  • Knee arthritis not only affects the knee joint, but how well the knee moves, the muscles, and ligaments and tendons.
While we can't change what happens to the bone, we are able to help increase range of motion, fluid movement, and strength. All of these lead to a decrease in pain and an increase in function:)

Hi Dr. Kristie, as an RA sufferer, I've found your exercises really helpful, and it's the first time that I've seen most of them. It's in my head now "Motion is Lotion" and I've found this to be true over the years. Thank you🌹

Good you said no pain. Tried the straightening of the leg in bed on my back with back of knee flattening to mattress. Moring stretching after waking up. There was instant pain on full straightening. Both knees have no interior cartilage left and were acting up.
Got shots in left knee which gave some relief. Resumed rowing regularly on my Concept 2 rower and resistance on my old Total Gym 35 yrs old I think.
Generally stretch my hams on a desk height table with a pillow under the knee and leg slightly bent. Hold 30 seconds to a minute 3 times each leg. Did a 3 mile hike with switch backs and no problems with knees after about three weeks of the row + resistance and stretching.
Pleasantly surprised. I had laid off for a couple of weeks and got stiff.
Muscles most likely to lock up on me at night are abductors (inside thigh). I've found getting up and walking around best with massaging the contact points helpful also.
Looking forward to trying many of the stretch and strengthening moves you do. The fluidity of your movements is inspiring, very graceful.
Thankfully I enjoy stretching and you cover all areas in your vids. I sort of copy the ballet moves a bit in loosening up the sides with arm over head and gently leaning sideways with leg on table stretching hams simultaneously. Feels great when done.
OK that's enough ranting from old guy here. Thx Dr K

Hi, I feel I need to try these exercises as although I walk a couple of miles 3 or 4 times a week, I struggle to kneel on the floor, get up again, and cannot sit right back on my heels, my knees are too stiff with limited motion, any suggestions for this? Also in another of your videos you showed how to 'move' the knee cap a little, side to side, up & down - mine will not move at all, it's like a solid mass all around it!?

Great job I hope these help. I had a hausner transfer done in the mid 90's. Apparently it was state of the art treatment for a dislocated knee cap then not any more. It changed the dynamics of my knee and caused arthritis over the years. My knee hyperextends backwards now any exercises that can help with this. My knee replacement is indefinitely postponed due to COVID19 restrictions in my health region.

Thanks for your videos. I feel your videos need modified exercises for people who are older, overweight and stiff bodies, which is usually the types of people with these problems in your videos. Most people who have these arthritis symptoms can not get in the floor and definitely can't lift their leg to the height of a chair. So, sitting, standing or laying in the bed exercises would be beneficial as well. Take care!

Hi Doc, question, i have pain on the inside of my iliac crest, any idea what muscles or whatever run through there that I could maybe stretch or something. It started 10+ years ago when i was in a car accident, i was a passenger and my seatbelt was laying on that area when we got hit. No one can tell me why I have pain there, i can put my finger right where it hurts, but since nothing is broken no one wants to try and figure it out. So im curious what it could possibly be. Thanks for any input.

As a certified trainer doing personal training and group bootcamps I agree with the suggested exercises but was disappointed with your body positioning Dr. Kristie Ennis. Proper body mechanics sitting posture for sitting exercises should have the legs at 90/90 degree angles. In the video the hips are much higher than alignment to the knees sitting on the stool; which does not allow for the 90/90 leg angle.
