I think that because of the big map and changes to naval mechanics the naval warfare in this iteration is looking quite interesting. You really do need to build up those island naval bases or launching major operations far from home ports is very very difficult.
That should be interesting ... I'll be honest early I don't really even notice changes to naval, but if that's because its on the logistical side that would be a welcome improvement/enhancement.
@thehistoricalgamer There's changes with the non-grand campaign scenarios. Ships have different ranged fire for example depending on ship type. In the Day of Infamy grand campaign, there are no AVLs, just AVs..so amphib operations got to be well planned. No more slinging long range AVLs on naval cruise across the ocean to see what sticks haha
I like some aspects of the Strategic Command WWII games, but I've never loved how it depicts naval warfare. The maps are also dodgy. But I do enjoy watching these "Let's Play" videos.
For a game like this I actually think the way they handle blockade/convoying via a box or spot on the map is well done, I also like the simplified yet effective way R&D tradeoffs are also handled, even land combat is ok, because its very attritional in the way that most land combat was, and while it doesn't handle breakouts perfectly, for this theater that doesn't matter much. I agree entirely though that the naval combat does not at all feel like naval combat. While wearing down a division over 10-20 days of continuous attacks makes total sense, wearing down a ship over 10-20 days is simply not how naval or air combat worked either in the Pacific or the Atlantic.
@thehistoricalgamer Hmmm...actually those ship counters represent multiple vessels. For Heavy Cruisers it's like 4 or more actual ships. CV counters equal 2 vessels. So your wrong assuming they are getting, 'worn down'. Ships are getting sunk, but the count is going down from 10 to 0 as a factor or percentage of what's left in that unit counter.
I know that the game's devs know their audience, but the fact that the game doesn't let you do anything but read until minute 10 is a bit too much in my book:) Though the level of detail is both impressive and daunting.
I would love for you to make a Historical video on Mount and Blade 2. I know it is not historical but it has a lot of historical elements and I would love to hear your commentary on it.
I'm playing Europe after the World at War version. I can't stand Europe. As an Allied player, I find it ridiculously difficult. Perhaps, I'm approching it the wrong way. I have been waiting for a PACIFIC game from these guys. Didn't even know, this was coming!
I have played PTO2, a ton, on the PC though not the Saturn. When SNES Drunk did his PTO video a few weeks back I was debating buying an SNES copy of PTO2 on eBay and making a series of it. I have an old SNES and a capture card I can hook up to it. Seems easier than trying to fiddle with doxbox on a copy I haven't been able to get to work (lately) frankly.
PTO2 btw is the only game I've ever seen try to (and mostly succeed) get the conflict between the Army and Navy over resources and priorities right. The games cabinet meetings were the best imho.
I haven't seen anything particularly new in the naval side which is a bit disappointing, but I wouldn't compare it to WITP because its not trying to replace WITP.
I haven’t played much warplan, I honestly don’t recall world at war well because it’s been so long. I need a bit more time before I haven a definitive point of view.
Tell me if you have ever finished a single campaign in that crazy game? 😂 From what I have seen, there is a lot of excitement about that game and most reviews are positive, but it's more a game that nobody really enjoys and people just play it to be able to say "I am one of the few that have actually managed to learn how that crazy thing works". Correct me if I'm wrong😂
@@jankutac9753 I's true, I have never reached 1943 while playing it with a purpose! Micro management is crazy when you really play it with a purpose :) I love the carrier battles, but they are so few and far between that there is a lot of waiting and convoy management in between. The historical accuracy and scale make it fascinating though.
@@marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161 honestly I was also considering it, read a bit of the manual, watched videos on how to play it etc, but luckily an honest person on reddit told me there's a lot of clicking for things that could have been more automated, and that it's more a list of all ships that took part in the battles, and only then a game that's meant to be played. So I gave up 😂 Have you tried Warplan Pacific? It's supposed to be more enjoyable than WITP. But I'm playing Order of Battle WW2 now. It proves that a turn-based game can be full of action too
@@panagiotisalexandrosriniot3368 The campaign game is not at all like SC-World at War, and there are many other scenarios at a different scale that are operational level. I've played all the different SC games and spent about 10 hours on this one today. Definitely different in many regards.
it's a hex-based war game. and this one is prettier than most. if you are ignorant of the genre, why come here and spread negativity? go play fortnite, kid
Yes hex based wargames are still a think, its ok if you don't like it, not everyone likes every type of game, there's plenty I don't like, different stroke for different folks, that's totally fine.

I was on the Beta doing Multiplayer tests with a bunch of the scenarios. It could be brutal and quite fun. 🔥
I have been waiting for this one. Thank you for doing this!
BOUGHT IT !!!! Of course :) :) :)

So. Moral of the story. Don't pull the US garrison out of Corregidor. Defend Manila. Good to know.
Woot like number 800.
You need to put the Nepal garrison back. It's not a large force at all. But you get Ghurkas from Nepal. You really shouldn't mess with that garrison.
more, please! I enjoy watching you play this
I like it. More please🍿
For a brief moment I thought this was War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition and got very excited.
Anyways game looks very good!
That flamethrower looks off in the intro.

I played it as a kid and loved it.
Great game. Too bad AI was horrible. It was super easy to win the game in 5-6 months max even on hardest difficulty.
The naval side still looks weak. Unsuited to a you go we go system. Still no replacement to Grigsby's WitP.

music was distracting from what you were saying.
I’ll try to turn it down a tad, if it’s no better I’ll turn it off for episode 3.
How does it compare to SC WWII:World at War(other than the smaller theatre) Worth getting if you already have WaW? or Warplan Pacific?
I haven’t played much warplan, I honestly don’t recall world at war well because it’s been so long. I need a bit more time before I haven a definitive point of view.
He Guy i have a question ITS there a Campain that Beginn 1939 or 1937?
Or is Like ever the 1941 the only Date?
1941 isn't the only date, but it is the earliest at this time.
Old style game😮
Can you combine ships into a fleet? Or is it still 1 ship per hex?
1 ship per hex.

For casual gaming this seems nice, but no wargame will ever touch WITPAE.

This seems so 1990's
I wonder if the game will model the fact that New Zealand had the best tank of ww2. The Bob Semple.
Can you play England
No. Also not the Byzantine Empire.
Wrong genre my friend, this is ww2
For someone who has played a number of strategic command wargames you don't seem to know how things function that well.
😂
are you kidding me
what is the difference with the asian map of sc ww2 world at war?
the same map
It’s been awhile since I’ve played world at war. It seemed bigger to me than that but I could be wrong.

This is a new game? It looks at sounds like a 90s rom game. Who is still paying money for stuff like this
