pick it up tomorrow, I am switching to it from my Garmin Forerunner 255 and my Garmin Forerunner 245 Music. Im an avid distance runner but im thinking ill appreciate the Apple Watch 9 more than my garmins... Im tired of the Garmin telling me i shouldnt run today because my sleep wasnt exactly what it thinks it should be and if I run anyway it deducts from my Endurane score and starts to chip away at my 52 VO2 Max score for no other reason.. Im also noticing my steps are off and vary greatly even when i do the same walks daily and at the same pace.. it varies sometimes by almost 500-1000 steps.. After this review im excited to see the Apple Watch 9 will fix this problem.. So I guess both my Garmisn will be placed on either Ebay or Marketplace and ill start using the Apple Watch 9 now along with my Apple Watch 15 Pro.
Im excited to see how it works out.
hi, do you still think so??
Are you unsure between the Fgarmin Forerunner 965 or the Apple Watch 9?
Thank you
3:34 - I wish there was a gesture for a long held pinch which takes you into an app that you're browsing in the widget carousel after the initial double pinch.
Ultra better just for durability alone, agree after using round smartwatch the shape apple uses is best overall and works way better reading screen
Honestly. I’d rather have a 9 and a Garmin if I wanted durability
If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Love the improvements but I’m going for the ultra. I like the titanium lil more.
Thanks for an excellent review. I am going to purchase a 9, however, I am unsure if I need cellular. Another determining factor will be use ability during hiking. Thanks
Just a follow up. I purchased the Series 9 today on Amazon. Got a great deal by accepting Amazon card. Thanks again for excellent review. I have decided to sub your channel.
I agree with you many things except the squareness
Series 7 does the same stuff your intro was showing ?
I just got the ultra 2 and I love it ❤❤
I purchased the series 9 for my wife she loves it, she wont leave home without it.
Any suggestion what brand for series 9 45mm case protection?
Supcase continues to be my favorite. All kinds of options
What size is this
Nice silver strap. Do u have link for that
I'm still debating whether or not to get an Apple Watch. If I am going to do it, I feel going all-in is best.
Does the SE version allow the ECG option? Hard to consider when to get but I do feel drawn to the 9.
owned both, and it may seem as not a big deal, but always on display is must have (at least for me). watch looks a lot better with something on the screen
I have the series 9 in red
That first watch screen layout that pops up after double tapping should be a watch face with the stack moving independently to glance additional information as customized.
The Siri watch face is very similar to
@@Davi_L yes I just checked it out.
As someone who has the blue Series 6 44 mm model, I'm able to get $115 in trade-in value for my watch if I upgrade to the Series 9 45 mm. But then again I know that since next year is the Series X release, there could be a major update to the watch. So I'm not sure if I should just pull the trigger & upgrade now or wait another year & trade in my 6 for the X even though the trade in value would be lower
I have a blue 45mm S7 watch and I’m also debating whether I want to update to a S9 as I have really gone off the blue colour! The midnight S9 looks so nice ! I’m also not prepared to wait until September 2024 for Apple’s new products….
I love it when you say Riverrra with that accent ❤
I've absolutely loved my Apple Watch SE. But I think I'm gonna see if I can get a good Black Friday deal on the Series 9 or Ultra 2. 😁
Don't wait for the series 10 it will be a big upgrade like iPhone x
@@newmapper5939when will it come out
I’m still deciding for ultra 2 or S9. Confused! :D
Just got my first apple watch … the S9. Love it, but battery life stinks compared to my Garmin. May return it and get the Ultra 2.
Series 9 vs SE 2nd gen? I just got a 2nd gen w/ cellular on sale for $250. The series 9 w/ cellular is $499....worth the extra $250????
Control center was always accessible from every application.
Just hold briefly as you scroll up.
Would you recommend also buying AppleCare for the series 9 watch?
yes, I would say so. compared to a phone, a watch is more bare. it can be knocked against railings, walls, scratch etc. if you have apple care. end of the apple care, smash the watch, get a new one and new battery. last u another 2 years. (not recommending the smashing but hey just saying, it covers all damage)
I agree with ur insight
Rocking series 8 and no problems so
Far
Can’t wait to see the joy in my 12 yr old sons eyes this Friday😁
I agree
Getting my series 9 Wednesday.
