I hear that tone of voice talking about 'having' to research Engineering dept first. Truth is, the US military more than most major world powers has always been engineering forward. From the battle of Trenton to D-Day and even GWOT (so many bases built in so many places no one even knows about) engineering is where the US military puts a lot of resources and attention. West Point was an engineering school before it was anything else.
True, in the first 100 years or so, of West Point, all the top officers would slot into engineering, while infantry was sortta the, you couldn't hack anything else so you end up there type.
They could also make a Mexican American war game.Or maybe a game about the French intervention into the Mexican war.I believe happened in like the 1820s and 30s.No one really talks about it.That the french actually invaded the mexicans too during the civil war two
Hey, so Production Infrastructure is not a city building, you need to get into a different province infrastricture mapmode or UI, where you can choose between agricultural, production, shipyard and some other. It's a little factory icon there.
Just picked this game up off of steam. Have to admit, I have no idea what I'm doing. Started campaign 3 times now and doing about the same as you in this play through. Still learning controls and how to move men around on the battlefield. Fun so far, but lots to learn.
Thanks for the gameplay, sir. Looking forward to the naval side of this as well. This has put this project on my radar, I'll definitely check it out after work.
Point of note: The first moves you were drawing the move along those lines on the map, doing what I did and presuming those are roads. They are not roads, they are boundary lines. Roads look different and no where near as 'smooth' or straight. Have to be careful about that as it leads to drawing march straight through forests way too often.
Prod. Infrastructure is top left icon. Factory building for Hartford. This replaces renting factories, giving prod points over time. Blacksmith shops upgrades those features
Easy DLC would be French & Indian War. Also good would be 1812. Id go ACW before Napoleonic. All of the above based the map foundation this game establishes.
Not advocating for or against the game, just here to say that "subject to change" does not mean that it ever will or even that it will change in a manner you like I don't really get the argument of "subject to change" when people express displeasure at the state of early access, because you have to judge something based on its cureent state, but what it COULD be in time
Entrenched positions give bonuses beyond the usual Cover bonus, such as -25% damage received and sometimes a melee buff. At least that’s how it works in their other games. Sometimes the entrenchment is not worth it though
I haven't played UG: AR, but in my experience with UG: CW riflemen are best used at range on the flank. Shooting into the flank does more morale damage and forces the unit to turn to face the riflemen if they want to shoot back at them, which then leaves their flank exposed to the line infantry. You want to use the extra range of riflemen to shoot while being out of range of being shot at. Also, if a unit tries to get in range of the riflemen withdraw to stay out of range while turning back to shoot, and basically kite the enemy unit. Cavalry is fast enough that this doesn't really work so its best to have cavalry nearby to keep your riflemen from being run down by cavalry.
I am looking forward to it. I think this is one of those games that can really make being the offensive side more interesting, especially if the game does a good job of making it very hard to adequately garrison a massive hostile land.
@@thehistoricalgamer the biggest thing would be needing to balance the guerrilla war aspects, the need to occupy and suppress people who don't want the British there AND most of all represent how the British were not just much further away but didn't have the intention of devoting their full military to the campaign with most being reserved in Britain to defend against France and Spain, as well as the East India Company taking men away to fight in India and garrison that as well. Every other game that covers the same period treats it as a straight up war between two empires, and makes it far to easy for the British to just focus main cities down and overwhelm the Americans.
I got this early access (many months ago) and played it on the easiest difficulty and thought it was way too hard. I absolutely LOVED the Civil War one but this one just didn't do it for me.
Sorry about the job bro, if you are looking for a horrible job that pays well and gives you no time at home and treats you like crap the railroad is always hiring, You can start around 70k
Speaking of Napoleonic game as the next step... As CA left Empire alone and these developers have both ships and land battles... We might get a mix of Total War and Europa Universalis
i'm loving this game so far, i really don't understand the Steam reviews... then again, there are plenty of games i love that didn't do well on steam. But i have faith, i think as the project moves along those reviews will start trending better. But yeah, i love the game so far... been waiting a long time for a proper American Revolution strategy game to come along... TW Empire was fantastic, but that has been around for a while now.
I guess I lucked out, my 2 year old loved going from a crib to his toddler bed and we've never once had a problem with bedtime. As far as the game goes, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. This dev's releases are a mixed bag for me. I loved Civil War but hated Age of Sail. Try not to stress about situations out of your control. You seem like a smart enough guy to be able to roll with the punches and benefit in the long run.
Delighted to see this back Sirrah! It seems like you are well aware of the nuances of the game but may I emphasize the problem of lack of officers last time round? Get them boys to school early I sez! Looking forward to the rest of the campaign. Pax
The taxation argument wasn’t just because taxes existed, the taxation argument was because we were taxed but didn’t get a vote in picking the government, which isn’t true today. Taxation without representation and all that stuff.
Its insane that we still used this type of warfare with rifled muskets in the civil war. These were smoothbore muskets so shots werent anywhere near as accurate.
Was not necessary at least not for the line infantry. They didn't had to aim because they didn't shot at individual targets but at tightly packed infantry formations from a hundred yards away. You load your musket and shoot in the enemy formation and you would obviously hit something so long you didn't shoot to low or to high.
The AI is dumber than dirt in this game. Just rush some soldiers around the enemy and surround them. even if they have a much larger army they will rout and just run back and forth getting picked off and eventually surrender. They won’t try to break through. They won’t try and fight. They will just run around in circles dying. The AI is absolutely TERRIBLE in this game.
Absolutely hated Age of Sail. I'll probably get this though when it's properly released, but only after I've seen the reviews. I'm not pre-ordering shit anymore. We need to change our behaviour if it's supposed to change the behaviour of the gaming studios.
Man, that intro was painfully and consciously overlooking an important aspect of the colonies: Chattel Slavery. Only showing White labourers on daddy's southern plantation is an insult. If it was such a big controversy, just don't have the intro have anything to do with emulating George Washington's plantation upbringing. He was a slaver. Plenty of other "origins" they could've settled for. Instead we get this cartoonish whitewashing of the horror of American slavery. Hell, own it, make it an active part of the game's mechanic. It's a historic game after all.
I haven't seen any gameplay. But the rest of these games suck absolute ass. No blood in a war game? Made by a total war modder but not even as good as total war? Overrated shite.

Always loved this series, hopefully you keep it up
Love this game, nice to see you back. Good luck with the job situation. 💂♀show em cold steel boys.
Looking forward for this game to come out of early access. Nothing against it but I prefer my games to be finished when I buy them.
Sorry to hear that historical gamer well hopefully it won't turn out better for you
Good to hear from you though
This game already looks epic to me. For Founding Fathers!

Unlocking the dragoons honestly saved my campaign
I feel you. my toddler never wants to sleep.
Disappointed. The map is still not accurate. No bridge. Still looks like a somewhat updated Empire Total War, without the ability to build barricades.
its still in early access things a subject to change

Very entertaining video. Better than most of the crap on streaming. I do use streaming services for older movies and tv shows.

Pure frustration at ignoring the apply button repeatedly, good series and explanations though.
