    I hope you watched the whole video, because there is a round where I go full force. Nevertheless going full force with every punch is like going 'all in' with a poker hand. It has potential to pay off big or take you out of the game.

    very crisp punching and great technique. There are a lot of videos on YT for hitting the heavy bag but the people hitting it were either holding back or probably just doing cardio boxing. You actually train like a fighter. Subscribed.

    yes, once they heal take a towel and fold it up on the floor. Close your fist and balance on one fist sideways as if you are an airplane perpendicular to the ground. Keep your arm straight and hold for a minute. Do both sides. After a few months your wrists should be stronger.

    These videos you make are very informative. Too many people work the bag for an aerobic exercise, and miss out on training themselves for battle. I have fought many fights in my life. So I watch with a load of experience. You are an outstanding teacher, and thank you for your videos. You are helping people because your tips are easy to understand and more importantly you explain the why of your tactics. Good work

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your arm has to have some bend in it when hitting the bag otherwise you have nothing more to penetrate the target. Once you connect if the bag was to suddenly disappear you should be able to move you fist forward about another 2-6 inches. It all depends on whether its just a jab to tag the guy or a power shot that's meant to take him out

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    This is not true. Oscar De La Hoya was a great boxer and never had a single streetfight. I remember seeing him talk about avoiding all street confrontations and saying, "I don't fight for free." during his countdown with Mayorga. There are many non-thug successful boxers.

    You can train on the bag 6 days a week but I wouldn't recommend going all out everyday. I wouldn't recommend 10 rounds a day either. Build up your rounds slowly and build up your days per week. It all depends on where you are right now.

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can circle around both ways. During a fight, you'll see that it's more natural to circle to your left, but many coaches say you should never circle towards your opponent's strong hand (his right) and so there's conflicting advice. For training purposes, I'd say it's a good idea to go both ways. A standard round is 3 minutes.

  • @PrecisionBoxing
    @PrecisionBoxing 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    that's up to you and something you should try to figure out. Work rate is very important and its what separates the good boxers from the elite boxers. If you are busy you can reasonably sustain a 200 punch round. If you are in amazing condition you can hit upwards of a 300 punch round. But this is with head movement and footwork, not just standing there and throwing punches. Film yourself for a few busy rounds and count your punches. Aim to increase that over time. 3 minute rounds

    Round 1: warm up jab...angles, setting up shots
    Round 2: opposite stance
    Round 3: head movement...slipping, ducking
    Rounds 4,5,6: fight pace...lots of combos, angles, active footwork
    Round 7: selective punching...slick, cagey, cautious
    Round 8: volume...let mind go free and hands go
    Round 9: power shots...bad intentions on these shots, bend the knees and dig
    Round 10: work the inside..get close to the back and work all angles
    thank you for the video as always :)

    I was taught to hit it within the last 3 inches of your full arm extension. Your focus should be moreso on your body rotation than your arm extension.

    would this be a more cardio based workout?

      As opposed to resistance training? Definitely.

    thanks man. Some people said sore wrists is normal and will always happen. but then others say just punch lighter and use the middle knuckle (when gloves) as a focal point.

    Nice to see someone who actually knows how to and when to hit the heavy bag.....good stuff. :)

    I was always taught that the bag should move very little, if at all, if it's struck correctly. I mean you look like you know your shit, but that's how I was trained.

      I know, and I did say he looks well versed in what he's doing. I'm just stating my experience as being trained by someone who has been boxing and kickboxing for nearly 20 years.

      everyone has their own opinions on things, i think bag movement is key for training distancing though.

      Very good man, it's all about pacing man just pick some one you know that can't box well or some one green, try to spar with him you will find your self not getting tired at all. Good luck and do more cardio workouts !
