I really appreciate your mention of connecting the muscles around the knee with the brain. “Turning on the muscle” as physical therapists call it. I’ve learned that PTs know more about the body and the brain connections than most health providers. The problem is PTs are seriously busy. They have almost no time to explain anything. The greatest value of your videos for me are your explanations. So insightful. So helpful!
Absolutely, the luxury of my platform is that I get the chance to explain things in full (although some people do say I talk too much!) but I think it's important that people understand why I suggest what I do, so that they can make informed decisions about their care.
@@HT-PhysioI don't think you talk too much, you are explaining, there are people talking way more than you and they aren't even saying anything, go you 😊
@janjenkinson1829 re; music - yes - agreed - so annoying. @HT-Physio is this the only video you have on developing the neuro connection to the muscle / joint? I have seen another on proprioception. My interest is for my 87yo Mum who suffers from terrible knee & ankle OA, she has had a 3 month stint in the hospital / rehab / transition care areas (she had to go back to acute when she was in transition care the first time around for some tests then an interventional 'scope (was diagnosed with achalasia & had botox injected - anyway despite having made progress with her walking (with a 4WF) before that she got very deconditioned waiting for the barium & 'scope being only allowed fluids & then fasting (the 'scope got postponed a few times). We have been taking her to a gym for machine strength training over the 7 weeks since & although there is certainly progress - some days seem better than others & do think we need to focus on the proprioception and neuro connection - so I am going to keep looking out for videos on this topic. I bought your book- Mum has that with her now while she has a little break with her sister & their cousin in their home in the country.
Bula (Hello) Will, from Fiji. I came upon your site by 'accident' and followed up on more presentations. As one ages there are more areas needing attention and help.. What I like is the simplicity and clarity of your explanation along with the demonstration. I will be 81 at the end of the week and your programmes are a very useful birthday gift! Vinaka(Thankyou)
Happy birthday! Bathing in the sun and in the ocean are good for the health too . With HTphysio and the island privileges, now, you have everything to be happier 🎉. I wish you all the best.
Greetings to you in in Fiji - thank you so much for watching, I'm so pleased my videos have been useful - Happy birthday to you for this week, I hope you have a wonderful celebration!
So appreciate your videos Will…I have an arthritic right knee that I have been working on, but I also have some sciatica pain down that right leg, and it is easy for me to get confused about which are good/not good exercises to 1) help the knee and 2)avoid aggrevating the sciatica! I am going to go back through your videos on the sciatica, but if you have some suggestions, I am so open. BTW, I have been doing non-weight bearing exercises for my knee for 3 months now, and the knee is definitely better! Just wish I could not get the sciatica to calm down!
Hello Will, I am a.sr. citizen 78 years old.I try to follow all your exercises as per my requirement. Your exercises are all very good & easy to follow. My problem is that the flexion at my knee joints is less than 90 degrees also. Please show some exercises to increase flexion at my knee joints. Thanks. God bless you.
Thank you so much for your generous gift, please do not feel obliged to give anything at all, your viewership and time to leave a comment is all the thanks I can ask! Have a great weekend ☺
IMO Will is the best exercise communicator I have come across. Every movement is explained in detail, together with correct execution and goals. Will is a life changer for me! Many thanks.
Delighted to have found you on line. I have a torn meniscus and these exercises are some of the ones I have been given to do but it really helps to see you demonstrate how to do it and the way you take it slowly. I am a bit impatient and I have not been doing my exercises properly, that's for sure. I am very glad I have subscribed to you.
Thank you for subscribing - I'm so pleased that my video is able to act as a guide for your exercises! Keep up the great work and I'm sure you'll reap the rewards :)
I've been helped greatly by your knee exercises, thank you for all you put into your clarity and good order in explaining step after step. I am interested in your Three Tip Friday Emails. Thank you!
Great teaching and training video! Thank you Will. I’m only 66 years young, fairly strong for medium/slim build, but sometimes do have pain in my knees. I know those exercises will really help me! Lord bless you 😊. Keep up the great work. I just subscribed to your videos 😊
I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing pain in your knees, I hope my videos can offer some beneficial advice! Thank you for subscribing, it means a lot to me :)
Hi Will, so good to see these exercises. They are some of the ones I was given by NHS physio when I was first diagnosed with arthritic knees & struggled with stairs & simply walking. They are marvellous exercises & I have improved so much I can now do 15 squats. I'm even thinking of returning to Pilates, I had stopped going because it became too painful. I have your book which is so nice 👍 informative, beautifully written & easy to follow. Many thanks for all your great videos.
When I was 21 I was told I had signs of wear and tear arthritis. Cycling was recommended to me because of the lack of weight bearing. Apparently the pivotal motion is good for the knees. I eas told not to ever lock out knees when doing weights either, like the leg extension machine. Stop just short of leg extension.
The leg extension does strengthen the small diamond shaped muscle closest to the knee on the inside front of the leg. I can't remember the name of it, but you can feel it flex just before the leg is completely straight. If you don't completely straighten your leg, you won't feel it. That muscle helps keep the knee cap from shifting too much. I like the tip with the resistance band on the chair leg. Thanks.
I appreciate all your videos. I’m 74 been very fit a,though in the last 15 I have been crushed by a cow, died, drowned, fallen down 12 stone steps - all these left no broken bones the only thing is frozen shoulders from the drowning. After all of them I was back at the gym, long walks. Now to my horror and disgust I’m stiff when I get out of the car and it takes time to get moving. Still going to gym and walking. Can you suggest anything to get rid of the stiffness and odd pains?
I appreciate your videos so much especially since I've had knee replacement surgery last July and I'm still struggling with pain and stiffness. I can't seem to do the bridge at all at least not on the bed It seems like I'm not lifting up is there any suggestions that might help give me more strength to do that? Thank you for your time and for all your wonderful videos!! Lisa
I’ve been enjoying your book and your You Tube channel. As someone who’s already been told that I will be needing both knees replaced (with no recommendation for PT), I am doing all I can to delay the operations. I also have been focusing on going up the stairs correctly which helps quite a bit as well. Thank you!
Bridges - i use a medium size ball and squeeze it between my knees as i do the bridge, engages more of the inner thighs, knees gluts etc than just plain Bridge.

I find when I do straight leg raises that my femur rotates into external rotation. I have very tight hips and am trying to work up strength in hips and knees. Should I fix alignment before strength or will strength help improve alignment? I am worried that if I strengthen misaligned legs it may make it worse. Great videos by the way, concise, clear and practical. I would like some guidance on alignment issues in future if possible, I think a lot of pain and weakness is coming from uncorrected misalignment.
Makes sense! I do weighted squats and I work through the pain but I may do pilates coupled with this for a while and give my knees a break! thank you so much!!
I've been loving your videos! I do have a question about the sitting knee extensions. I thought you said in another one of your videos that locking the knee is not good for knee arthritis. Should this exercise be done with a slightly bent knee?
