I love what he says about expecting doctors to be nutritional experts during a five-ten minute office visit but good nutrition should be taught in schools.

You absolutely can buy fresh, whole food with food stamps. It is left up to the consumer to do that as you can also buy crappy junk food with food stamps. What has happened in many urban neighborhoods is that dollar store type stores have forced out small mom and pop groceries that provided neighborhoods with fresh whole foods. Consumers in these areas found that these franchise establishments provided so many cheap and desirable products that they started shopping at them almost exclusively. Small groceries could not compete and were forced to close. You might be able to buy cheap soda, crackers, tuna and tooth brushes at a dollar store but they don't offer fresh fruit and vegetables. This has created a real food crises in urban areas for people who are not able to travel longer distances to buy their groceries. They wind up living on boxed and canned products that are high in sodium, fat, and sugar, while also being low in fiber and nutrients.

Dr. Fuhrman just blew me away with his statement about the wild predators. To summarize what I got from it, a lion that eats just enough when the food is scarce, it's brain will send a signal for it to live as long as possible for the survival of the lion and also for it's off spring. However, a lion who is over consuming, it's brain will send a signal for it to die earlier for the sake of the survival of the prey as well as the survival of the species that requires that prey to exist. This really explains why the greatest factor in longevity has been shown to be under eating. It may also show why eating meat itself is particularly dangerous.Does our brain think that we are predators that are over consuming meat; that need to die earlier for the sake of the survival of our species and the survival of our prey that we are eating? It also shows how symbiotic our relationship is with nature around us. This is absolutely fascinating!

Dr. Fuhrman is a visionary and genius in terms of his leadership in the nutrition movement. I completely disagree with one of his points, however. He said doctors should not be obligated to know about nutrition. He said they are pharmacologists. Bullshit. Their job is to know about health and to pass that information on to their patients. Pharmacists are the experts on pharmacology. His view toward customers is passive if he thinks doctors are supposed to just pass out medications. Is his point well-taken that we need to be interested in our own well-being? Absolutely. It is a partnership between a person and their doctor -- BOTH are obligated to learn about nutrition!

Oh, my God. Fuhrman on kids. That was so beautiful. I want my kids to fit in, speaking of krispy kremes at soccer games. Oh, that's a great way to parent. So, if they're all smoking and doing cocaine, do that too. Kids don't want to be ordered around, of course, that won't work. They want your time and love and to teach them / explain things to them. I was just dealing with this at Thanksgiving. And I was really wishing I could change my brothers and sisters and my parents, but I can explain to my kids. I also like Fuhrman saying I would never give out food - he didn't say healthy or unhealthy - but yo yo's can't raise objections. When he elaborates around 33:00, It's just beautiful.

I am a neonatal nurse. One time, a patient was receiving breastmilk via a feeding pump. His mom was very obese. Her milk in the feeding bag formed a layer of OIL on top of the milk, it basically separated out of her milk. It literally looked like oil straight out of corn chips or tacos. It completely grossed me out and I made sure not to mix the oil back into milk, so at least my patient wouldn't receive the full dose. But imagine she was breastfeeding him. Plus of course, the genetic damage even prior to and during pregnancy is a whole other dimension. It's disturbing.

Such an excellent and empowering interview! Makes total sense too given how Dr. Fuhrman makes his knowledge so understandable. Thank you both. I have a question that relates to my son. I along with my husband and daughter have become vegan and SOS free, and we have seen and continue to see great results on many levels. My son who is 20 is very resistant, and in part because his level of addiction to processed foods and milk is so high. But my son is also very thin, and loses weight easily even as he eats meat, dairy, and processed foods. He is worried that going vegan will cause him to lose a lot more weight, make him less "attractive" to women and that he will have to eat a lot in order to get what he believes is the the high protein amount he gets from milk. Do you have any advice?

Why not expect doctors to know?!? They need to get more educated! Actually, in ancient times, doctors knew about their patients through their Natal Chart. In other words, depending on how their NC was laid out, the doctor knew how to track what body part should be addressed. Pretty cool.

I learned nutrition in school: there's four basic food groups: meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, and refined grains. So, I concluded jokingly (knowing this couldn't be true but having no understanding why) that pizza was health food. Pepperoni, cheese, tomato sauce, and flour crust.

From a strictly scientific point of view everything Dr Fuhrman says is correct. However I find he is too extreme for the average person. I think Dr McDouglall presents a more balanced approach to a healthy and satisfying diet. For me it would be a pretty miserable life to restrict starchy foods on top of meat, fish, eggs and dairy. We definitely need to eat nutrient dense foods but we also need starchy foods in order to feel satisfied. Eating should be a joyous occasion.

For those many who never notice these states it is just not your time yet, but a lot of us notice and are waking now from this dream. For example how could Fuhrman, a well practiced, well known MD, health and wellness practitioner and author not know and seem surprised to hear that the tobacco companies where sued? 18:50

I dont want my legg chopped off cause the doctor thinks there is no cure when if he knew a chane of diet would save my legg..😒 I dissagree with Dr.Furman on this one. Shelly Horton Palmer, I have to disagree. Physicians are a for profit business. So are the insurance companies. It would be wonderful if it was all charity and all doctors did no harm. That's not the reality though. A doctor will basically give you five minutes of time and a prescription that meets the guidelines of the insurance and medical boards.

I think the fast-food genocide is a killer title. Though sadly the way I see it, it's more of a fast food suicide. If you show people a full-on rainbow salad without oil and sugar in the dressing of course and pizza and fries and ask them what the most nutritious calories would be, I think most people are smart enough to point to that salad, however if you ask them which of the two they'd feel like having when "hungry", 99% of those same people will go with the pizza and fries, cause easy, availble, they're used to it, to young to care about health, I don't know that's just my experience trying to educate people on the dangers of fast food, but I defintely hope you and Dr. Fuhrman are more succesfull. Great interview anyway!

Does bread made from whole sprouted grains also trigger depression from dr’s perspective? Or does he mean white baked breads only

As per previous conversation. AJ......if you had just explained what you were doing I wouldv’e totally gotten it. It was out of concern for the other guest. Not thin skinned, have heard and seen much much worse, just totally uncalled for. I can learn from others from here on in. The world is unkind enough.

I didn’t like when he said, “did you hear what I said?!” He sounded like he was yelling at her at certain points. I get he’s passionate, but he should mind his tone/delivery.

That's just the way he talks. "Do you follow me?" he says all the time. I will say I really couldn't stand him when I first started studying the plant based doctors. I would turn him off when he came on a video. I can't recall exactly when I "had" to watch something he was in; it may have been on a panel discussion. But I thought to myself, "Hey, this guy makes total sense." Then I started watching him regularly and his message for nutritional excellence is really common sense when you really think about it. He is now my favorite.

Not a timely book. Ppl already know how awful the fast food industry is. Ppl. Nowadays are choosing healthier alternatives. Good luck though.

The book is not about the Fast Food industry, although I understand your assumption. He is referring to high GI foods that raise your blood sugar quickly.....processed and refined foods.

I think AJ should pay more attention to the honored guest and not concentrate on what she's going to say next.
