First night of John's tour, and the first time in 12 years he and Mike Portnoy shared the stage. It was great!!
Dave's bass is unfortunately low in this video because they were running a stereo mix and I was filming from the far right side of the mezzanine.

Phenomenal! Love seeing Petrucci and Portnoy back together. I am a huge DT fan and this makes me happy.

Dave LaRule ain't no slouch! He is every bit as good as the other two God's on that stage and deserves to be right up with them!
he's better musician than either of them.
Used to see him every time he came around when he was playing with Steve Morse band way back in the 80's and 90's. One of the absolute best bass players on the planet and so stoked to see him in this outfit with suck sick talent... Right where he belongs!!!!

Dave is a true journeyman bassist. He can play almost anything and fits in to so many situations. You can add stints with G3 and Satriani to his resume, too. Huge fan...
agreed but Tony Levin in Liquid Tension Experiment is the true GOD of the Bass :P
For anyone unfamiliar with Dave Larue, he's one of the greatest progressive bass players on the planet. Used to see him way back in the 80's and 90's when he was with the Steve Morse band. Unfreakingbelievable live and worth seeing live on his own. Totally stoked he's gigging with the likes of Petrucci and Portnoy. Nice pick John!
Seen him at g3, Dixie is where I knew him from....definately a bad ass!
And founder of the Dixie Dregs! Awesome bassist! His work with Joe Satriani on the ‘06 tour was the jam!
Great to see him playing with these guys. Such a good bass player. He was awesome with Steve Morse for so long, amazing in their trio. We got to see them up close in some shows in S. FL in the early 1990s (Southern Steel).
I just saw Dave with The Steve Morse Band on 2/25/23 in Westbury , NY . Great show !
My favorite thing about Mike's playing is that it looks so effortless even though his parts are insane on the set. I saw him play with A7X after The Rev died and he kicked MAJOR ASS on the Nightmare tour!
sadly that was the tour/incident that got Mike kicked out of DT because he wanted to help his friends in need and DT wanted to move on and record the new album. :( we miss MP so so much. DT is still great but without MP its never the same
so so good to have JP and MP playing together again! the dynamic duo. Love the new album by John. My fave prog guitarist along with Alex Lifeson (my original guitar hero). Long live prog rock/metal
I like so much Dave Larue bass playing. He's one of my favorite rock bass player.

Caught them last night in Nashville. 2nd row dead center. How blessed can one be. Still processing what I saw and heard. So much skill and creativity. Almost unbelievable. Sound was flawless!!! Any one of the three made a sound, you heard it. Insane! Took my teenage daughter. Very special bonding experience. Thanks for coming to town guys!!!

I don’t think Portnoy would be able to stand the band they’ve become. Click tracks on every song, same 13 song setlist for a 30 night tour, pre recorded vocals, James’ continuous vocal decline. And James gets a bad rap because, yes aging sucks, and it’s natural, but him and Mike were never on the best of terms anyway. As much as I’d like to see a Mike Portnoy/Dream Theater reunion, looks like odds aren’t in our favor.

@@planetcaravan2925 I don’t know. It’s all too obvious that James’ voice has been in decline for the past 12-15 years but as of recently it’s reached an all time low. I’m not sure they are the kind of guys who can amicably split ways and carry on with a different singer. I just don’t know

Yeah his snare sound so great i dont know why modern production snares sound like shit and not even a snare. LaRue is one of the best bass player out there
@@davidmorneau5260 Amen....especially on LaRue. I live in central Florida and visit the shop he gives lessons at (and I believe he co-owns). Super nice guy....and fiercely talented. He was the perfect choice for that gig. The problem with the snare thing is that these days, there's SO much processing that you can tell if it's the snare we're hearing or if it's the guy at the sound board manipulating the sound. That being said, yes....lot's of cheap mass produced "meh" sounding snares out there on the market. I do really like the Tama SLP line...they're making some KILLER sounding affordable snares. But, short of that, if you're not willing to drop $1K on a snare than you're more than likely going to wind up with a drum you're not real happy with. Don't know if you're familiar with Drum Center of Portsmouth...but, they've done some outstanding snare videos. 👍

I've seen dt many times. G3 with Gilbert and petrucci. This show ranks near top. The way John let's everyones talent shine was just stellar. Got a bass and drum solo and then they did it again and again. Special night.

And one more thing. The songs. Think of all the great guitarist you can. Modern or days gone by. Nooo body write songs that feel so familiar as you listen to them. The themes feel like you could sing along. Like you already know them. Hard to describe what I'm trying to say. The guitar skills are amazing but the SONGS are so accessible. They hook in so deep that you are fully in for every note of the many directions the songs may go. For that reason John Petrucci is the guitar / song king of our era. In my world anyways. Peace out
