This is an amazing review man! I’ve been using a Rode Micro mainly for vlogging and it’s really good. Makes me wanna try using it for guitar playing as well..😊👍
Beautiful playing and really good point!
I actually really like the sound of the Rode on the guitar! On voice it sounds a bit cheap when you put it back to back with the AKG, but let's be resonable, at that price I think it does a fantastic job.
The micro looks a good start mic...great vid...
I'm sold! Getting the Rode VideoMicro (in my cart!)! Thanks for your awesome review! And I'm a new subscriber! Cheers!
Glad I could help, enjoy 😉👍🏻
Tanks for the review!! Sounds nice with the guitar and voice
Wow. That was pretty close in sound.
Oh... if all TH-camrs could produce content of this quality. Just a pleasure to see and hear. Folks this content deserves a good external DAC on your end as well. Most of my devices are from a California fruit company, and they aren't cheap, but the DACs leave a lot to be desired.
Man you’re amazing keep it up. Best mic review in my opinion.
Many thanks, more to come 👍🏻
Excellent test. Ordered the rode! Thank you mate
Halfway into the video and I'm sold on the Rode!
Thanks Harv, I recently bought the Rode ME-L for my iPhone for my TH-cam channel about automotive diagnostic, it's great having in-camera sync audio which sounds brilliant. U can then just edit on phone and upload to TH-cam, Sorted! Cheers sandy
Great and very helpful review - thank you! I also enjoyed the guitar playing
Thanks again for posting.
Wow, not only can you play the guitar but you helped me in narrowing down my decision in which mic to consider for my smartphone videography
So can I use the rode video micro with my iPhone for making TH-cam videos?
@@positivevibes2871you will need an adapter
Very helpful! Thanks very much!! Just started my channel and needed a decent way to pick up audio from my performances. I will definitely be picking one of these up. Thanks again!!❤❤❤
What a great guy and great content
Great educational info on Røde. Thank you so much!
Great video! we have the videomicro always in the backpack just in case we need some mic, because it's sooo small
rode mic sounds fantastic, akg is obviously really good but for the price difference I think I will just buy the rode for myself, thanks for the video
I'm doing some research, and looking to start making some videos ... I think the Rode Videomicro is just the ticket to get decent audio to start out, for a small cost and fairly simply.
Thanks for the video, and nice playing.... gonna check out the rest of your channel now.
I’m sure you’ll like it, amazing value bit of kit!
Great Review man!!
The Rode and C414 microphones with and without processing sound the same to me, Harv. I'm listening through the Seth model of the Skullcandy earbuds. I'm also listening through TH-cam's compression. If I were sitting in your studio there might be a noticeable difference.
Very noticeable for me when listening trough sennheiser hd58x's. Scullcandy isnt known for their audio
@@bigturn1051 Thank you, Big Turn.
You would hear more low-mid detail with the C414 using neutral studio headphones or monitors. But, then again most of this is removed with a high-pass EQ with most video and audio applications that use presets. The C414 would destroy the Rode in vocals and acoustics if the comparison was done per source and with proper microphone placement.
@@captureinsidethesound Thank you.
Great video! Thank you!
Big thank’s for the instruments comparison, you convinced me in buying the rode 🤘🏼 keep on rockin baby
Really valuable. Thanks man 🙏🏻
I'm eating a blueberry muffin. Nice review, thanks!
Blueberry? Good choice 🤤
😆😆😆
Great video. It sounded like the guitar was.coming straight out of a mixer
Nice, thanks for the comparison. Very helpful to have those kind of reviews before buying one.
@2:52 Where's the link to previous eq and compression vids?
Well spotted, now linked :)
I have the c414. It’s a fire mic. I need a mic that I can vlog with and use for studio session recordings.
Really impressed with your rewiew!
I just bought the VideoMicro (Previously had a VideoMic Go) for bringing with me for adventure-filming and I am really happy that it seems to be so much better that I thought!
Super nice works great
Hi great video. I’m just getting into sound recording. What software are you using. Maybe your normal editing process video will be a great idea
Hello! How far is the videomicro from you when you are playing guitar?
Very helpful man, thank you! I'm definitely sold on the Rode micro
Do we need to use an amplifier for the Rode Micro or do we just connect directly to the camera?
Maxime Caron Thanks!
That video micro is must be way under priced. Sounds damn great.
I am getting one for a run and gunner. Awesome.
I'm actually a bit surprised the AKG sounds as good as it does being nearly two feet away. For this case use, one could never justify the pricier mic IMO. The AKG however is a great studio mic which I used to use on the radio. Great video!
