    Here are the top 5 parts that should be replaced on your vintage Honda (or any old motorcycle) that is being made road worthy again.
    It may not be obvious but these parts are related to the safety, reliability and ride-ability of your Honda CB350 / CB360 / CB450 / CB550 (and their related family models). These bikes are 40 to 55 years old, parts like these decay and wear out with age regardless of how they may "look."
    All other parts are subject to inspection but the top 5 should always get swapped on any bike that is going to be ridden.

    I always do the wheel bearings as well. Recently changed them on a CB500T and the ones I removed were scary old with gummy grease. New bearings give you a good feeling at 80mph.

    Found a ‘75 XL250K2 with 699 miles on it. Changed brake shoes, tire tubes and rim strips, rebuilt single carb, cleaned up the ground to get the electrical system functioning again. Had not considered front brake cable or intake rubber. Will get on order! Thanks for the great videos....considering another 1975 Honda. Everything Honda sold in 1975 was awesome. Would love a CL360 Scrambler or CB400F.

    All valid points Brandon !
    I've been a professional mechanic for over 40 years, half of that owning a bike shop !
    Hate to admit to how many of the 5+ items that I really haven't given thought to !
    But truly valid point nonetheless !
    And ONE OF THE CB350's belongs to my wife by the way !

    Great video! I'm a big big fan and avid customer... another great video would be for newbie mechanics, like me, who are trying to do all their own maintenance. Suggestions...
    1. what to look for in a used vintage Honda (e.g. years to purchase, problematic areas, etc.)
    2. what tools to buy for a newbie mechanic (e.g. JIS, lift, must have vs. nice to have, etc.)
    3. daily/weekly maintenance
    4. winterization/de-winterization
    5. take a customer's CB and go over it on video, with their permission of course
    6. problematic areas for CB350, CB360, CB450, etc.
    7. many more...

    Great advice. The only thing I would add would be sprockets along with that new chain.

    • @johnr4459
      @johnr4459 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      agree totally, a new chain on old sprockets not a good idea, the chain will get as shot as the sprockets in no time.
      sprockets are cheap chains are not

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say when on a budget check the wear because some of these old bikes have hardly been ridden and the sprockets are in great shape! But if they're worn of course replace them.

  • @SageSavage

    Solid list. I tried running a drive chain too long and it broke and fucked up some other stuff.
    I tried running with new tubes but with the old rim strips and the tube got punctured.

    Plus Carburetor O-Ring Kit. Noticed the carbs on the CB360 were leaking out fuel when over on the side stand. Found that the rubber ring sealing the bowls had gone solid and flat so didnt seal any more.

    Do you recommend changing tubes with every tire change? I do, but seems I trashed a lot of good tubes, just wanted your recommendation. Thanks for the video. Learned lots of good stuff for my 72 cb450.

      @Common-motor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh well we don't see tires being changed often enough to waste a lot of tubes. I'd say yes in almost every case change the tubes and rim strips if its been over a year. But truly thats up to you!

      Reach out to our support on our website, we can get them for you!

  • @peterjones6945
    @peterjones6945 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Manufacturers recommend 4 years for brake lines even though they do last longer. 40 years is stretching things way too far. Regulator/rectifier real good upgrade as it will 'load balance' at idle and some 360's will actually show a slight charge.. I've chased a $23,000 'Paul Smart' Ducati at 90+mph on 35 yr old tyres, stupid but not dead yet. The Conti's I fitted later though inspired a lot more confidence

    • @Common-motor

      It all depends on carb design. There should be some sort of choke or flood valve on the carbs for starting.

    Hello I cant tell what size inner tube I will need it's for a 1975 cb360t ?

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CB360 uses 18" tires! Check your tire to see whether its under or over 3.5" to help you know which 18" tube to order.

    Let's not forget spark plug caps--and trim back the wires a quarter inch to cut off the corroded wires. A lot of guys spend hours and $ trying to figure out why the bike is hard starting/bad running, and this is the problem

    I can't seem to find new front brake pads anywhere for my 1975 Honda CB 200t. Do you sell them? Same goes for the intake manifolds for this model; Do you sell those as well at Common Motor?

    • @johnrolon3577
      @johnrolon3577 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I happen to stumble across "New/Old Stock" for my front mechanical disc brake, should I consider that part to be as old as the bike itself and not purchase and/or use them?

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, if you only need pads that is great. I can get you the name of the model thats still made by vesrah. If anything else is wrong with the caliper though the parts are crazy rare and incredibly expensive. I usually recommend people swapping to the CL200 and CB175/CL175 drum brake setup for the front wheel. The drum brake shoes and cables are readily available and you end up spending less money than on caliper parts for the CB200t. For the intake manifolds unfortunately you are looking for the two hardest to find parts. If you have manifolds already and just need the o-rings I have them. Otherwise, you might want to check ebay of course but also with the guys at ricepaddy.com for CB/CL200 intake manifolds. I'd also check on the Facebook owners groups for CB200 owners on Facebook, someone else might be stashing a set that they're willing to sell to a fellow owner in need.

    Mr.Brenden! I have a 1985 Honda CB250N Superdream from my father which is only 12,000 miles. Unfortunately, I do not know what to do - the motorcycle works well when it is idle, and the engine turns very tightly. Unfortunately, when driving, it will not go above 5000RPM and 80km / h.
    I cleaned the carburetors, replaced the needle valves and seals, the air filter and candles - could it be this regulator? Thanks for any suggestions!

    • @victor_iosi
      @victor_iosi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am probably way too late, but I had a similar issue. In the end it was a cord/strip of a lock I kept next to the air intake under the seat. Somehow when driving over appr 80km/hour the cord/strip was sucked into the air take. But when stopped the cord/strip was automatically pushed outside the air intake so I did not see it 😂 and one day it kept stuck in the intake that is how I found out

    2 things. Get yourself a new sealed bottle of brake fluid and completely flush the front brake by bleeding it using that entire bottle. Next, always change both front and rear sprockets when installing a new chain.