I can’t stand the new Garmin Connect app, so I’m moving back to apple.
What’s the earliest version that would tell you whether you have a heart issue
Series 4 will do an ECG to detect A-fib
@@skipcooney the missus has a series 5 she doesnt use so thatll do me 👍
i want the double tap developed even further
The only thing that I don’t like about the Apple Watch is battery life
02:59 - (It can "go" to as low as one nit)?? .... It's "𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜" to go down to one nit weather you like it or not, because there is no way to 'increase' the brightness in dark environments. ... Just in case anyone was wondering.
5:15 yes u can side swipe watch faces by enabling swipe from end
You're a great presenter! You've had professional training!
Good review. I’m not seeing any great trade-in deals. Apple will give me $150 for my stainless steel series 7, and Verizon $180. That’s really not great. I’ll hold onto the series 7. I wish its battery wasn’t at 84% capacity.
Do you know that apple watch has sensor screen? No-one uses it like u showed
I switch back to IOS and last week got myself 15 Pro, S Steel Series 9 and Airpods Pro 2nd Gen from Pixel 4. Costs USD 2107.00 and I hope it last until iphone 20
Best of luck with that. 😊
It’s mind blowing that a watch exists with this much capability on your wrist. Think about it for a moment…you can make and receive calls, messages etc..to anyone in the world …from your wrist 🤯 Movies use to portray this as alien technology not too long ago lol
Lol, there a lot of watches capable of making and taking calls, messages, etc
It’s not mind blowing by any means. That’s just normal advancement of tech
@@ClaxtonBay123 Yea, call it normal. We went from thick ass computer to smartwatch with more than 100x the power of that thick ass computer within 30 years. I call that amazing.
@@Weakmencreatetoughtimes not sure what's so funny about my reply. The initial comment gave the implication that only this apple watch has those capabilities.
I didn’t know Jaime was buff like that 😂
Your name reminded me of Haim Revivo, the footballer.
Jaime, great video. I really like that Milanese band on your Apple Watch. 👍👍
I’m getting a new watch my series 6 died on me, i just can’t decided aluminum, stainless or ultra, I kinda want the sapphire crystal scree
Better then the last one
I have Apple series 3. Should I upgrade?
I have 6, 7, 8, and 9. No difference in 8 & 9. Now no pulse ox on 9 so worse than 8.
Apple..why should a watch be round? S10 is…round 😂
Why does this feel more like an ad than a review
Because you’re obsessed with negative content.
Sponsored
Because that is all TH-camr reviews are nowadays. They are nothing more than uncommissioned sales people. It’s just they’re trying to get views that’s their commission.
Because he likes that watch and it’s his personal opinion and his video
God forbid somebody has an opinion on THEIR video
Some video titles makes me wonder wither Apple already owns famous reviewers
I think it’s very lovely, and try and tell me different.
Marques said it perfectly. It’s a spec bump form the 8 😂.
All the tech couch potatoes expect every new Apple release to be huge. Show me any other phone or watch from another vendor that does more than a spec bump each release.
@@emmgeevideoit's been the same since the series 6. It's 3 years of iterative updates and the iphone has been the same since the 11 as well. Let's not kid ourselves and think it's something revolutionary, it's a smartwatch that taxes you 3 times the competition for it's logo
Thankfully if you got some sense you wouldn't listen to MKbHd the most overrated tech youtuber
@@mrkring1526 overrated? I beg to differ.
@@mrkring1526 That's it. mrkring1526 has spoken!! No more MKBHD for me!! I want to have some sense!!! What was I thinking??? Thanks mrkring1526 for the wake up call!!!
U can scroll you watch faces with digital crown 😅
Where is the pixel watch review, that isnt trashed LOL
Now that I have series 9 on my wrist I wanna say something about battery life as it concerns a lot of people here :
I’m not using always on display (distract me way too much), so it’s not accurate as someone using AOD.
every morning I put my watch on charger (old habits from my old series 5).
Let’s say that I’m at 95-90%. The same day at midnight, I’m at 52%.
It charges very fast writhing 30 minutes (let’s say a shower routine) you’ll be almost full
Now with the habits of charging you phone + the Apple Watch (I don’t think that you need it all in your shower) it’s very fine
Don’t you think?
Oh and sleep takes around 10-12%
We are submitting this proposal in the hope that it will be accepted and we can move forward with the project.