Great guitar playing 👊👍
What is the song you're playing on the guitar? Very soothing
Just a little noodle I wrote, it doesn’t have lyrics or anything 😏
Seether - Broken
Ha ha nope, I don’t know seether. Worth a listen?
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff But sounds very close
Thank you, helpful it is! 🙌🏻
Great review
Many thanks 🙏🏻
Good video! Maybe make a video about how to get the most out the mic as well. Amp, no amp? eq? etc :) It was clearly better when you added compressing and eq :)
Hello, can you answer me, does this mic provided good bass recording, like when you record music with bass would it provide good bass output that it recorded also?
Hi, definitely not! Personally I’d go for a large diaphragm condenser mic for capturing bass frequencies 👍🏻
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff Yes, but I'm also recording weddings outside (and that's why I need small diaphragm mic, with better range). I record sounds like drums, and they have bass sounds, so I need a mic for outdoor weddings recording with very loud drums sound and very loud music sounds, my focus isn't on audio quality, but rather on video, so my built in camera mic fails to catch that deep voice of drums, as soon as it sounds 50% better with video micro I'm fine with buying it, sorry for long question.
Hey! I am wondering how do you enhance the volume and get rid of background noise. I am asking because I have just tried the mic and it sounds worse and a lot quieter than in this video, I suppose it might be because I am not using the right software to process it. I hope you direct me to the right software or app which does that. Thank you!
Thanks to share this very interesting video. I have never used a microphone for my Lumix GH5, also because it has a good mic. incorporated. Please let me understand, this is not a criticism. If you are vloging, to shoot only a few minutes where the microphone is actually useful in a working day, but unfortunately you have to leave it on the camera all the time causing you only some annoyance. My question: how useful do you see it to those who do not do any interviews, etc. etc.? Thanks for your thought.
Thanks for the video. I just bought a Rode Videomicro and have huge amounts of hiss every time I record, either on a DSLR or with a VLXR+ adapter on great pre amps. Did you have any noise issues?
Thanks, no noise issues to report although I’ve only used it plugged directly in camera 👍🏻
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff thank you. I’m might message Rode. Maybe an issue with mine.
Fantastic review! I think the micro sounded really good. Is it safe to assume the Rode used the camera's onboard pre and the 414 used the Preamp in your I/O (or dedicated) Again, great review.
wow amazing
hi, did you have a noise background on your raw recording using rode ? thank you
What audio level need to set in sony a7iii with rode video micro to get clear audio....and what is ideal distance to keep the mic from subject?
Hi bro, if i sing and play guitar in front of this rode mic will it work good? i want to make reels for insta. Thank you
Hi, you definitely could but room acoustics will be quite important as you’ll need to be a reasonable distance from the camera 👍🏻
Hello, I would appreciate if you could let me know whether something like the Videomicro will be good for interviews with small groups in crowded places (like a bar full of people talking) or should I use some mic closer to them on the tripod? I would appreciate the simplicity of it but if it makes no sense, do I need to look at something external like zoom H1N or olympus LS-P1 (that could in case be also added to hotshoe)?
I'm in love.
Link for the rode mic you used in that video?
Hmm it should be in my kit, linked in description 👍🏻
Nice Video
the videomicro sounds better to me lol. the c414 just picks up too much high freq. I almost prefer the muddier sound of the videomicro. listen to the strumming at 4:13
I need a help... I have rode videomicro but i wanna use my guitar pedal as an audio interface (I'm using zoom G3X digital multi effect for guitar). But when i connect my microphone to my guitar pedal, I can't hear nothing. What should I do? Thank you..
NO microphone is designed to plug into the G3 because it doesn't have the proper input stage for a microphone, its a guitar processor.
That's cool
oh man i was contemplating but now you got me sold
Same here! Thanks a lot Harv Video/Audio Stuff!!
0:56😂😂
when you are playing guitar, these microphone almost hear like both as same as.
nice way to promote Rode Videomicro. Completely different price range. What can you say
I hope you’re not suggesting there was some kind of arrangement with røde (I’ve got no affiliation with them)? Yes a completely different price range but the video title was very explicit about this so I’m not sure what you were expecting 😂
If you got an Iphone 12 dont bother to get the Videomicro there isnt much difference go for a better mic if you need an upgrade
Yeah, no "upgrade" is going to fix the difference because cell phones do not have phantom power. The Rode requires at least 3V. Otherwise, it sounds dull or simply doesn't work at all.
414xls is a crap
Might be good to learn the difference between fact and subjectivity
@@HarvVideoAudioStuff Yes, you have time, do it.
You want me to teach you what an opinion is?
nice quality
appreciate it
