lilith’s palisman is a white raven! this also means that instead of an owl beast, lilith’s cursed form is a raven beast. as for the palismen needing wings thing: most of the palismen we met up to this episode were birds, but all palismen can fly regardless of if they have wings or not. you’ll also notice when luz stuck her head up to see who was flying the ship, hunter was whistling the theme song! and last thing: if you ever watch amphibia, you’ll meet the guy the plushie under hunter’s pillow is modeled after 👀

Secretly, the Golden Guard's real goal is to capture Mew, and the real reason he stole the palisman is because he mistook the purple cat one that looks like Mew for the actual mythical Pokemon.
Codes: "Seething seas and puppet strings. He" "SEEK TH" Here's an interesting thing: There's a deleted scene from this episode in the vision Belos shows the coven heads at the beginning. In the deleted scene, the Titan stands up in the Human Realm. This also sort of brings up an issue the show has with scale. At some point, Dana said that the Titan was roughly the size of Vermont, which is one of the smaller US states but still WAY too huge to really make sense and MUCH larger than any evidence in the show itself suggests. Vermont is around 160 mi (over 250 km) long, and that size just... doesn't really add up. The Knee would be way too high in the air, and it'd take more than a couple of hours to walk between it and Bonesborough (which is on the Titan's right hand). It's not like it's the only inconsistency with size, either, King's size changes practically every scene... I could go into more detail but I don't really want to. Fun fact, we've actually seen the construction coven head before. He appeared in episode five of season one, before we even met Lilith, he was the one that had the power glyphs. The show is, in fact, not about romance, and Dana has said as much. It's always included as a supporting element of a story, not the other way around. A very popular supporting element, to be sure, though. Lilith's palisman is a raven. Birds are kind of a Clawthorne thing, all of the Clawthornes we know of have have bird palismen. Which makes me wonder what sort of palisman King would have, if he ever got one? I get the feeling he'd name it "Prince" no matter what, though.
Fun fact about this episode: The composer, Brad Breeck, uploaded the score to each episode of season 2 after they aired and would use a gif from the episode for the video. For this one, he accidentally used a deleted scene that was fully animated but changed late in production without his knowledge. The scene at the beginning where they see a preview of the Day of Unity originally showed the titan they live on coming back to life and looming over that cityscape in the foreground.
One thing I really appreciate about Hunter's character design is that he has a lot of features that are usually portrayed as unattractive, or exaggerated for comedic effect, but drawn in a way that makes them just look... Normal. Like, he's got the gap teeth, the big facial scar, the hooked nose, the eye bags and the really heavy eyebrows, but none of those things are ever even remarked upon or singled out. Same as how Willow is bullied, but not for being fat, because her being fat is treated as a completely normal part of her.
This is literally genius: when you take the first letter from every episode with Hunter having character developement (appart from beeing the golden guard) you get a word that just fits his whole plot. There is one episode with him in it that doesn't count, but he also doesn't have personal developement in this episode.
Fun Fact Time! Our little birdy buddy is a male red cardinal. The females are more of a brownish yellow color. There's a little superstition here in the US (dunno if it's a thing overseas) that says if you're visited by a cardinal, it means a loved one is checking in on you from the other side.
The plushie is actually a reference to another show. It's Sprig Planter from "Amphibia," which started several months before The Owl House, and was also about a girl being sent to a strange world. Although in her case, the girl was sent to a world of anthropomorphic amphibians. Hence the name. Amphibia ran for three seasons, and ended back in May of this year. Might be worth looking into when you have the time.
The creator of Amphibia, Matt Braly, worked with Dana on Gravity Falls as a storyboard artist and episode director. His best episode, IMHO, was Northwest Mansion Mystery.

omg my ears are like that too! Being able to sleep on your good ear to block out more noise when you sleep is great! I got a hearing aid for that side but basically never use it because it really helps cut down on my noise sensitivity when I only really have to block the one ear, really convenient for people that talk super loud, just turn my bad ear more towards them or swap ears if I'm on the phone~

I really like that the big twist with Hunter is that he is eventually revealed to be Luz's brother. And not even by blood, but in a sort of magical way! It's so freaky, but such an interesting spin on the found family trope! (Up there I accidentally wrote "Luz's sister" first, and for a moment I considered _not_ correcting it)
Moscow is going to be simping so hard for Eda in episode 8. I think Amity is staying home either to avoid Luz or because her mom grounded her for dying her hair (we know Odalia likes Amity to have green hair because, according to Dana, “Mrs. Blight likes her children to be… color coded”). Also palisman don’t have to have wings, but the Clawthorn palisman tend to be birds. I think if I got to carve my own palisman, I’d either make a crow or a rat.
Remember how the Bat Queen used to be a Palisman? Turns out Belos was the owner, but when she left him he lost the source of his power and has had to consume smaller Palisman to maintain it. This is why she is so defensive of lost or runaway Palisman.
I can see people have mentioned already that the plushie under Hunter’s pillow is a character from Amphibia, but also- the little figurine on his shelf is a character from Big City Greens who has the same VA as Hunter! 7:00 Apparently, Amity was struck down with a bad case of plottitis. It's a little understood disease that often afflicts suporting characters, especially romantic interests, and stops the tension between them and the main character from interfering with the plot.

