Set Up Your SAROO in 3 minutes - feel free to stay to the end though!

- This is the optional accompaniment to my Sega Saturn video, I decided to make this separately as this is more of a simple setup guide than entertainment and so unless you've got a Saturn and a SAROO then this video would be 'mildly interesting' at most haha.
The first 3 minutes are straight to the point. In fact, if you're like me, you'd rather just read the description, so here you are, speedy-pants:
1) Grab a Micro SD card
2) Format it to ExFat, 64kb allocation unit size
3) Create a folder called SAROO and inside that, a folder called ISO and another called UPDATE
4) Grab firm_v0.6.zip from the github link below
5) Take the 3 files (mcuapp.bin, saroocfg.txt and ssfirm.bin) and place in your own SAROO folder on the SD card
6) Place your 'backup games' into the ISO folder. Each game should have its own folder, named appropriately for the game, and inside the game folder you need the game in .BIN and .CUE format
7) Edit the saroocfg.txt so that "lang_id = 1" to change the menu to English
8) Add a line beneath that to say "sort_mode =1" this makes sure the games are listed in alphabetical order
9) Save the file, put it into your SAROO, put that in your Saturn and go play Sega Rally Championship
Check it out in action on this video's big brother:

Thanks as always to my wonderful subscribers and eternal thanks to my insane Patreons.
For FREE on my Patreon, you will find the custom background I made for this video, should you be so inclined - just save the file and stick it in your SAROO folder on your SD card. You're welcome! Link here:

Perfect video on how to set up your Saroo. Straight forward, easy to follow and well narrated. Great work. One thing though - I can't believe you painted over the LED's and removed the label!
Admittedly mine is slightly different - got it from Gamophile at Ali Express - and the quality of the label is excellent and doesn't look tacky.
Nonetheless, a superb 'how to' guide. Thanks very much 🙂
Thank you so much! I basically made a video that I needed when I wanted to know how.
Yeah the LEDs I found so distracting, I can remove the paint if I needed to, or put a pin prick in the paint to allow some light through but it’s cool as it is :) thanks again!
I Like the 3 LEDs 😅
Awesome video! I'll be getting my Saroo in a week or two so I'm looking forward to it, and this is a HUGE help!
Ah I’m so glad to hear that, I believe it can get a lot more complex but this’ll get you off the ground I hope :)
Saved so when I get one I can circle back to this video. 👏
Haha that’s the sort of thing I’d do :) hope you don’t have to wait too long!
Fantastic video. Here's my sub.
Awesome, thanks Paul! It’s not my usual type of video but thought it would be handy to have a quick set up guide. Glad you liked!
@@ScottMadeAThing I received a Saroo as a xmas gift after selling my Mode-equipped pal model 2 Saturn recently and I decided to set it up today. I've set up a JP Model 1 machine with the Saroo this afternoon. Class.
There’s a video out if anyone is using a saroo cart & if the games are struggling / faults with their audio , it shows a workaround , only happens on certain motherboard revisions of the Saturn , so not all of them . It’s title is - SAROO Audio Glitch Fix for Sega Saturn Model 1 (No Soldering needed)
Good shout! :)
But I have model 2
I have the very early Japan Model 1 "B2" maybe the first or second Revision, will i have Problems with the Saroo?
Good straight forward video & tip with the leds , I prefer not to see them ether
It was a bit janky, and definitely my fault for going with a clear case! I mean the LEDs are there for a reason but way too bright. If I had more time I could have maybe replaced the resistors with higher values but knowing my luck that’d break everything haha.
I think all the saroo carts are transparent, or the ones I’ve seen out there
Could make your Saturn look even worse by going with one those clear top motherboard hacks which deletes the disk drive altogether & uses a cheap psu too , their not even cheap
Omg they’re horrific and need to be banned 😂
Great video. Where did you order the Saroo?
Thank you! I got it from AliExpress, from a seller called Gamophile Store, I can’t link the exact item I bought as it is no longer available but they seem to be selling others, oddly enough they are different prices and I can’t tell why at a brief glance. I paid £35.29 for mine.
Does installing this software give it 4mb+1mb card simulator and it give function to the saroo as the action replay and other or not? Unless there no softwares that make it do that and it's a hardware issue? (This is based my saroo that said that can't do that, I wonder if I can change the software to make it do that)
I’m not entirely sure, the listing said it ‘Supports 1mb and 4mb’ and I think there are 4 little RAM chips on the board but can’t be sure. I’ve had to pack it away due to space requirements at the moment otherwise I’d test it. Maybe it depends on the version of the board and/or the firmware? Hmmmm…
There is an Option you can Play 1 and 4 MB direct from Console, didnt need the Cartridges.
Maybe the Saroo, uses the Software option
@@tobiaskraft6695 how?
Thank you.
Do the games need to be in their own folders or can you just drop the .bin and . Cue files in the ISO folder?
Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I actually don’t know the answer, I’ve got it packed away at the moment, although have just got a nice big CRT TV so will be getting it set up for that after I’ve finished working on my latest video.
It can’t hurt to give it a try either way, I know you can make folders to organise games so maybe the folder structure is more forgiving than it might seem :)
You skipped by how to insert the sd card
Haha I already felt I might be insulting the viewers intelligence by showing how to move files. I should have shown how to eject the SD card though as that thing pings out and hits the ceiling if you aren’t careful haha
