I feel like the stigma around ADHD made me resistant to my diagnosis. Once I was able to accept is and try to address it, I was a lot happier. These myths get in the way.
I so appreciate everything I learn from this podcast about adhd that helps me be more understanding and empathetic to those I know with adhd. It also means a lot to me to be able to teach my kids about neurodiversity so these hurtful myths aren’t perpetuated. Thanks for your knowledge and vulnerability!
Most of the times, I will just sleep on "boring" event and just wanna get out of there, but whenever I sleep, they will get annoyed and just judge me like, "can you just resist yourself from sleeping?". I just like, "no, I can't. I can't make you understand either". Yeah, it's kinda sad people don't understand about ADHD as a whole.
The comment that frustrates me the most is “Isn’t everyone a little ADHD?” No. The people that have the diagnosis are severely affected in every aspect of their lives.
Two things . . . Scene - Meeting with a mental health professional. Me: . . . What is this? Medical Professional: Why do you ask? Me: Did you and my therapist work this up for me? MP: . . . No, this is our primary diagnostic for ADHD. Me: Do I look like a little boy that can’t sit still to you? MP: Nope and I’m still fairly positive you have ADHD. 6 weeks of hyperfocus later . . . Me: Ohhhhhhhhhh . . . Thank goodness that I was lucky enough to have a medical professional with personal experience see what nobody else had. I was 37. Second thing: Other medical professional: Oh, I’m forgetful all the time! 🤦♀️ (Me: I’m sure you didn’t lock your keys in the car 5 times in one week, shouldn’t you know better than to minimize my diagnosis?) Thank you Coach for this video, busting these ADHD myths and changing lives!
Great stuff! So helpful. At about the 20-minute mark, I APPRECIATE your recipe for success at work: concentrate YOUR WORK on what you do well and delegate or work with a team that can cover your weak spots. This is a universal truth for all people in all trades, but really important for those of us who are neurodivergent. In a word...shameless Collaboration will bring out the best in each of us!
I was diagnosed with combined type adult adhd. I also have anxiety disorder GAD and major depressive disorder. Life is a new struggle everyday. And 5 + years of waiting for help from SSI 😢
Everyone has adhd, your so lazy, why do get so emmotional, you take things too seriously, why can’t you just do what your supposed to. Can you do a job about being in college with adhd, another idea is finances, organization, time management I have so many ideas
The laziness comment makes me so sad. Most people just don’t understand executive function disorders. I’m so sorry you have struggled with these issues. You are not alone! And we know you are not lazy! 💙
I have ADHD and dyscalculia. I don't need coaching, books, or another app. I need a service to take care of my money. Anyone know of a legit company that does that?
This is the best episode yet!

Agreed. What myth was the most frustrating for you?
So sorry that the stigma held you back. Glad the world is changing around ADHD Awareness.

My favorite myth is: “just use a calendar or a planner - that’ll fix everything!” Not that easy, friends.
For sure. It’s a process.
Thanks Ryan!

Amen Michelle! ❤ You’re not alone!
Another myth- ADHD is way more than just a lack of focus and being too hyper but that is all the DSM really defines it as.
Absolutely this!
For sure. RSD is real and needs to get official for ADHD diagnosis.

Yes! Let’s all collaborate and be our best selves!❤
It irritates me some people think that we use it as an excuse when we do wrong. It is illness not an excuse

Myth 3 only boys have ADHD😅, there are so many beautiful woman who are feeling left out. Thanks for acknowledging this❤
@@douwelangermans1606 everyone needs to know!
“ADHD is only for kids.” I know so many people who were diagnosed as adults!