“You should forget about it before you’re hurt” I’ve watched this episode and reactions to it so many times and somehow never picked up on him saying this. I guess I didn’t realize just how much of his true character was revealed, since this is where we officially meet HUNTER not “the golden guard”. His golden guard persona is a complete act. He can hide behind his mask and be “cool”. But Hunter is compassionate. He worries that Luz experimenting with wild magic will hurt HER. Didn’t even mention hurting someone else with it. He’s genuinely worried for her safety in this scene. He’s also insecure and ashamed about his interest in wild magic because he thinks it’s so dangerous. He’s always genuinely believed he was the good guy. The Belos is good. That they both have an interest in protecting the people that live there, even an outsider like Luz. I obviously knew all this after future episodes but I didn’t really pick up on it at this point in the show, even tho looking back it’s so obvious.

Here's an interesting thing: There's a deleted scene from this episode in the vision Belos shows the coven heads at the beginning. In the deleted scene, the Titan stands up in the Human Realm. This also sort of brings up an issue the show has with scale. At some point, Dana said that the Titan was roughly the size of Vermont, which is one of the smaller US states but still WAY too huge to really make sense and MUCH larger than any evidence in the show itself suggests. Vermont is around 160 mi (over 250 km) long, and that size just... doesn't really add up. The Knee would be way too high in the air, and it'd take more than a couple of hours to walk between it and Bonesborough (which is on the Titan's right hand). It's not like it's the only inconsistency with size, either, King's size changes practically every scene... I could go into more detail but I don't really want to.
Fun fact, we've actually seen the construction coven head before. He appeared in episode five of season one, before we even met Lilith, he was the one that had the power glyphs.
The show is, in fact, not about romance, and Dana has said as much. It's always included as a supporting element of a story, not the other way around. A very popular supporting element, to be sure, though.
Lilith's palisman is a raven. Birds are kind of a Clawthorne thing, all of the Clawthornes we know of have have bird palismen. Which makes me wonder what sort of palisman King would have, if he ever got one? I get the feeling he'd name it "Prince" no matter what, though.

Fun fact about this episode: The composer, Brad Breeck, uploaded the score to each episode of season 2 after they aired and would use a gif from the episode for the video. For this one, he accidentally used a deleted scene that was fully animated but changed late in production without his knowledge. The scene at the beginning where they see a preview of the Day of Unity originally showed the titan they live on coming back to life and looming over that cityscape in the foreground.

One thing I really appreciate about Hunter's character design is that he has a lot of features that are usually portrayed as unattractive, or exaggerated for comedic effect, but drawn in a way that makes them just look... Normal. Like, he's got the gap teeth, the big facial scar, the hooked nose, the eye bags and the really heavy eyebrows, but none of those things are ever even remarked upon or singled out. Same as how Willow is bullied, but not for being fat, because her being fat is treated as a completely normal part of her.
This is literally genius: when you take the first letter from every episode with Hunter having character developement (appart from beeing the golden guard) you get a word that just fits his whole plot. There is one episode with him in it that doesn't count, but he also doesn't have personal developement in this episode.
Fun Fact Time! Our little birdy buddy is a male red cardinal. The females are more of a brownish yellow color. There's a little superstition here in the US (dunno if it's a thing overseas) that says if you're visited by a cardinal, it means a loved one is checking in on you from the other side.

The plushie is actually a reference to another show. It's Sprig Planter from "Amphibia," which started several months before The Owl House, and was also about a girl being sent to a strange world. Although in her case, the girl was sent to a world of anthropomorphic amphibians. Hence the name. Amphibia ran for three seasons, and ended back in May of this year. Might be worth looking into when you have the time.

omg my ears are like that too! Being able to sleep on your good ear to block out more noise when you sleep is great! I got a hearing aid for that side but basically never use it because it really helps cut down on my noise sensitivity when I only really have to block the one ear, really convenient for people that talk super loud, just turn my bad ear more towards them or swap ears if I'm on the phone~

I think Amity is staying home either to avoid Luz or because her mom grounded her for dying her hair (we know Odalia likes Amity to have green hair because, according to Dana, “Mrs. Blight likes her children to be… color coded”).
Also palisman don’t have to have wings, but the Clawthorn palisman tend to be birds. I think if I got to carve my own palisman, I’d either make a crow or a rat.

Remember how the Bat Queen used to be a Palisman? Turns out Belos was the owner, but when she left him he lost the source of his power and has had to consume smaller Palisman to maintain it. This is why she is so defensive of lost or runaway Palisman.

“You should forget about it before you’re hurt” I’ve watched this episode and reactions to it so many times and somehow never picked up on him saying this. I guess I didn’t realize just how much of his true character was revealed, since this is where we officially meet HUNTER not “the golden guard”. His golden guard persona is a complete act. He can hide behind his mask and be “cool”. But Hunter is compassionate. He worries that Luz experimenting with wild magic will hurt HER. Didn’t even mention hurting someone else with it. He’s genuinely worried for her safety in this scene. He’s also insecure and ashamed about his interest in wild magic because he thinks it’s so dangerous. He’s always genuinely believed he was the good guy. The Belos is good. That they both have an interest in protecting the people that live there, even an outsider like Luz. I obviously knew all this after future episodes but I didn’t really pick up on it at this point in the show, even tho looking back it’s so obvious.
