The caramel is so good! I always sneak a little piece while I make the rest of the recipe. Good idea with the brown sugar video - I’ll add the link to the description! Adding candy canes when serving is a good idea too - we do that a lot to turn plain hot chocolate into peppermint.
Oh I can't wait to try the salted caramel one. I think if I made the peppermint I would use my homemade vanilla sugar instead of brown sugar. I have never attempted homemade hot cocoa, now I will have too
Lady, I am the queen of complicating any project! For little Christmas gifts, I purchased individual packets of different hot cocoa mixes (they have terrible ingredients). So, I found your video. And went through all of the trouble before going to work to make the caramelized sugar with the 3 Tbs of vanilla without realizing that I'd actually burned it, too! 😭 I'm out of time, so I think I'm pretty safe making the peppermint hot cocoa. 😄Thanks for the super fun and informative video! 🎄💖
It’s so frustrating to work hard on something and have it burn! The peppermint is definitely the easier of the two recipes, and both are delicious! Thank you for watching!
Great video, best one I’ve seen so far. Will be making this today to give out for Christmas presents and keep some for myself. Also, a new subscriber. Have a Merry Christmas.
New sub here from small TH-camrs homestead group 🤗 Thank you for sharing this-perfect timing as I’m setting up my hot cocoa bar and I can’t wait to make this caramel hot cocoa mix! It will be a great addition to the hot cocoa bar!
This looks yummy! Especially for the family holiday celebrations. I’m never really that precise on any of my measurements with any of my recipes. It always works out fine. Thanks for sharing. Good tip on the peppermint second. -Cady
Thank you! Hot cocoa is so comforting after time spent outside in the cold! I agree, I’m rarely precise when I cook - there is room to play around with ingredients!
Stiring the sugar can cause it to cease up, it wents to crystallize when agitated at the wrong point. However it should work fine for what you are doing. As the hard Carmel is going to be powered. So it would lose the gritty texture results you could end up with if you were making carmel sauce or candy.
Thank you for the info! I haven’t studied candy making at all, so I definitely don’t know the science behind it - it’s interesting how something simple like stirring can make such a big difference!
@@HomesteadOnAPrayer I am going to try this. How To Melt Sugar In The Microwave By Khalila Zalema July 25, 2022 When it comes to melting sugar, the microwave is definitely the way to go. Not only is it faster than melting sugar on the stovetop, but it’s also much easier. Simply place your sugar in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it on high for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the sugar is completely melted. Just be careful not to overdo it, as sugar can easily scorch in the microwave. Place sugar in a microwave-safe bowl Heat sugar in the microwave on high power for 30 seconds Stir sugar, then heat for an additional 30 seconds Stir sugar again, then heat for an additional 30 seconds Sugar should be completely melted If not, heat for an additional 30 seconds and stir
This works for about 1/2 c of sugar in the 30 seconds off and on. For your recipe I put the 2.5 c sugar for 3 minutes, stir 3 minutes, stir then a minute or 30 seconds until melted and it came out beautifully. Thanks for the recipe.
I LOVE THIS AS A GIFT IDEA! So many people are opting for hommade gifts. This is AMAZING.
Thank you! Homemade gifts can be so much more thoughtful and personal!
This is fascinating!! I've never seen Caramel like this and grinding it to a powder for this is brilliant!
You should link your brown sugar video in the description!
You could just garnish with candy cane when serving if people need more peppermint too!

Ooh that is such a good idea - I have vanilla sugar, and I definitely would have used that in the peppermint hot cocoa if I’d thought of it!

Thank you for including the burnt caramel! It is helpful to see what can go wrong and what it looks like. I am going to try both of these recipes.
I considered editing that part, but decided to leave it in case it was helpful. I’m glad I chose to leave it in! I hope you love both of the recipes!
Nice 👍
Thank you for watching!
Great video! Great ideas! New subscriber now btw!
Thank you!
Jennifer, what a great recipe! Thank you for sharing!!! The salted caramel sounds soo good--I’ve never tried or heard of it!
Thank you! It’s a bit of work to make, but definitely worth it!

Can you melt the sugar in the microwave?
I’ve never tried that so I’m not sure if it would work or not. If you do try it, let me know!