What
Still can’t beat my Casio, solar powered battery!
LoL, how's that heart rate looking on the Casio?
@@PocketnowVery professional response. lol 💀
@@BojanTomicI like it
@@Pocketnowas accurate as it can get
@@BojanTomicit’s actually hilarious
I can’t call without my phone?
Depends on if you get the cellular version or not
Nah I like my smart watches to look like normal watch ⌚ but be smart 🧠
Double tap was one the old watches
Really disappointed on the screen quality it's so rubbish got scratch on second day
You got apple care?!
Surely it was the aluminum version, right?
I hate watch OS 10😅
You never explained why you are Jaime Rivera.
Great review thanks. (I didn't catch your name at the end, say your name at the beginning bro, and slower).
This is pretty cool because it only works on few apps😂😂😂
Uhhh.... the first apple smart watch didnt even run apps natively. it was a joke
Strange that apple it 666 sign when you tap you fingers
The Apple watch is neat, except it doesn't integrate well with Android and therefore is a non-starter. Come on Apple, open the gates a bit.
They are not going to let android connect to the cloud. I’d like to give Samsung watches a try but it’s just not going to happen
Wins over what?
Galaxy watch 6 classic had it way before. The feature is useless in both watches however.
All Apple watches are the same. I’m fine with my Apple Watch seven thank you.
I want to return my Apple Watch series 9 now I am so disappointed. It’s one of the worst products I’ve purchased from Apple overhyped I don’t know what to do. I’m selling the watch I think 🥺
I’m on the same boat lol.. Have you decided?
@@zonnebloemsummer6435 I would like to sell it this doesn’t really do anything for me. It’s just I feel like it’s more of a decoration on my wrist. Anyone interested in Apple Watch series 9 I bought it in October anyone interested let me know.
Ppl complaining about battery life do take showers lol?
Galaxy watch 6 classic is better.
“Double tap “ is annoying to watch.
To say people are skint they still keep buying them ?
I still don't understand the need for these watches. It is quite obvious to know how healthy you are, if you are improving, how well you sleep, what your rough heart is... etc, by just how you feel. Why do you need all this extra data? I am a rower and runner, and I have never felt the need to buy one of these watches - can someone explain their intent and insights it gives you which can't be known with just 'how you feel'?
Are you joking? “How you feel” means absolutely nothing when it comes to working out.
@@ClaxtonBay123 You clearly haven't worked out that much then. I don't even understand your comment, as how you feel is obviously important. Do you feel out of breath? Can you feel your heart rate rising? Are you sweating? Can you run further? Can you row further? Do your legs feel heavy? Is what was previously hard now easy? Can you lift more? THE LIST GOES ON! What are you talking about?!
It depends on the person-age, lifestyle, fitness level, etc. For me it’s worth it because I can access so many iPhone functions without having to pull out my phone. For example, I love being able to ask Siri to set a quick reminder if I’m out walking on the street running errands and something pops into my head without having to stop and pull my phone out of my bag. I don’t use the fitness and health features as much as many do, but as an older (senior) person I find it helpful to keep track of my exercise, steps, etc. At my age I’m also more grateful for the heart rate monitoring than a younger, fitter person might be. I’ve had Apple Watches since the original-went from Series 0, to 3, and now Series 8. I can’t imagine not having one.
It’s like the difference between a flip phone or a landline and a smartphone. I have an analog watch, but I love having a digital watch to track my sleep and record my runs. But to your point, you don’t need all of this stuff if you’re an athlete-they’re all accessories.
im a Pop with 3 kids.
are you a Pop Hymen R.?
Pop? I'm pretty sure he showed us he's Papi 😂. My man does not skip leg day
The garmin works with any phones this watch is no good if you have a Samsung phone and this new apple watch doesn't charge up by placing it on the back of your iphone like you can do with Samsung watches
@@GH0STST4RSCR34MIt's not.
Garmin is a fitness tracker not a smartwatch, two different things.
And the hand gesture to control the watch has been on the galaxy watches since the Watch 4.
Reverse wireless charging will always be a gimmick.Who the hell wants to suck battery out of their phone to charge something else? I’ll never understand that.
@@davidjacobs6244I forgot my watch charger on my vacation a few months ago and trust me, having the ability to charge with my phone came in very handy.
