    When we started planning a trip to my hometown in Central Pennsylvania, one thing we really wanted to do was learn more about the Amish. I grew up close to the Amish my whole life so I knew the general things like they used horse and buggies instead of cars and couldn't have electricity. However, we wanted to know more. And in this USA Travel Vlog we do just that!
    We spent days searching for an Amish homestay - somewhere you could actually live with the Amish and interact with them. We found some that offered Amish homes, however you stayed there by yourself. We found more that were obviously not real Amish as they had electricity. Then we eventually stumbled upon one Amish Homestay that seemed it could be authentic. We decided to book it for two nights and document our experience to see how authentic it actually was.
    On our Amish adventure weekend we went to Lancaster Pennsylvania - the heart of Amish Country Pennsylvania. We started at The Amish Village - a kind of museum about the Amish. We decided to do the Amish farmhouse tour where they take you through their old Amish house from 1840 and give you lots of information about the Amish. After the house you can walk around the rest of the 'village' which has a barn, an Amish one room schoolhouse, an Amish store, buggies, and more. It was a great place to start our day and we learned a lot, even though there were no actual Amish people there. After the Amish Village, we drove to our Amish homestay. We were greeted by the Amish couple and shown around the house. We were surprised at how authentic of an experience it was! The couple is indeed Amish with no electricity, no cars, a line phone in a booth outside of the house. Typically Amish don't take pictures, which they agreed with in saying they wouldn't pose for any pictures. However they didn't mind if we took pictures/videos that they happened to be in. For that reason a lot of the video is us explaining our time there as opposed to them talking (to respect their privacy). The highlights of the trip were definitely the home cooked Amish dinner, learning to play shuffleboard, and going on a real Amish horse and buggy ride!!! This was such an amazing experience that we definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning more about the Amish way of life.

    You must come back to Lancaster County, you missed the best sticky bun and cinnamon bread with or without raisins and other specialty breads. On 896 just a couple miles outside of Strasburg. Michael's Home style Breads. Also the most photographed scenery, you can see all the way to Welsh Mountainside.

    They are not the traditional Amish 🙂 I'm not saying they are not Amish just they have decided to step away from the traditional living. For those that don't know, there are several branches of Amish. Also they do not like photos or videos of them as they feel it's breaking God's commandment of engraved images. At least that is what I was told.
    I have ancestors on one side of my family that are Pennsylvania Dutch and I love learning about them.

    • @NataliesPassport
      @NataliesPassport  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yesss - there are different types of Amish. The swartzentrubers are the most strict ones. But these ones were definitely still Amish. I spent the first 18 years of my life with Mennonite neighbors and tons of Amish like 10 minutes away - even this family lived less than an hour from my parents house.
      I highly doubted that ‘real’ Amish would allow people to stay at their house, but the man had an injury which stopped him from working - I think that’s why he’s allowed to let people stay. When we asked about pictures and that he said they won’t pose for any pictures, but if we take pictures as they’re working, etc it’s okay (again I think that was his personal decision as he has met so many English people and had so many people stay at his house that I’m sure have asked if they could take photos). Overall it was a really enlightening experience that I definitely recommend if you’re in the area!!
