Before you gave the answer to the aspirin structure, i gave it a shot myself to see if I actually was taught anything. I did it. Those are called 'hashes and wedges." Wedges are drawn to represent constituents coming OUT of the plane towards you and hashes (or dashes) are drawn to represent constituents going INTO the plane (away from you). Check out the FabioChem videos for more (and more of those are on the way!)
