    This is amazing, how on earth did he figure it out?! Things to note in NEWER VERSIONS:
    To thicken the hairs - its under render --> curves (not hair) --> strip.
    Mix rgb is just mix and change float to color.
    Hair node is curve tangent, like someone mentioned below.
    Turn world strength way down (mine is .5)
    In particle edit, make sure children is checked and steps are 5, under "tool" tab.
    Try different light strengths. Pay close attention to what he does, the light is really what makes work.
    Looks like it works up to 3.6.0. I swear it wasn't last night but now it is 😢
    Whatever version, you use, make sure you can find "shader to rgb" and "specular bsdf" before you start.

    If anyone cant find the mix rgb node, just add the "mix" Node and then change the setting from float to colour which will then turn the mix node into the mix rgb node

      but what about the shader to rgb node? It doesn't exist in 3.6 :(

  • @Macaxdd
    @Macaxdd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +166

    In case anyone else was having "weird" behavior with shadows: remember your WORLD COLOR and STRENGTH contribute to illuminating Diffuse BSDF.
    I had to tweak the world shader with a Light Path node by mixing a 0 strength background in using "IsDiffuseRay" as factor.
    That's because my 50% gray strength 1 world was lighting the hair, thus not giving the shadows in the video.
    Top tier tutorial as always LBS! I am astounded I'm learning so much for free and looking forward to part 2!

      Sorry for bothering you, but could you post your world setup?
      I can't mimick his style at all no matter how hard I try. Something is really off with the world lighting.

    • @nyquilthegreat
      @nyquilthegreat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I started with default cube on a new file, and a spotlight turns the hair black where it points at, is this due to my world color as you're describing, or something I missed on a node down in the video?

      @delta_yd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can't understand what you said :(

    • @Macaxdd
      @Macaxdd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nyquilthegreat That's probably something that has to do with either an invert node or some color ramp / map range being set weird, cause what you're describing is "inverted shadow/light behavior"

    • @DonaldDrennan
      @DonaldDrennan ปีที่แล้ว

      I just added a sky background in World Shading. I made a dark blue to light blue gradient. It's very important, but is not mentioned in the tutorial at all. Lighting is very important too.

I've only seen sculpts, texturing, etc. This was was very inspiring, exciting and educational to convert me to using Blender. You literally got the base look of the Arcane style hair in less than 10 minutes before all the detail control. Thank you for so generously sharing your knowledge and techniques. I will be turning on notifications on your channel. Your Kickstarter game looks amazing too. Will have to support it on Kickstarter.

    Great tut! Arcane is the catalyst driving me back into animating. I fell in love with the art style and the way Fortiche combined 2D & 3D to create a beautiful and unique look. At least to me it is unique. I haven't watched a ton of anime or other animations.
    I've been away from animation and blender for about a year. When I opened blender I realized that I have forgotten everything. I was back to figuring out how to move my view around with the middle mouse button! I'll probably need to run through the donut tut again just to relearn menus and hotkeys 🤨
    I used to work more with realistic styles, especially when it comes to hair, but like I said Arcane's style is so inspirational. Now I want to learn more stylized techniques. Your 2 videos about Arcane are great! I wish you would have been able to make more videos specific to Arcane, but I appreciate the videos you were able to make. Cheers!

    The way you explain things very simply even for a beginner like me in your tutorials, through observing and understanding what you see to s very abstracted level then building up from there, shows how much you understand and know what you're doing beyond Blender.
